  • An Excellent Show,I was there. The Special Guest was Donovan....I have a Program from that Show.

  • Does anyone know the chords that Jon's playing?

  • Come mai non ci sono immagini del tour del 1980 del "drama tour"visto che ci sono queste del '77,e addirittura ce ne sono altre addirittura di qualche anno prima?

  • I'd do anything to have this on DVD...even in this quality!!!

  • The concert where i thought... I want to play music like that.... fate took it from there :) Thanks for posting , amazing memories and with this much time having passed amazing to think about all that has transpired... Yes Forever !!!

    Chers, Billy

  • Many thanks I was there and have the audio tape, how did you get video this is incredible, the Holy Grail Thanks

  • Jon in his half-homeland of Scotland... his dad was from Paisley, he's a member of the Clan Anderson... though I never saw him wearing a sky blue tartan! 'T would be nice! :-)

  • it is sick and sad how it is hard to find 77,78,79 quality videos of yes as we can find 71,7273,74 videos with high quality of them....sad,because the gfto and even the tormato tour, with that awesome stage, were so awesome

  • I don't think I've seen a video of them sounding this awesome live

  • Killer opening slide guitar riff by Howe and the tune just never lets up, a total rush from beginning to end. One of my favorites.

  • @drmilo08260, I saw the same tour, only I caught the show in New Haven,Ct. I just happened to be hitching through Ct. and heard about it, so being the big Yes head I was and still am, I simply had to go. Donovan put on a better rock show than I thought he would, since he had Stone The Crows backing him up for the tour. I still have the program from that show, I run across it once in a while in my filing cabinet and like to dig it out and relive those days. $6.50 sounds about right for admission.

  • I've seen Yes several times, including the reunion tour with all players and in the round in '79, but what caught my I was Donovan...saw him at the "Scaragon" in Chicago in the early 80's, got my car stereo ripped off, and used the huge insurance settlement to buy one of the first (and still most awesome) car cd systems.

  • In case people don't know, Yes is doing a tour of North America this Spring...I'm seeing them in Washington D.C. on April 4th....I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!

  • I listen to this going to work. Puts me in a good mood. Btw, what is it that Chris Squire is singing in the background during the main part of the song at the beginning? Its not on the record.

  • @SiberianMan2u opeeeeen windows!

  • @SiberianMan2u It is "Open windows", all the time... apart from backing Jon's lyrics just prior and into the refrain...

  • I was at this gig, my first Yes concert and oneof the best

  • I saw this tour in Jackson, Mississippi. First concert I ever attended. My ticket was $6.25. The show featured lazer lights, which at the time seemed cool, but in retrospect were not much more impressive than someone playing with a couple of lazer pointers. Still one of the top 5 shows I ever attended.

  • There is just no music like this out today. I mean think about the prog rock line-ups from 1972-1978: Genesis Yes Rush Pink Floyd Jethro Tull Emerson, Lake and Palmer ELO King Crimson Traffic
  • I'm obsessed with this song lately, it gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it!

I love the way Anderson harmonizes the chorus, it ends up sounding better than studio version although he does that not to strain his voice :P

  • @Gabrifox right, at 3:00 you can hear Jon tries the usual melody but cracks, then looks at Chris like saying "oops" :) Maybe suggesting Chris to take the lead...that anyway didn't happen - stage thrills - great footage.

  • I was there!

  • Before Robert Randolph( excellent guitarist) There was Steve The Maestro Howe!~

  • @0ff1cejetg85 --it already has been taken down:(

  • first album i ever bought and after a few thousand later, still one of my favorites

  • @mustangjohhny Right! Alomst teh same with me… second album bought, and still gives chills downs my spine… (I'm 45!)

  • Freakin' great.

  • YES so far away the most important band of all times YES RULES ¡¡¡ and JON ANDERSON a diamond ¡¡¡¡¡

    Regards,

    Arthur

  • @bigua1428 AMEN AMEN AMEN BROTHER!!!!!!

  • @bigua1428 I agree 100%!!! Yes is the greatest of all time!

