  • hypothetically thinking is the front hip circle essentially a skill for young gymnasts to learn how to place their hands/grip for being able to re fold over the bar for when it comes time to learn kips, you could say just finish like your front hip circle... bam a kip :)

  • omg i watched this vid and the very next day i got my front hip circle. u. r. amazing. (:

  • Fantastic! My daughter along with 21 of her gym mates are coming to Hawaii for Gymfest in January 2012. They are competing at Level 5 in Hawaii so are currently learning the front hip circle for their bar routine. In Australia the FHC is not part of their compulsories so I'll be showing my daughter this tutorial as I think it gives a clear idea of each part of the process. She can do the FHC but I think your drills will make the end result look really good...Thanks for sharing! :)

  • right, you did, but let me ask it this way, what do you think makes the body/hip circle go around the bar? the upper body falling to initiate the momentum?

  • I don't teach my kids to pike, ever. The heel drive is what makes the hip circle. These drills are excellent. Just not the idea of the pike.

  • @bamagym I would love to see video of your kids doing straight FHC all around the bar.

  • @JAOVideos Does that mean you don't believe it's possible? Come to Florida and watch LaFluer's, Tampa Bay Turners, Orlando Metro, and lots more....where it's very competetive and sit and watch. We have to have straight arms or you won't go above a 9.00. But that's is totally cool. We all need to learn. It's not hard to teach. Staying hollow would be a better route instead of piking. So later on when they learn progressions for other skills, they won't pike. Thanks for hollerin.

  • @bamagym I didn't say "straight arms." I said "straight FHC." Show me a video where a girl stays straight all the way around the bar (flat hips, no pike) in a front hip circle the same way they can stay straight all the way around the bar for a back hip circle. The force of a cast helps generate momentum around the bar for a BHC, so you can push and be straight all the way around. No cast before a FHC, so you have to make some shape change to pick up speed, hence, piking.

  • @bamagym Well how are the kids going to cast out of the FHC if they don't keep their feet up, lean forward and make a pike?

  • yay!

  • thanks for uploading this! i watched this just yesterday and it inspired me to try to do one! and just today i got it! thanks for the helpful tips!

  • I noticed (even with all of her hard work) that the gymnast bends her arms (relaxes her elbows) when she rotates her grip. Any ideas how to correct that? Thanks :)

  • @firstjesse More time, more drilling, more time.

  • Thank you for the great drills!

  • Great job JAson !!

  • awesome, when my daughter has troubles with something I always end up finding a video w/ drills for that certain skill by you. She got her level 3 bar dismount this year from a suggestion of yours (via a msg) and now she is starting level 4 and needs her front hip circle. Thanks for all the great work!

  • great!

    I am learning this now.

This is hard without a spotter.

    Thank you.

  • great video! this is a much better way to teach them and makes them look a lot nicer. i need to apply these ideas to my own fhc's :P

  • really great.
