The pick-ups are the bulid in jazzmaster ones (ofc) plus a Woolworth top20 (his old guitar) pick-up in the mid position.

I dunno if he's using rhythm/lead bridge/mid/neck in this particular song, if this what you meant.

Have you heard The Reasons Why? It's on their new album, 4:13 Dream. Its not "happy" at all. I see what you mean though, I much prefer the older more depressing stuff. Cheerful music never really works as well =/
