  • Think this song gets better with age....

  • i like your songs the song that is my favourite is this one :-)

  • At least Aussie bands and Aussie music is real, live, creative and not computer-engineered. Stop playing that fake, computerized American bull-cr@p on our radios and bring back REAL Aussie music that makes sense to all true Aussies everywhere!!!

  • Gotta love it, and all the misbelievers can get f@cked. If the Chisel didn't rule the late 80's, who did???

  • @flyingshark321 The Radiators were a good support act.

  • And again, Barrier Reef decimated two-thirds of my brain. It's a long road back from early childhood brain trauma, but with your help Australia, we the North American victims of Skippy, Barrier Reef, and a host of other broadcasts that somehow made it onto our television screens in the late 1960's and early 70's, we can and shall recover. Apology accepted, as we have no argument with the australian people, you have peculiar ways, it's true, but we harbor no ill will towards you, good people.

  • Kiwi Dream Girl @ 4:02.....

    JK! She's mine!

  • How can one watch AC/DC videos, like Whole Lotta Rosie, seeing those young men head-banging like that, and not be convinced that Skippy and Barrier Reef aren't somehow the root cause of it all? There will come a day when the perpetrators of those television shows will face justice. Until that day, I pledge to make every long-haired Australian boy who loves Rock and Roll a symbol of ruthless, corporate greed. Go ahead you lot, bang on, but know that your hair is not your own creature.

  • Love this you,ll be suprised how many chisel fans there are in uk first heard them when I visited me mate in WA and loved them ever since

  • "...number 3 is never say her name"

I'm not crying, I just spilled beer on my eyes...

    (I still love you Catherine)

  • @bretto444 Go and get her bro.

  • Still sends the same shivers down my spine as it did when I was a child. I could recognize this tune after the first few bars. No matter how old and senile I got.

  • Thanks.

  • @AnarchicTroll AUSIE PRIDE RIGHT HERE LOVE THIS SONG

  • fucking love this song and this band. i had this at my wedding last year and everyone, including the foreign members of the wedding got up to dance. always a welcome tune.

  • This is me and my dads song<3

  • Nothing stopped us on the field in our day!! Loved it then, love it now..THanks CC

  • one of the greatest songs ever.

  • I've been living in Korea for about a year, and most of my friends are other foreigners from the US, Canada, and the UK. They (particularly the Americans) love Cold Chisel and wonder how it's possible they've never heard of them before.

  • @hayesism The American didn't want to know them in the day, so consequently "you got nothing I want" but I bet they wished they'd got on board now. Anyway for us Aussies it has been a fantastic journey and hopefully it aint over yet. Been to a few Chisel concerts and right up until the most recent these guys are still as good today as they were 30 years ago at the last stand.

  • @hayesism Cool, I was in Korea for a while-it is interesting how you get to think of yourself as being a 'Foreigner' it is a real lesson. Remember walking the streets and not seeing any other 'westerners', and if you do you feel like running up to them :-)

  • One of the greatest songs of all time:))

  • Cold Chisel are a timeless band. One of the last real talents. Maybe not as many kids 'listen' to them these days, but when you play a chisel song, they stand up and listen. And they might not admit it, but they wonder what they missed out on.

  • @murdermybride im 17 and i realise this most of the stuff on the radio these days is shit, cold chisel and inxs are great aussie bands which make me proud to be australian

  • @murdermybride man i will admit it i grew up with this music from mum and dad but i still wish music like this was made now it songs like this that take u back to things u want to remember but somtimes u forget its just great

  • such a good song.

check out our channel were aussie (:

  • Everyone has their own " lost forgotten feeling of her" Great lyric, great song

  • I wonder why COLD CHISEL is only popular in Australia...

  • @junkead Because alot of their songs were about Australia and didn't appeal to the international market. It's amazing Jimmy wasn't bigger outside though as his songs were about things everyone can relate to

  • @Breniznit ya very general themes, surprising they didnt do better o/s. This is one of their best, a song about Armidale, new south wales, where the songwriter spent a year finishing off his degree before heading on into cold chisel ;)

  • @junkead because Australians know good music

  • @H0RN3YY We all know good music .. Australians support their music.

  • @H0RN3YY I live in Australia .. umm and I must say Aussies are mostly into 80's and pop music. Not much of creativity. But I do respect their hearts supporting local music.

  • Chisel have just announced they are headlining Bluesfest in Byron next Easter,,

Can't wait to see them again,,,

  • Im from Brazil, but I Like of Australia, a day goes to live there.

  • BEST AUSSIE ROCK SONG OF ALL TIME!

