I have a small dent about 3 inches in diameter on my door. I haven't touched it.. I don't know what you mean by creased.. Do you think this will work for me? Could it cause more damage if it doesn't work or is it worth a try no matter what? Is that compressed CO2? Thanks
I have a Cadillac cts with a dent by the gas tank on the crease of the metal, if you can picture it. You know, the defining lines on the Cts and Sts. You think this will work on that or will it make it worse? It's seems as if it may, but I'm hesitant.
i think that they put that dent there because it had to be creaseless or that would not of worked. in the real world its a one in a thousand easy dent.
@2010alleycat Incorrect. This is not a 1 in a thousand dent, specifically someone (In my opinion maliciously) 'fell' into my car and put this dent there.
@remy7142002 Blow dryer. A heat gun would work, but you'd need to be careful with it as it's going to get much hotter then a hair dryer, potentially damaging the paint.
How small of a dent can this be done on? I've got about a quarter sized dent right above where my wheels are, no idea how it got there. Any tips for fixing it?
It's compressed air.... Computer dust off spray... you can get it at walmart for 5 bucks a can from the electronics department, or really ANY electronics store, or home improvement store.
will this work with car door and roof dents? Cause last year something fell from a tree i was parked under and hit the top of my roof making a car door dent like circle. I don't know if it was a walnut or what.
If this worked body shops all over would be closing down it's a load of shit if it worked for them they got lucky with a prefect dent that would never happen twice
@bronzoni1129 lol speaking of body shops i know a guy that workds in a body shop that has done this and charged people 100 bucks. So navie people wouldn't know.
@bronzoni1129 Obviously it's not going to work for every dent. Some basic knowledge of metallurgy will allow you to estimate what chance you have of it working. But for a "push in" from a soft object (in this case it was caused by my ex-roomates fat asscheek), it was a no brainer.
You really know nothing of body work then as this is an old trick and a variant of some of the early dent removal services that used dry ice and water to contract the metal taking the play out of it and basically making it pop back into shape. As he said creases wont work but things like hail or large metal stretches like this it will work. Creased metal requires tooling and dollying.
I tried this today but it didn't work. How warm does the air from the hair dryer need to be? I don't have a lot of experience with hair dryers, so I have no idea if the one we got is good or not, but it definitely didn't seem very hot on the highest setting.. Could the lack of heat be the problem?
@Lasse3333 Not wanting to speak for the original uploader here but I believe that he is using an actual "Heat Gun" not a standard run of the mill hair/blow dryer (big difference between the two). Autobody shops typically have heatguns for the removal of vinyl lettering/striping for paint prep or for wherever heated air is called for.
@Lasse3333 Probably you bought the cheapest hair dryer at Walmart just like I did and the damn thing didn't get hot enough. Ended up buying a $20 bigger one and it worked.
Any idea if this will work on a dent that is between the door crack and side panel? I have a coupe and have had a very small dent for awhile. You could count it as two small dents since the crack between the door and side panel separates them.
that is pretty cool, imma try that at work sometime! btw to all you folks having trouble tryingt this, if you can get ahold of a glass fitting suction cup, wet it around the rim, gently press it on and pull, should pop out just like this guys nifty lil trick on dents similar to the one in this vid.
attempted this today and tragically it did not work. I realized that since i have a brand new 2010 corolla most of the exterior is made of plastic. Most newer vehicles are made with plastic so if u fall into that category it prob wont work for you either. Ill prob have to remove the inner door panel and use a heat gun of blow dryer and work it out that way.
I did this with a small butane torch I had. I heated up the dented area until the paint started smoking and sliding off then I threw my slurpee on it and it worked just as good. Didn't even need any can of compressed air. Those things are expensive, slurpees are $1
An asshole friend of mine decided it would be cute to enter my S2000 without opening the door and put a ripple in the driver's door with his leg in the process. I am going to try this and hopefully make it disappear. Should I use a standard can of computer duster-type compressed air and a regular hair dryer?
@GregoryHouseMD1 Its compressed air, canned air, few names for it, you can get it anywhere there is computer stuff, the main purpose of it, is to remove dust from your computer. Might even be called dust remover. I think its about 3 bucks or so, not to bad.
