  • I. Love. BAND!!!

  • Ten seconds is not enough. Please post longer videos or don't bother.

  • i got an idea. dont watch it cause it says how long videos are before you actually watch it

  • @cdawg2010 : Yes, of course. But this one left me wanting more. Do you have a longer clip of this break? Such a tease! ;-D

  • oh i wish i did...sorry!

  • I've been working in music since '69. and have seen many marching bands, corps, stage bands, orchestras and played in quite a few. "The Best" is always arguable. It is all very difficult and takes major dedication and talent. ::thumbs up:: to anyone tough enough to be in ANY corps. :- D

  • most positive comment on any drum corps video. ever.

  • bd won this is 2007! cavies won this in 2006! pr is the best!

honestly, it doesnt really matter. woohoo for top 6 corps in general. everyone has a favorite. calm down please.

  • clean....but not very visual....

  • this is early in the season, they added alot of visual stuff later!

  • blah blah blah let it go.

  • ok Kids got two words:

    Bridgemen

    Blindfolds

NONE BETTER Talk Drum Corp know its history

  • It certainly pays to teach the same exact line every single year...

  • 2008 snares had 3 vets on that line! they have a huge turn over every year so that doesnt make sense!

  • True, I guess that explains their 5th place drumline this year. It was a similar score to BD's 5th place drumline last year, except even lower. All I remember were Phantom fans saying how BD sucked just because they got a 5th place drumline.

  • the fact that bd got 5th in 08 when their corps was at 2nd speaks to exactly how bad they were cause judging is relative to the overall score! phantom regiment 2009 getting 5th in drums while the corps was at 9th tells you just how awesome they were!!!!!!!!

  • Blue Devils got a better 5th place score last year than Phantom did this year. And Judges do not judge relative to score, because they don't even know the overall score until after the performance, plus there are several judges judging several things, so the percussion judge will not even bother with the rest of the corps. I win.

  • that's very naive, they have all season to know exactly who is gonna end up where, you can get the general standings after the first show! and the whole corps score does in fact affect every the drum score, every caption score affects the others, its simply logic and human nature, judges are human too. p.s. i know cause a judge has said that to a caption head i know!

  • Okay, I think the one way I can disprove your point is simply looking at LAST YEAR. BD was undefeated except in one show, and guess who won? NOT THEM. And you know damn well positions switch up between all corps all the time during the season. Don't try to pull this bs with me.

  • that's not true, BD lost to the cavaliers the last show before finals week in 2008, and phantom regiment was winning drums the whole summer! they squeaked passed cavies and BD by changing the drill at the end of their show and also having the head drum major killed by another drum major, sky rocketing their GE score.!

  • Yes, I already told you, they were undefeated besides one other show. And how about you mention how PR was in 4th overall throughout the summer too....

  • they added so much stuff into their show to get it better for the final push! if you saw their show, you know just how much better they were than BD and cavies! they had to be nearly perfect just so they wouldnt be denied!

  • more like it shows how good the rest of bd is

  • really people, there all good, afterall scores are based on the opinion of a handful of human beingsm however educated they may be. Can't people just enjoy the music...

  • Have you ever marched a Corps? You act like you haven't. Shut up and practice.

  • How so?

  • You called Regiment "Phantom." Dead giveaway.

  • ummm are you kidding, do you remember 06 finals, when PR line stomped the cadets, cavies, and BD line... they rofl pwnd them, PR line is on top, and its gonna stay that way for a long time, and so is the corps itself, theyve clawed their way to the top, and they are so not letting go of their title.

  • Phantom Regiment isn't known for their drumline. It's good, but not the best.

  • You statement is valid up to the year 2003. But ever since Paul Rennick arrived....they've been "known" for their drumline. 2 drum titles in 3 years is just a tad better than good.

  • Thank you! I would say that when I marched snare 1987-1989, we were know for our drumline.

  • Their 07 line was smoking

  • /facepalm

  • pr isn't known for their drumline? are you kidding? have you ever heard of marty hurley, john wooten and jeff prosperie? 3 of the biggest names in drumline-all time. good grief.

  • lol haha!!! oh wait, i thought you were kidding

    :O

  • BD used to be like that, but I'm just wondering, will you be so proud when they finally have a ten year void?

  • I got to see this show live, it was pretty good, i still love their 05 show a lot.

  • I liked the sound of their old Pearl drums better.

  • What did they switch to? DyNASTY?

  • Yep.