  • how the fuck doesnt this song have more views??

  • The band's former lead singer Jimmy Barnes planted a flame tree (Brachychiton acerifolius) at the National Arboretum Canberra on 14th March 2011, Brachychiton acerifolius is commonly known as the Illawarra Flame Tree

  • Im from the USA and my boyfriend for 2 years is from Aussie and he got me listen to them. Now, i listen to them all the time. Cant get enough of it.

  • perfect song <3

  • @SitDownLEGEND One of the best.

  • im sad :( sounds like i missed out on a great decade

  • @MrEvolutionist i hear ya

  • OK fair enough, we can slip Air Supply in there , but that will only open the flood gates for Skyhooks, Little River Band and Darrell Braithwaite...

  • ilovee cold chisel.. :L

  • Its only Australia which can produce music like this. If only there was music like this on today's charts. I listen to them over and over and my jaw still drops. Cold Chisel were long before my time but they are and always will be my all time favourite.

Being from a small country town in SA, these great Cold Chisel always play in one of two hotels here. There is no such music like what they have produced, this is the real king of aussie rock. Thumbs up to bring back this type of music!

  • @Thiele69 I hope you're going to see them next week!

Can't wait to hear this at the Ent, Cent.

  • @nagaslrac I missed this comment, and just wish I did get to see them :'( I wanted to so bad. Hopefully they can come once more in the near future.

  • When i was doing recruit training at kapooka, then again at 3RAR in Sydnet we flogged the shit out of this song on the juke box...brings back fond memories....darren

  • Great vid

  • Oh and I don't care that much about their new album, as long as it's not all songs about love, being a slut, dancing in some random club, or a breakup; because that's not them!

  • @nzoz1984 Guys can I clear something up about Chisel? Are they going to release their new album first or go on tour first? If they went on tour first, they could try out songs from the new album LIVE and if the audience reacts well, release them on iTunes or whereever.

  • As I've said before, my complaint is not with the people of Australia. I hold you in high regard, although there was that incident back in 1985, in Waikiki. An Aussie kid took off on a small wave and ran right into me as I was paddling out. He snapped the tail off his rental board, and crushed my foot, swelled up horribly, I had to get x-rayed, hurt like the Dickens, too. His father stood over me whilst I writhed in pain on the beach and said" "my son says you broke his surfboard." Eh?

  • @hummlyhummly LOL xD

  • @SolidPRAWN Yes, do laugh at my pain. Go ahead, laugh. At least you acknowledge that it exists. For so long we, the forgotten American child victims of Barrier Reef, Skippy, and other creations of Australian broadcasting, have languished in perfect isolation and hidden abandonment, utterly forgotten. Who would be our voice now, to tell our story? Paul Hogan? Oh bother. Isn't he outback somewhere, throwing shrimps on the barbie, eating Vegemite sandwiches and lip-synching in a drag revue?

  • @hummlyhummly probs just got a bad one

most aussies are pretty nice and caring of others :)

  • @Patsanator I agree, did meet a nice bunch whilst staying at Fort Mason hostel in S.F. Tagged along to Alcatraz with them, told them my story, and how I had hated Aussies, but they changed my POV. A surfer from SOCAL, I feel a kinship w/ yous. However, that father who stood over me on the beach, and coldly demanded I give him money for what was his own son's stupid fault, as if I had any money on me, that SOB went over and told a Hawaiian police officer that I'd broken his son's rental.

  • Only a country like Australia could produce a band as good as Cold Chisel, in the exact same fashion a country like Canada could produce an artist as good as Bryan Adams.

    Like that one.

  • @pfeds are you seriously comparing Bryan Adams to Cold Chisel????????? Your brain needs the long wash on hot water with the long rinse my friend......

  • The best song from the best band in the WORLD. Cold Chisel, Cant wait to see them again in Sydney !!

  • Imma kiwi but I like cold chisel, its the stories man, the stories

  • @rueboyHSV I'll tell you a story, "mate." The sad story of millions of American children sitting in front of television sets in the 1970's, "mate." What are they watching, "mate"? They're watching Skippy, and Barrier Reef, and their frontal lobes are being decimated, "mate." How's that for a story, "mate"? Write a song about that, "mate." Mind me kangaroo, "mate." Put an extra shrimp on the barbie, "mate." Skippy turned my brain to crap, "mate." G'day, "mate." Fuck's sake, "mate."

