i have just strted to play around with this system. as for the lag you have mentioned. this is most likely due to the avi format that the film is created in. avi tends to be a large file, so it would have to be mixed down into a wmv, real, dvix or so to eliminate the general lag associated with a raw avi file.
there should be no reason why you should not be able to. look into the program file under model and import your 3Ds file into it and you should be able to load the model as long as it's 3Dsmax.
as for making the modal? if you don't have 3DSmax, good old wings3D works just as good, and it's free and easy to use.

the reason could be, that you don't have enough memory for it to work on your computer.