  • was this at ogden, utah?

  • no, this was in bloomington, Illinois

  • oh duh, we had a show there. thanks man.

  • Indiana**

  • Does anyone have a full run of this show? ive heard so much about it but i couldnt go to finals to see it

  • I've seen it will they where at practice at my High School.

  • That makes no sense.

  • they might have ment when instead of will lol that would make more sense...

  • yada yada yada blue devils and phantom regiment

we ALL know that blue coats and cavaliers had way sicker drumbreaks in 08.

so put that in yo pipe and smokin it

  • BD=1 drum title (with a line that wasn't evenimpressive) since 1997. WOW. Really impressive BD. You guys are definitely the best. Glad to see that consistent product being performed every year. Maybe next year you guys might finish top 3 in drums.

  • come on man why would you post this on a Phantom video?

I don't even care if you're right or not... do you just want to get into an argument?

  • naw dude he is just asserting bd's status because i think people are taking the bashing too far after their 08 loss.

  • bd's status?

Do you realize that Phantom has scored higher in percussion (what this video is featuring) than blue devils 3 of the past 4 years? So what status are you talking about? and I don't want to hear about BD's history because that has nothing to do with what's going on NOW and nothing to do with this video.

PR has had the greatest percusion section in the past few years. right NOW, they are king

  • He comments like that on every drum video. Its best just to ignore him.

  • The King has been seceded. Long live The Phantom Regiment !!

  • Ah yes thats why PR won & Cadets got 5th. Sooo Untouchable!!

  • Overall in years, PR can't even hold a candle to the amount of 1st place wins cadets have had in Percussion. PR is a great line.....Cadets have had way more wins in percussion though. That's just fact!

  • and i couldn't care less...

because that has nothing to do with how much better phantom has been recently

  • Why is there no full video of Phantom's Show!!

  • cause copyrighting's a bitch.... :(

  • BEST UNIFORMS EVER

  • these are the pre-awesome unis.

  • personally i think....blue devil's break was better this year ...and last year

  • you're pretty dumb.

  • I agree, he is.

  • I SEE YOU!

  • BD was dirty.

  • not to mention their breaks were just plain stupid.

lol @ a roll excercise being your break

  • ever wondered why they got 2nd place?

  • ? pretty sure they got 1st this year bro

  • That was supposed to be a reply to somebody... I don't remember

  • ah, haha.

  • phantom was more professional, bd's was more flashy. idk whos was better. all i knkow is that they were both awsome

  • ya i noticed that between the vangaurd and blue devil rivalry... the blue devil's breaks and even thier show in general is always more flashy. compared to the vangaurd show wich is always more classy and more complex

  • wtf...ya right

  • bad ass! :-)

  • I remember in the '06 season when some guys from Blue Devils were saying stuff about how Phantom played music that were like their(being blue devils) warmups and thats why they took percussion. And then you have this year and last year to show that Phantom CAN F****G SHRED!

  • The best thing about BD is ScoJo. As for the line, they peaked in 1990. Since that time, there is alot of high stick playing and hand waving.

As for Phantom as a corps, there are good years and bad years. As for the drum line, they've always been able to "shred", even when I march the snareline(87-89).

  • Wow you're not joking? That is very cool. What was it like to finish off with the overall favorite DCI show of all time.

  • "Plus, these 10 seconds of drum break had more technical stuff going on than BD's entire drum break."

When it comes right down to it, all that matters is Blue Devils 12 titles. Phantom Regiment 2 titles.

  • BD won most of those when Float was around in the 80s. He's not there now. They won like 3 or 4 in the 90s back when they were innovative with percussion. The WGI innovation they're trying right now just doesn't work.

  • No. You are only as good as your last show.

  • yeah i wish i had the whole thing but this was early and i didnt know how their show went yet...

  • ahh when are their shows coming on youtube!!!

  • Thats why their drums scored 5th.

  • haha i agree with squee....get owned douche

  • Plus, these 10 seconds of drum break had more technical stuff going on than BD's entire drum break.

  • and so clean for how early in the season this is

  • PR- 19.85/20

    Cavs- 19.55/20

    Blue Coats- 19.35/20

    Crown- 19.10/20

    BD- 19/20

    owns?

  • PR got a 19.85??

    no way. thats cool

  • PR Shredded this year

  • Did you start recording as soon as you realized it was the drum break?