  • @hummlyhummly every one is being brainwashed mate, nothing we can do about it, its in the music, food, movies, tv everything, what are we gonna do, nothing thats what, so might as well go with the flow

  • @rueboyHSV Yours is not a lone voice crying, crying I say, in the wilderness rueboy, God bless you. Oh, I went with the flow alright. Brainwashed? Try brain-damaged. Barrier Reef just went "with the flow" all over my young mind, and I've never been the same since. Well, I'll tell you one sweet thing my down-under friend: I'm not about to cross a Quantas Airline picket line, and I'm sure as hell not going to "go with the flow"! Dammit man, I will not rest till justice is served, and well!

  • @hummlyhummly the matrix has you hummly, it has us all, resistance is futile

  • @rueboyHSV HAHAHAHAHA LOL!

  • @hummlyhummly you sound like a fucking cult leader. stop lving your life talkin shit and do somethin.

  • @SolidPRAWN Add two more voices, and now hear the chorus surge! Yes my dears, welcome. Welcome SolidPRAWN and AintSheABeute! You both add your voices to an already growing chorus of outrage at the injustice of Australian television broadcasting, and the damage suffered by so many children in North America in the 1960's and 70's. Thank you. What say the rest of you Australians? Won't you demonstrate this kind of courage, and speak out against the horror of Skippy, and Barrier Reef?

  • American diver killed in, where else, Australia. Sure, a sensational story like that gets plenty of coverage. But what about all the American children growing up in the 1960's and 70's, who were exposed to toxic levels of Skippy, and Barrier Reef, what about them? I was one such child. My brain has extensive neurological damage, a direct result of watching just one episode of Skippy. The side effects are devastating, and there is no known cure. Damn your great white shark, my brain's crap.

  • Skippy. Barrier Reef. Don't you know children in America were brain-damaged from exposure to these television broadcasts, and others? They came from Australia. Does that surprise you? I'm here to tell you all that it's time the perpetrators of this crime be brought to justice! Skippy damaged my mind, it ruined my childhood. Barrier Reef made my life the misery it is today, and I demand justice! Bring these criminals to court, make them pay, say sorry, for what they've done, at long last.

  • @hummlyhummly Can't tell if trolling, or just stupid.

  • i think its mad im a mad fan ive been for years anychance of gettin some memorabillia of yous as im a huge fan yous are awsome im glad yous got back together

  • I like the Sarah Blasko version better.

  • word to the unwise jimmy barnes is scottish!

  • @mexicanpete69

True. And he's still an Australian.

    Fantastic song.

Saw him years ago. The man does NOT need a mike.No electric .Just acoustic. Loud harmonious.

As for the Tin Lids.Well Ahh.

Looks like a bit of rain tomorrow

  • @mexicanpete69 Sure, he's Scotland-born. However, he moved to Australia at the age of 4, to young really to have prior Scottish influence beside his parents. Gotta love Jim

  • I expect they all have regrets....disbanded way too early...BUT I was there @ the Last Stand...

  • This is my funeral song, I love it that much.

  • Im going to their concert in December! CANT FUCKING WAIT

  • That one song that you hear in the car when your a kid and spend half of your life trting to find it. This is mine. :D

  • 23 wogs....thats my guess

  • @dantheman891000 you're a fucking idiot mate

  • Esta canción es muy grande, fantástica, maravillosa, potente.

  • fuck im glad they banned smoking from pubs

  • @barbs19788 fuckhead

  • @TheMitchtuber well if u like coming home from the pub stinking like shit and having the early on-set of passive smoking related lung cancer good for you.

  • Im proud to be an Aussie. But even prouder to be a South Aussie.

  • The first step to resurrecting this kind of music is kicking the pokies and Nightlife video jukeboxes out of local pubs and getting live ORIGINAL bands back in. I'm sorry but beergarden cover bashers just don't cut it. It's called Pub Rock for a reason. The revolution starts with the punters!

  • @Eyeman25 im with you mate.. trouble is dicks like gary anderson ( he doesnt deserve to be called angry anymore) is getting royalties from pokies now ..i miss seeing up and coming bands in pubs

  • I sit in my lounge room listening to this on the computer and thinking why arent I at the pub listening on the juke box . THEN I REMEMBERED ALL THE OLD PUBS ARE GONE .

  • i agree with "bigtone"

  • I fucking love being an Aussie. At the risk of sounding like an old fart, they just dont make songs like this anymore. You can stick your vacuous pop crap and hip hop up your arse mate. Chisels / Oils / INXS /Icehouse / ACDC / Rose Tattoo / V Spy V Spy / Men at Work / James Reyne / Dragon / The Angels / Hoodoo Gurus/Nick Cave /Paul Kelly /Hunters and Collectors, even Johnny Fucking Farnham for Christ's sake, plus 20-odd other legendary bands...what an awesome time and place was Oz in the 80s eh?

