  • My Daddy shared this song with me....today is his birthday. The first one since he passed last year. I love you Daddy and miss you so much.

  • My dad played this song at my grandpas funeral

  • I sang this song to my dad when I was 4 years old. He still remembers it, he's dying now, lung cancer. I love you Dad. I play this on guitar now for my kids...

  • this song is one of the few that i need to listen to every now and again just to put life back into perspective

  • This song was played at my Grandfathers funeral. My mom tells me how much I resemble him and it's crazy. I saw a picture of him when he was the age I am now and the resemblance it's unbelievable. This song brings so many memories.

  • @phildawg200 Ya I will be 52 years old this year and my youngest is 12, do you worrry a lot? Believe me, age has little to do with it, I have a lifetime of memories that I try and use but it was hard and still is, even after a couple months It still hurts, I have talked with my boy many times about the age difference, live for the day! Each one is special and there is no guarantees in this world, have a good one.

  • beautiful song helps me accept my dad

  • I just heard this song for the first time on KLRN so I thought I'd look it up on youtube. To my surprise, this song was downloaded the exact day that my dad passed away. It's been almost 3 yrs now... and I can't help but cry.

    Beautiful song!!!!!

  • @cyndig63 I saw Chet sing it live in 1989, and when he finished, there was not a dry eye in the theater.

  • I lost my dad today, dont know what to say or how to act, I'm 51, he was 76, my world is falling apart...

  • Great song.

  • awsome song

  • great song

  • This really hits home. My father and I were always close. My mother was very ill for her last 8 years and he took care of her until his health failed, but was determined to outlive her, to know she was cared for. They were married 58 years. She passed in November. He was diagnosed with Leukemia in early february. We lost him a few weeks ago. He and my mom gave our family so much love, as they did for each other.

    All my love, forever,

    Max Hodges

  • My dad died in 05. all i can ever do is try to be half the father and half the man he was to my daughter. i love this song.

  • I miss you dad. I miss talking to you. I miss the times I'd feel you kiss my forehead when the morning was still dark on your way to work, and cried for you when you were late from work. I miss when you taught me how to shine my shoes. I miss kneeling between your knees and you'd comb my hair. I miss walking with you. I miss your hugs. I miss sharing your food. I miss your advice. I miss working the fields with you and milking the cows. I'm 52 now this year dad and I miss more as I get older.

  • great

  • I love Chet's version of this song--makesme sad though---so beautiful. It makes me think of how long I'll have my dear dad and it always makes me sad when I think that it may not be as long as I'd like---which is forever! MAY WE ALL HAVE OUR DAD'S FOR YEARS AND YEARS OF HAPPY MEMORY MAKING!

  • @micmoable Enjoy every moment with him. My own dad passed away in 2006, and I can tell you, every moment is precious.

  • @daffydoug Sorry to hear of your loss---we never know how long we have with our loved ones---sadly life has to end someday--for each and every one of us

  • my favorite version of this sad song--so touching---makes m, memories--dad's still here but for how long? I don't like to think that it may not be so long---LONG LIVE OUR DAD'S FOLKS!

  • At 21 years of age the last thing i ever dreamed of was having to give my dad cpr, to no avail .It took me 15 years to get over that day (39 years ago) and if we had 1 more day i would be sure to tell him how wonderful a dad he was and most of all that i love him. This song brought back alot of memories. Thanks for sharing

  • Never hurt your children, what you do to them, they will do to the world. Peace.

  • Not a dry eye in the house!

  • I play this song in place of using those expensive eyedrops. Never fails.

  • thank you for putting this out here. is first tym i heard it. my dad is still alive. he taught me to love chet's music, and how to play guitar

  • i thought he was going to say "Every time I look in the mirror, I see george bush." looks exactly like him. great song, great player.

  • I miss my Daddy a lot. He passed away in '98. We weren't on very good terms because of his drinking problem, we were barely speaking. He had a stroke, and I watched him die in the hospital. That was terrible! If your dad is still alive, call him right now and tell him you love him. I wish I could. Dads aren't around forever.

  • I just saw/heard this song on t.v. earlier tonight. What a song! Doesn't matter who you are, if this song doesn't move you or make you think you must be one insensitive or troubled soul.

  • i feel very sad while listening this song and miss my papa so much!!! make me cry all the time my papa passed away long time last twenty year ,he very kind papa

miss him and love him so much !

  • That's touching. It remindes me of when I was a little kid, trying to be like my old man. Thank you Doug.

    R.I.P Chet

  • I miss my dad so much. He died march 6th 2010 of non small cell lung cancer and I still cant believe he is gone. Thankyou chet for putting into a song the the beautiful words describing how I feel. I love you Dad.

  • This is a really great song. RIP Chet

  • Doug,

Thanks for this post. The song says it all. Nice to see all the great comments from everyone for a man who gave us so much great music, and did so much for other musicians and listening audiences everywhere.

    RIP Chet

  • I have two heroes in this life. My father and Chet Atkins. They are both men of class and dignity that I have never been ashamed to say I admired.

  • this song always evokes emotion like a true song should, i love my dad

  • Gosh darn it, this song makes me cry everytime!! I just watched his old live performance, it was a tear jerker!

  • I just found this song today and wish I would have had it when I lost my dad to play at his funeral.

  • My father passed in 1986... this song still makes me misty.....Slyclint... your day is coming...

  • My best friend in the entire world, who I have loved since I was eleven years old couldn't find this song. It was my DUTY to find it for him. Thank you for helping me get the video for him. There's nothing I wont do for my beloved friend.

  • this is one of my favorite Chet songs of all time..it shows that he also had a soft singing voice, although he never had to use it since he's the best guitarist of all time...I listened to this song in Iraq during down time-sometimes others would here it and you'd see grown Marines tearing up-THANK YOU so much for posting

  • Doug, that was great. My father has passed on and I miss him. I heard Chet perform this song

live. I believe it was 1996 in Savannah, GA.

I felt then and still feel it was a wonderful

tribute to all fathers. God bless...

  • My dad passed away a couple years ago, too. Me and him had our differences, but this song made his eyes wet. it was one of a handful of ways I could communicate with him Thanks Chet for saying it like we all feel it deep, down inside.

And Hardsell. don't let your heart be so brick hard or I'll block you from my channel. Most of us here LOVE Chet's music. That's why we're here, and that's why I created this channel..

  • sounds like you are jealous of people that have a good father. yours must have sucked or something.

  • Crawl back under your bridge, troll.

  • if you had any sense of morality you would keep a comment like that to urself... some people in this world had our fathers taken from us at young ages or at the most important times of our lives like i did. this song says everything i feel and it allows me to remember my father and the life i got to share with him. please think before you comment. i dont know if you lost your father or not HardSell08 but please have a little common courtesy to those of us who lost ours and still cant say goodbye