  • I don't see the point of taking risk and being highly innovative if it is not clean. The PR drum line was better this year because they understood the fine line of innovation coupled with traditional playing. BD was on the right track with Tom Float when he introduced accelerated singles back in the 1980s, and being clean was NEVER compromised. The rules must have changed a lot since this isn't necessarily true these days.

  • you're kidding right? politics always goes against phantom cause they refuse to play anything but clasical music!! if it was anything, their show was just over all better than the devils and the devils have horrid drums this year and were super dirty! they earned this by being significantly over the top of the blue devils due to the classical stigma that haunts them. the perfect example was Faust in 2006!!!

  • Then how did Phantom win this year and take high percussion?

  • Seriously dude? Typical "Devs" fan.

    No class.

    PR IS class.

  • cant you guys just shut the fuck and appreciate good old fashion cleanliness?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA....I heard at least 10 ticks on finals night. Phantom was fucking Beautiful. Devs are good, dont get me wrong, but Phantom defintely owned in Drums. Also, I think Cavies should have gotten second overall. That show was executed alot better than Devs. Thats my say.

  • yea my ass

  • Too funny - barring the conspiracy theory about DCI judging - DEVs were only 5th in Percussion on Finals night. In fact, if they had played well enough to score as high as Crown (19.1 instead of 19.0) - they would have been Champions. So to suggest that DEVS are better in Percussion than PR isn't backed by the data. PR scored .85 higher. Significant in my book.

  • Do any of you PR snare cats remember being called out in the parking lot in at the July 4th parade in 2005 in Fremont California by an X SCV and BD center snare? I think he said you guyz were really good but if you wanted to beat BD you were gonna have to go to the next level. Your center snare answered with a polite 'click-click' with his tongue and you moved on. Well congrats!!! You did it not once but twice.

    The Snapettes Mom

  • I saw them in Panhandle in July.

Good lord it was a beautiful 3 hours of intense heat and sweat. They definitely deserved 1st this year. Even if Cavie's show idea was better.

  • the great drumline's feature since 2006

  • There's a 1982 PR "SPARTACUS" libretto on eBay.. all proceeds go to Phantom Regiment. Ends Sunday August 17.

  • i think i miss the bugles -sigh

  • do you think that a corp will go back to the g horns?

  • its the Bb horns. they dont give darker, fuller sound as the G buggles.

  • What are you on about? G bugles have a much "brighter" sound than Bb.

  • is it me or are the corps not playing as full and as loud as they use to like in the early 90's. just curious

  • I would say it's about the same, but Phantom 1991 was crazy loud.

  • Bugles had slightly larger bells and the "brightness" or "edginess" of the timbre helped give that full volume you're talking about.

  • Phantom Regiment well deserved win but overall still a big Blue Devils fan. Special congrats to Carolina Crown. Cavaliers still one of my favorites. And the Blue Devils arent overrated, theyre like every other corps, they try to win 1st in finals. They are no different

  • **** DCI World Championships - World Class Finals **** **** 09 August 2008 - Bloomington, IN **** 01. 98.125 - Phantom Regiment 02. 98.100 - Blue Devils 03. 97.325 - The Cavaliers 04. 96.800 - Carolina Crown 05. 94.750 - The Cadets 06. 93.175 - Bluecoats 07. 93.025 - Santa Clara Vanguard 08. 90.425 - Blue Stars 09. 88.250 - Blue Knights 10. 87.275 - Boston Crusaders 11. 87.200 - Glassmen 12. 85.225 - Madison Scouts
  • Btw, Phantom won the world championships, beating the Blue Devils and The Cavaliers. Thought you should all know :) yay

  • well deserved win

  • I cried when i heard that.. People in my band made fun of me for saying that phantom will win this year.. And look who won.. lol..

  • In my opinion, Cavies and Phantom should be above BD this year. BD left no inpression on my and i was much better impressed by Cavies Phantom AND Crown. Although they are good, they are overrated.

  • BD was VERY impressive visually this year.

  • i missed everything, i couldnt get to the theaters friday, is there any way to watch them?

  • I say this with no mean intent, but that's mostly what 99% of all DCI fans think every year... that ''the Cavies deserve this'' and ''oh BD shouldn't be winning over them'' and all that, but to be quite frank, I really don't see how it's fair that a corp can cheat the system in such a way as the Cavies and get away with it. All the Cavies do, each year, is compensate for their lack of musicality with over-the-top visual shows. The other top 4 corps' hornlines put the Cavies to shame.

