@mdmjwarner unless you were in direct contact with this chimpanzee you aren't qualified to assume they were in error. additionally if you listen to the dailogue you will see that they are still testing the DNA and making observations. if it is it's own subspecies or species then the implications could be interesting but they haven't been able to verify it yet in this video.

I'm going to assume that Dr. Boysen is a primatologist working on behavior studies and not medical research and give her the benefit of the doubt here. Unless Kermit was taken from the wild in the last decade (by killing his mother) he is NOT a Bili/Bondo ape. DNA evidence on them so far has indicated that this is not a new species, just an isolated gene pool. Kermit shows signs of being hand raised and as with all captive great apes is NOT happy. Where did he come from and where did he die?

They don't truly require wide open space like some people might think. As long as they get all their necessities that a wild animal might need, they'll consider this their new home. Honestly, if you open the cage, most of them won't leave the zoo. They've become accustomed to their small luxurious room.

I can't assess the happiness of these animals since I don't understand their living arrangement, but if they're enriched, active, and have others to socialize with, then that certainly helps.
