Blood is made up of organic material (by organic I mean natural, not man made), and one would assume there are bacteria and microbes in the area that break down that type of stuff. Unless the people who had to survive there were OCD and cleaned up every inch of the place.

@SSoHPKC actually to answer your question regarding the blood glowing - while I'm not sure about blood stains over thousands of years old, I can personally guarantee it is some of the toughest stains you'll ever see. it's all due to a type of extremely durable, long-lasting protein content mixed in our blood that does not decompose even when exposed to coldness, sunlight and chemical bleaches over long periods of time. truly a fascinating biological material.

It can only change into something else.