  • So you think that BD is not overblown whats so ever and deserved top spot over Phantom this season?

  • No joke. BD wins every year. It gets a little old. lol

  • In 2003/2004 cavies won, in 05 cadets won, in 06 cavies won, then in 07 BD won, now phantom has their first title of their own! i forget anything past 03, but eh, after a while it's hard to remember who won what in which year.

  • Ummm.. Bd won 2003 bud. Just to letcha know. 'OO Cavies and Cadets, '01 Cavies, '02 Cavies, '03 BD, 04 Cavies, 05 Cadets, 06 Cavies, 07 BD, 08 Phantom

  • shit, got all of my years wrong, what am i smoking... thanks for that man

  • love Phantom but yea can't forget about crown they got some hot stuff this year!

  • They were at JSU in Jacksonville Alabama last night and half our school's band went. We couldn't stay the entire time but I heard the Cadets won.

  • they OWNED in atlanta yesterday but still placed third. I dont care what the scores were, thier show was the only one that made me say wow, what a band...

  • yes theirs and the cavaliers i don't see why blue devils won

  • they have a snare break that is AMAZING!

  • How is Phantom doing on their new Dynasty Drums?

  • I just got back from watching them do a run through tonight at the high school next door to my house, and I have to tell you, they sound AWESOME! Very crisp, clean sound and with the scoops, they really project the sound. Reminds me of the sound of the older Yamaha snares from the 80's. Can't wait until the show tomorrow. This is just my opinion, would love to hear what others think. I'm sure that there are some haters out there.

  • do it jason burris!

  • haha durin the guards killin spree hahah can some one film that drum major ownin that girl i cant find it on here :/

  • is anyone going to that Phantom CLinic in Hattiesburg?

  • Man, Phantom's features are always ridiculous, and ridiculously clean at that, but so boring to watch. Just my opinion, though.

  • i agree stringsofmarty

  • yeah they can shred but not much visuals

  • but if you had to choose between playing amazingly and visuals...i'd choose playing amazingly. then again the judges don't always agree (like BD '07)

  • Haha, it's been said, but I'll say it. BD '07 took a craaazy amount of control. Have you tried it? I have, and it did not work. But like I was saying, if Phantom played their breaks this cleanly WITH visuals (that don't even have to be that dramatic), they'd easily get higher marks.

  • I see what you're saying. But I didn't realize their marks were bad? They won percussion 2 years ago.

  • Really? I didn't know that, actually. I didn't mean they were bad, just that they could possibly be higher in relation to what they've been getting lately (as opposed to BD and such).

  • They aren't very "West Coast." BD is flashy. But Phantom is a much stronger line. The define the way a line should be. IMO

  • Very true. I'm West Coast myself, so it figures I'd think that. But really, I think if Phantom improved the visual aspect of their breaks, they'd easily be best around. BD is killing it in general effect/visual with their stuff right now, as far as I know. Even if Phantom just put in some cool drill moves, they'd be right up there with BD. No disrespect, I just think that would get them a couple extra points.

  • They WISH they could even be in the SAME BREATH as the Blue Devils! sorry.

  • Phantom just owned BD by 4 tenths tonight to take drums in Atlanta...again. Phantom outplays BD every year. Go watch PR for some real quality and drumming. The End.

  • Ya Phantom's been beating BD, and music in general, all season. Phantom, in my opinion, is the best overall corp right now and deserves to get some rings this year. BD's show is lackluster and, once again, the Cavie's show is nothing but visual mixed with what I guess you can call music. Research your facts before you start making stupid statements like that.

  • meant to say Phantom's been beating BD in percussion, and music in general, all season.

  • i love Pr but you're forgetting crown!

  • Sorry. Crown's actually my favorite show this year and I have a friend marching euphonium too so I'm glad they're top 5 right now, but in all honesty their music should be way higher than the Cavies, and BD for that matter. In a perfect world, Phantom should win this year with Crown close behind.

  • Of course they aren't "west coast" simply cuz they arent from the west. but i dont think lines should be described by wut region they are from. every line has their own style and are known for different things. and second PR doesnt define how a drumline should be, they represent themselves and the entire corp. and 3rd, PR is a strong line, but BD is stronger. If BD took out there "flashy" visuals they would rape harder then they already do.(not a BD fan)

  • Phantom plays the most ridiculous book out there the cleanest, end of story.

  • two words. holy crap. Paul Rennick: goodness gracious.

  • that's actually 6...
