@taz3001 Oh, hell, I guess it's the power of mass media...I'd say, more than likely, that anyone born after 1990 has been overexposed to preformulated crap, and not real music....I'll make damn sure my younger relatives, some already into music at a young age, never forget what the 80's bands were like, and how they relate to the drivel that's out there today.
hey hey hey....woah...i was born in 1995 and this is one of the best rock bands there is. im more of a country person my self...but its still amazing music! i love lots of 80s bands, some 90s, some 70s. but ya, lots of people just dont realize how good the 80s bands were.
@Strider690 I agree, but, well, they really do sound the same to my ear. IDK, don't you think that Nickelback just sounds like Nirvana on a slow day? (I know all about their local-boys-made-good story, but still)...Remember how Oasis claimed to be the greatest rock band in the world at a show in Vancouver some 15-odd years ago- and were promptly subjected to a hail of the audience's shoes? OK, before I sound too much like the Georgia Straight's music section- ...
@bluecollarcanuck ...I agree, too, there are some up-&-coming musicians that sound pretty good these days. Alexa Ray Joel, for one, & I believe some of the 80's new wave & pop artists had kids who are now following in their parents' footsteps. (I don't necessarily mean Nick Simmons, but he's had a lot of media exposure.) I just don't like celebutards like Britney or Lindsay, who end up as tabloid fodder, acting badly in low-budget soft porn, either.
Nickelback is good, but I dont listen to Nirvana. I've heard maybe 2 of their songs and I dont really like them. And I've heard of Oasis but never listened to their songs. And Im only 15 years old myself, so I dont remember hearing anything about them claiming they were the best. And I also dont like Britney or Lindsay...Like I said before, more of a country boy. But my mom and dad LOVE older music, 70s, 80s, 90s...I learned to like lots of different music.
@Strider690 Agreed; the bands (i.e. Boston; now there's creative playing & songwriting) from the 60's to 80's, but esp. the 80's, just had that independent & creative quality to them. I'm sure you must have listened to Boston, Hendrix, Zeppelin, AC/DC, etc. -Even Rap sounded different back then; just listen to today's & then compare it to Run-DMC & Ice-T from '88-'89. (Never was much of a Rap fan; stuck to Rock, mostly.) Also played piano/ acoustic guitar in my younger years.
@bluecollarcanuck -You could say I developed an ear for, or an appreciation for, music that only comes from actually studying the subject on a classical level. -Also listened to lots of opera/ classical.
Yeah, Ive listened to my share of Boston, ACDC, a bit of Zeppelin...Not very much of Hendrix though. But I dont listen to ANY rap, old or new...Well, cept for a few songs ("Fire Burning" by Sean Kingston and "Evacuate the Dance Floor" by Cascada) I play a small bit of guitar to, not very much though and I play the trumpet, although I dont play it as much as I used to.
I appreciate all music, it takes talent to write a song. I just like some music more than others.
I used to play the circut back in the 80's in Toronto and they used to play the same bars we did like rock and roll heaven when it was located at younge and bloor and the gasworks. They made it and we did'nt lol chris
This band just blew the roof off Nottingham Rock City at Firefest VI. They were totally awesome and the best band of the day. I would have paid the whole price of the ticket just to see this band alone. Absolutely amazing.
@defleppardgirl09 let me know if you want any of their mp3s, I don't mind sending them to anyone..just need your email...be happy to send you anything from their greatest hits.

But yes, there are some new singers that are really good, but I dont think very many singers will be as good as some of the older bands.
