I just had the copper IUD inserted 3 days ago. I took no pain relievers at all. The discomfort of the insertion process was bearable although very unpleasant. It was over in 5 minutes at most and was made smoother by the presence of a nurse who soothingly talked me through breathing while the medical technician did the insertion.
I still feel some very slight cramping (barely really) and I assume this is my uterus grudgingly accepting this foreign object in its midst.

It's been over a year now and I am LOVING my IUD! My periods are still unpredictable and, while very light, seem to go on for a few days too long each time. Otherwise, I have no complaints! It's such an unbelievable relief to have no worries regarding birth control - the only time I really stop and think about my Paragard is when I'm praising it to my friends!
Oh my goodness thank you for posting this video! I'm getting mine today and I was having second thoughts becuase everyone was complaining about they pain, but I'm still a little nervous because I'm a virgin and yeah but thank you!
@holylollipopgoodness --- I'm not sure that there is a way to proceed with insertion of the IUD (the process of which involves a speculum) that still preserves your hymen. I hope you discussed that with your doctor prior to insertion.
I was nervous as HELL I thought I was gonna have a panic attack. On a scale from 1 to 5 I cant even go to 10 I would give it a 3 it was mostly an uncomfortable feeling

How is the Paragard working for you? I've had mine for over a year and I love it! The insertion was awful for me but I was feeling perfectly fine within 24 hrs. :) I don't think there is enough awareness out there about the IUD, it's a great BC option!
Did they use a tenaculum to clamp your cervix to pull it up? Did the tenaculum (pointed forceps) hurt when they inserted the spikes into your cervix opening? I'm shocked they use tenaculums to clamp the insides of the vagina, as I've seen that they cause injury and can hurt very much. They first clamp the opening to the cervix to gain control of the opening when they sound you- and you said it hurt then. Is that due to the sharp forceps or the sounding instrument?
