Its not a T 10 star tip. Its a T15. Use a T10 if you want to strip the screw and never get it open.

My PSU was black plastic, not that shiny tin shit. lol.

I opened the sucker up to clean out the dust. Too many screws and shit to get to the heat sinks, but the PS3 is running much quieter not.

Just be careful with the DRIVE DRIVE SIGNAL CABLE. It's the one with the little blue tape at the end. The connection isn't very strong and I actually broke the clip on mine, thinking I had to put more pressure on it. It pretty much just sits there, then you clip it in. Use scotch take if you break it.

Well made video.

You said the first screw that needs to be removed is a star type, size #10, also known as a Torx screw. Other videos I saw didn't specify the screw type - I'm glad you did.

I tried to get the dust bunnies out of the vents using a floor vacuum with a narrow-hosed tip. I couldn't get it all, even with the powerful suction. Not until I got the cover off was I able to get inside and vacuum the rest. Even partly clogged vents will cause my PS3 fan to run high speed non-stop!

@prettyinpunk - lift the rear side up a few centimetres and slide toward the front. Should pop straight off. The dude in the video had problems removing his, hence the bad editing and the un-seamless falling off in his hand. :)

Thank you so much. I needed help disassembling my 1st-gen backwards compatible PS3. I was told through a tip from the PS3 boards that switching out the power supply for a lower wattage one from the later models would extend the life of the PS3 and needed help opening one up. I was getting annoyed by the increased fan noise (presumably from an overheating PS3) and wanted to see if doing this would to the trick. Thank you!

I have taken out my blu ray disc drive and power supply and taken out all screws that are in sight but i still cant get the motherboard to come out so i cant see whats wrong with whats below.

My PS3 starts up alright and disc drive works well but after a bit it goes off from green to yellow to red and when it gets to red its starts flashing so i suspect its something wrong with the fan because the longer i leave it off the longer it will stay on when i turn it back on.