  • @bigtone12 - great comment

  • @bigtone12 Bring back the fucking 80"s is all I can say

  • @bigtone12 Well i'm 17 and I agree totally!

  • @bigtone12 As an American, let me give you a thumbs up

  • @bigtone12 Air Supply too?

  • @bigtone12 totally agree

  • @bigtone12

Good list but isn't Crowded House an Australian band.

Or are they a kiwi band.

  • @boogs2007 CHouse are Kiwi's..

Good to see ya inc Spys there Tone... ;)

  • @truespyfan Formed in 1985 by 2 Australians and 1 Kiwi in MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA.

Produced 2 World Wide sensational albums. 6 years later another Finn joins the band and their success diminishes as the band takes on a more SPLIT ENZ sound. As a successful trio they were most definitely AUSTRALIAN.

  • @bigtone12 How is it we were so flooded with pure talented bands in the 80's (which majority never got their fair wack at fame they deserved), yet you look at music these days, its shit. and thats being harsh to shit.

Theres not an aussie band worth pissing on now that i can think of off top of my head. Saw Wolfcrap supporting AC/DC and without a word of a lie, the crowd was walkin out of the arena - i wondered wat was going on as I'd just arrived. :( Thought the joint was on fire...

  • @bigtone12 I love being an Aussie too but unfortunatly this country is pretty fucked at the moment. Need to restore it back to what it was like in the Early 80's.

  • @bigtone12 *hm hem, dragons a bit New Zealand aye...

  • "do you remember nothing stopped us on a field in our day?'...

  • WOOP WOOP, they are performing around and i got tickets !!!!

  • fucking great song. amazing amazing amazing.

  • Aint nothing like Barnsey and Aussie fuckin rock

  • no flame trees in armidale!!

  • @inquisitiverobbo You need to consider poetic license. Flame trees blinding the weary driver refers to the autumn colours along Elm Avenue. And, like I said, the lyric writer spent a year in Armidale not long before he wrote this song. :)

  • This song reminds me of all the small country towns I've driven through on a Sunday, this is a song we should be proud of.

  • cold chisel....fucken fantastic!!

  • Awesome blast from the past, still sounds totally fresh! :-))

  • why is this my go to song when im pissed, so nostalgic

  • This is a great all time song. The words are so poetical and meaningful. So iconic. LOve it

  • Despite sources suggesting this song is about Grafton, I am totally convinced it is instead about Armidale. The lyricist spent a year in Armidale finishing his science studies not long before writing the song and if you have ever been to UNE in Armidale, Elm Avenue (the main drag to uni) is completely encompassed in 'flame trees' for a couple of months each year. I'm tipping the author had a girl in Armidale and didn't want the lyrics pinned down to her, so instead "it's about Grafton".

  • @GT4GTR agree. ....I just came home from his concert (their) still buzzing and still feeling nostalgic and missing this classic aussie music....legendary

  • @GT4GTR I', from a small country town myself in S.A. God i miss this sort of music in pubs live..I luv Oz roclk angels, hunters and collectors, divynals, screaming jets , hoodoo gurus, oils and the list goes on. cant wait to see the angels this month with dave gleeson singing.

  • This is the "our song" for my wife and I - nuff said!

  • I am 44 , I didnt really like this song back in the 1980,s but now I think it is a all time classic . great sound , great lyrics and it says so much about regional Australia, possible more relevent today than when it was written and recorded. Well done boys

  • AUSTRALIA FOR THE WIN! tomorrow when the war began has to be the best movie ever

  • Im going to the Cold Chisel concert in sydney in november! So excited!

    JIMMY BARNES <3

  • its just the best to be an aussie!!!!!!

  • @jarrod123450 fukn damn right it is mate.

  • Oberon NSW ?...was there in 74.. no sign of Barnsie in those days... Damn must have missed my calling... loved him long time... go the Chisel...

  • filmed in cold cold Oberon. i get cold watching the clip.....

  • Thanks ozzy !! for such an awsome FUKIN BAND !!!!!

  • Jimmy Barnes had a very soulful and unique voice....a rocker’s voice with class.

He is sublime here, interpreting the lyrics beautifully over a the superbly temperamental and smooth rhythm.

Thing is, as good as he was (and Chisel) they never really achieved the overseas fame that awaited them.

Legend has it Jimmy Page was so impressed with Jimmy’s talent back in the mid-80s that he organised a meeting via Atlantic Records. Of course, it never worked out.

    Meh, Page's loss.

  • Good memories, good music never forget...........

  • Good memories, good music never forget...........
