Nuts. Peanuts, almonds, but they especially liked walnuts (with shell).

Wow, love it. BUT...in my town, neighbors will set the *Fish and game* police on you if you trap the squirrels. We moved into our home here in a small town 5 years ago..we didn't know that squirrels had found a way into the attic and were chewing our electric wire, and my family was in peril. We started to use *kind* traps, and release them in the wild. Neighbor called, and the cop showed up and told us it was ILLEGAL. Score...Squirrels:100, Family:0 Outrageous.

I was bored at home and had some free time on a weekend. If the squirrel gets comfortable, it'll fall into your trap. Just put a few more nuts around your trap. If your trap is only 1 ft deep though, the squirrel will be able to jump out.

how did u keep the door shut??? couldnt the squirrel just run into the door and escape?

There is a locking mechanism on the door. Once it shuts, you have to manually open the lock and lift the gate for the squirrel to get out.
