while you could get away with using both the headphones in a fairly low volume enviorment, you will do yourself serious damage in a nightclub were everything is very loud. you would have to turn the headphone volume all the way up so you can't hear the PA system. thats the real reason DJs only use one ear. 1 for the monitor and one for the cued track

u dont have to turn the volume in ur headphones up at all, 99% of clubs have booth volumes, so the dj can select his own volume....and armin van buuren as an example has both sdes of headphone on his head and he uses split where one song is played in one headphone and the other is the other headphone..

By looking at the control vinyl, it appears that pvd is using Torq. But it doesn't mean he fully switched to software, I use Serato, and it's a great way to carry tons of music in a external harddrive.
