@sgtPhoenix53 Did you switch out the logic boards? When you replace your drive, you have to make sure you put the logic board from your old drive into the new or you will get play DVD errors and such. This should be your problem.
Hey, I just replaced my big brothers Xbox 360 disk reader that didn't read any Disk.
Still got the same problem. I did this before I watched this video just so you know.
what happens is.. *Old reader- place CD in. Just says Play game, no info or option to intsall to HD. I press A to launch the game. goes to black screen for 5 seconds then goes back to the Dashboard.
So I open it up.. place a new CD reader in. with new CD reader cables (Just to be sure) and try it again. Still the same problem..

to take out the disc drive is it any different from xbox 360 slim cause i got a slim and i took out all 4 phillip screws it wont open when i pull it apart because of the because the disc tray is in the way

@KILR4mercs You need to hav the exact disc drive and model number if it completly fried. Just open it up look at the model and maker of the drive then search it on Ebay and you will find it. Mine was only 30 USD. All of them cost about 30 USD.

I've just fixed this problem on my girlfriends xbox by unpluging all leads then very gently turning the consol upside down then end to end,put it back in place and putting the disc back in while the consol is loading, hope it works for you all too
@folkren12 try clearing ur system cache on ur console. go to my xbox then system setings then memory (select ur storage device if needs be) press Y and the select clearr system cache
Ok does anyone know why my Xbox says "can't read disk" while I play games that are fully downloaded off the marketplace. It also occurs randomly throughout C.D. games. I have tried many different C.D.s and many different downloaded games and the same thing happens. It randomly says "cant read disk". if you needed a screw driver to unsnap the front of xbox thens theres something wrong with you, and you dont need that (special tool) to remove the casing just a precision screwdriver thats all, lol in the time you took to remove the casing i would had the casing dvd drive xclamps ect ect allready taken out.
That's exactly how its done! but the sad part to my story is for two reasons. 1) My parents don't trust me to open mine (too bad for them i take most of it apart while their gone). 2) I can't find most of the goddamn tools because my stepdad is a mechanic and godforbid should i swim through the garage's tool "ocean" just to find the proper tool. dude, if your xbox wont read the disk all you have to do is open and close the disk tray a few times until it resets, this happend to me this morning and every thing on the internet told me to take my xbox apart, but i just opened and closed it about 10-15 times and the bad sounds stopped and the xbox made its normal sounds again

when i put a disk in mine you can see and here the laser adjust and then it will spin for a second or two and then stops and says open tray like nothing is in it...

if your lucky you can find a slot screwdriver that might sort of fit good enough to remove them but good luck with out the torx bit you really need it to do it right.
I got the Open Tray error like 15 times, first 10 times I fixed it within the first 10 mins the next 4 up to 2 hours and the last one it just didnt fucking fix..I opened it, the dvd drive's magnet hole was sealed, I lost my warranty and its still not fixed...

@JNR192 The disk would be launched upwards by the spinning part into your machine and most likely scratched to fuck like if you tilted it while it was reading a cd.

@kevinjsand yeah. hahaha. thanks for helping me. I love how with an xbox, when it doesnt read or something happens to it, do the thing that doesnt seem right and it will temporarily fix the problem. when it cant read discs, shove a peice of paper in the disc drive. when the disc tray doesnt open, punch the disc drive as ahrd as possible. hahahaha

dude, if your xbox wont read the disk all you have to do is open and close the disk tray a few times until it resets, this happend to me this morning and every thing on the internet told me to take my xbox apart, but i just opened and closed it about 10-15 times and the bad sounds stopped and the xbox made its normal sounds again

got that right ive been through two since 2008 i really wish the xbox 360 (console) was more like the ps3s but with the same exclusive games and great multiplayer! im only 14 so i need to stick with my xbox to actually enjoy my gaming self :(

when i put a disk in mine you can see and here the laser adjust and then it will spin for a second or two and then stops and says open tray like nothing is in it...

when i close mine you can here(and see when its apart) the laser jerk alittle kinda like setin itself and then it spins for about a second and then it stops and it says open tray like there is nothing in it?

According to Microsoft you can destroy your laser by using the DVD lens cleaner disks.
all that I am doing here is being more gentle with the laser than those disks are being.

My xbox takes in the disk and powers up and down so you have to put in the disk then smash the xbox with BRUTE FORCE >=] I rang up scamsoft and they wanted £98 to fix their problem?!?! Instead I am buying a new elite with forza, an the black entertainment pack

my xbox reads the disc but i go to load up a level or map and it sends me to the dashbord and sez disc unreadable i got a brand new halo 3 odst and tryd and it did the same thing. HELP!!!!

I have the same problem...as in I get the same screen with my xbox and i was wondering if the problem is always the disc drive? is it possible there is a mobo problem that is causing this?

Nope but it sounds like your magnet could be hung up or if its really quiet it could be your laser failing

i have the halo3 edition and the rubberband broke on tha disc tray so i removed it and put my disc tray from my other xbox in and now its reading all my games as dvd's...is that because what you showed us in this video is dirty? whats wrong with this thing?

if your lucky you can find a slot screwdriver that might sort of fit good enough to remove them but good luck with out the torx bit you really need it to do it right.

For
1. That tool sucks and is a Waste of money.
2. It is easier to remove Drive Power and Data Cables from Board.
3. Don't open your case if you have a warranty or have never done it.
4. The Drive magnet is only a problem when it will not let the disk drive come out.

I got the Open Tray error like 15 times, first 10 times I fixed it within the first 10 mins the next 4 up to 2 hours and the last one it just didnt fucking fix..I opened it, the dvd drive's magnet hole was sealed, I lost my warranty and its still not fixed...

@hahaha12345678901234 you have to remove the sticker off the top of the drive you can get to the mag from there.
