Yes timescape and mediascape are still slow and laggy because everything is rendered by the CPU and not the GPU.

I wish I could understand the on going conversation in the video but one thing I can clearly understand from this video that the device is very speedy and it will come with more good speed once it will be optimized completely to the processor.

Yes, it is TFT, no, it is not only 65K colors. Android 1.6 only supports 1.6. The screen is 16M. Android 2.0 supports 16M colors, and will be put on the X10 at some point, Sony hasn't said when.

It's software, not hardware. The hardware is fully capable, other than the slight drawback of being TFT instead of OLED. Which the only drawback there is size (not an issue, since the phone is already very thin) and battery life.
