@7saltesild That's the late great Nicky Hopkins on piano. He was brilliant and played with just about everyone. He was also with the great Jeff Beck Group featuring Rod Stewart and Ron Wood.
A neglected masterpiece. The Stones of this period('66'67,early'68)have been poorly served by the critics monotonous adherence to the belief that this was some kind of creative lost weekend. What the fuck do they know!!
An epic, one of their ten best-ever tracks. This song was always as powerful, magnetic and hypnotizing to me as "Gimme Shelter", I don't know why it was a relative flop upon release and not included on compilations, which makes it vastly overlooked today.
i used to think it was redundant and annoying.....now i appreciate the subtle changes in keys and little parts they throw in......i still tend to veer towars the dark cuts with the early stones, as opposed to the stabs at hits......like 'rainbow' and 'spend the night' are not up there with my favs -- while 'sittin on a fence' and 'please go home' are really strong song to my ears.
If you like the "dark cuts", I don't know why this wouldn't be included...it's one of the darkest cuts they ever recorded. It *is* repetitive, but so is most of the Stones' classic material! I do think the instrumental version brings out the detail in the track, though...there's a lot buried in there.
i've heard this song on the radio (i believe) alot in the 70s/80s....so i guess that disqualifies it as a dark cut.....but i may be wrong.....always got this mixed up with 'have u seen your mother' which is also repetitive....know another dark cut that's hard to find anywhere and really good? 'sad day'.....even better yet is 'some things just stick in their minds' (look it up on y tube).
Never been my fav, but I like this better than the finished track. On the other hand, Sticky Fingers was still three long years away. Sticky Fingers, as far as I'm concerned, is the last word in music! Any noise made by anyone since is superfluous!
Great video. Precious precious pics...

They became a really boring rock band after Brian left, a shame.

Having heard the original, I don't think I could tolerate listening to this version twice.
NEVER heard that many mistakes in one cut...

To be honest I prefer times after Ronnie Wood, he's brilliant and they are better pair of guitarist with THE Keef than with B.J and K.R,
but anywy, this is the rolling stones and we love them every time.

By "dark" cut I thought he meant dark in tone and atmosphere. Although as a hit it wasn't as big as the singles that preceded and followed it.