  • @JimSVoit Have you ever checked out Gentle Giant? Very similar to Yes, same period, as good or better, and definately the best band that nobody's heard of. Start with their song Freehand and go from there: they're amazing (as is Yes).

  • @thesomario Yes, I have. They are excellent. Definitely one of my favorites! :)

  • I became a Yes fan in 1975 at the age of 13. I was 15 when they did this tour. I could have seen them but chickened out because I felt I wasn't mature enough. It was stupid of me to think that at the time. I did, however, get to see them in the round in 1979. I saw them again this past February for about the twelth time. They've still got it.

  • I bunked off school to go and see the in the Wembley Arena, London. Excellent ig and lovely lasers in Close to the edge and Awaken.

  • hollot better than the albumn "Going for the One". Jon's energy is great!

  • @fucheduck this is not the "cam" angle in the "yes retrospective" footage.

  • @fucheduck I can't agree...as a college freshman in '79. this song was my "fire up" song before an exam or a tennis match...it had all the energy I needed. Great version, but the studio version rules too.

  • this band was on fire!

  • I saw this tour in Madison Square Garden. Donovan got BOOED OFF THE STAGE! Steve's pedal steel playing was just out of this galaxy!

  • saw this tour Elpaso Texas for 6 dollars fifty cents general admission my brother and myself were first in line and went right to the stage ,jon and and allen were checking the stage before the show ,Donavan opened the show

  • @drmilo08260

$6.50....man that is like seeing the Beatles at Shea for $5. Today that ticket would start at $60

  • @drmilo08260 Nice!!!!!!!!Saw them in 1972 @ Winterland opened for Black Sabbath

  • @drmilo08260 And I thought I had seen great show.... Wow! To see YES during this period would have been like seeing God... well almost (lol)

  • I can't believe I'm watching thissssssssssssss....Steve Howe is the master of EVOLUTION

  • If time travel were possible this would be the Yes tour I would re-visit. On the GFTO tour they (and everyone else) were glad Rick was back, and with the release of the GFTO record, their canon of classics was complete. This show was like three hours long, and you didn't have a clue which classic they would do next. ...a tremendously exciting concert. Tho the tours before were amazing, (I saw Close To The Edge, Yessongs, and Relayer) This show was all about "Hang on to your hats!!!"

  • love these guys. my buddy was their chief sound engineer back in the day. he's got some great stories.

  • Can you please tell me who's on the drums?

  • If Wikipedia is correct, it's Alan White.

  • I was at this one! They did 3 nights and if the date of the 8th is right then I was there! How weird 32 years on and discovering this? I mind Rick attempting some piano piece with his toes late on! I was only 15 and before it I thought he might actually do it! 3 notes he did but what the hell he was just immense that night! A quality night and what a band! Saw them again in 91 at the NEC in the round and no let down! If you are out there Stuart get a look at this! Just quality!

  • ROMAC: Hi :) wouldn't you know it.. I saw the tour the year jon was not singing.. he he

    great comment

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS

    jd

  • Love the Remastered & Exspanded version of Going For The One they released. Well worth the money and sound production.

  • GFTO means 'Going For The One' I was 13 years old when I attended this concert. Amazing stuff. Been to just about every tour in Scotland since. Chris Squire doing Amazing Grace on his Bass. Cool Cool.

  • Wow, only 1,722 views for this? Not the best sound quality but still awesome to watch. I wish I were older than 8 in 1977 so maybe I could have seen them play live on this tour.

  • it was my first experience of a big concert wembley, I think - was 15 and my big brother took me - I'll never forget it

  • what does GFTO mean btw> Did Anderson "strum" all the way through this set? Would it have made any difference to the sound if he did not? Great post

  • he didn't play guitar at wembley but it does give him something to hold on to when he goes for those TOP NOTES !

  • Best holding his gonads I guess. On that tour GFTO means get the fcuk out of scotland (yes I know it does not work)

  • Saw this in Cincy.

  • One of Yes' greatest tours!