@GregoryHouseMD1 At any computer store and some hardware stores, by the look of that can if it is the same as I think it is it was actually a green gas can.
What did you mean when you said it only works on ones that aren't creased (towards the end of the video)? I have a dent a little bigger than the one in this video and wanted to see if this works.
@christoph7051 Once the metal is physically deformed (stretched) the dent will no longer come out using this method. Despite the dent being pushed in, it hadn't lost it's original shape since it was a fat ass cheek that caused this dent and not a sharp pointy metal object like a nail that would definitely deform the metal with out much force.
It's another form of shrinking, an auto body technique used to tighten stretched metal you are working. It will not work if there is a crease in the panel, then you would need PDR and if it is really creased bad, a body shop.
I've repaired the side of my car with filler and had it resprayed, a small dent above the repaired dent still remains. Do you think this method would crack the filler below?
I just thought i would make a correction it's not "compressed air" it is "compressed co2" and to answer some questions about why hes holding the can upside down he is holding it upside down because co2 in it's natural form is a liquid and in order to use it's freezing properties it must be sprayed on the car in it's liquid form hence you see him holding it upside down and the white "smoke". When it's not held upside down you will see very little to no white "smoke".
Are you new? or do you not know how to read? CO2 is liquid. it is contained in the tank in liqiud form when it is released it is released in gas form because it has space in the can to be converted into the gas form. there is no syphon tube in the can like there would be in a normal aerosol can because its not meant to spray the liquid CO2 it is only meant to spay the expanded gas form of CO2. By holding the can upside down the liquid form of CO2 is released.
To all you who can't figure out how it works, it's simple physics really.
Heat expands, lack of heat contracts. That's the simple idea behind it.
While using the hair dryer, he was expanding the molecules, making then looser and easier the manipulate. When he added the liquid nitrogen the molecules quickly compacted together because of the freezing temperature. The quick temperature change causes the molecules to become more dense than normal for a brief second causing the panel to "pop" back
Has the Dent Come Back? In other Videos ive read once back on heat of the sun the dent will return. im thinking of using this method to my 05 Nissan Altima. Any Ideas
@rotarycomptech looks like he is just using one of those keyboard air spray cleaners but held upside down so it sprays out all the nitrogen or w/e is in side it.
@12345134768769680800, all of this coming from someone who can't even put together a proper sentence. I think you need to go back to school to learn grammar and spelling. But back on topic--of course metal has a memory. That's the whole premise of paintless dent removal. Silly kid!
@12345134768769680800, the only thing I want to use hammer on is your head. You obviously have a lot to learn, son. So in the meantime, stop lying to everyone. If you think metal does not have a memory, then open a book and learn something for once in your life.
@12345134768769680800, you are a complete and total idiot. The heat from the sun will NOT make the dent reappear, you stupid douche. Metal has a memory. The dent is NOT the normal shape of the metal, so once it is removed, it will stay in the original shape regardless of hot or cold temps.
@EvenSteven2004 That's not what this guy that works at an auto body shop.. says in his video.....about dry ice dent repairs at least. He states that going back out into the sun will cause the dent to re-appear.

it is a very interesting methode to straighten out your dents but yes there are drawbacks if you just think a little.trie this with your teeth drink a cup of very hot water and imedietely after dat drink a cup of icy cold water what happens? your enamel from your teeth starts to crack same thing happens here your paint will start to crack and eventualy it will start to peel off...and it worcks on anything that expands in heat and retracts in cold....
Molecular physics at its best. The heat makes the metal expand The rapid cold blast tightens the metal back. Pulling the weaker metal (dent) back faster then the other metal
are there any risks to this? i have a dent on my rear quarter panel of my G35 coupe and i'm tempted to try this... i guess i need to figure out what its made out of too.. aluminum? steel? plastic? i'm assuming this only works on plastic. What about tiny hail-type dents, or are those too sharp?
@ryanazarko No there is no risk to your paint or clear coat. My car is made out of steel sheet metal the same as your car. the only difference maybe that mine is thinner. If the metal is stretched at the center of the dent, then the dent will not pull out with this method.
One of the main reasons this works is because its an aluminum body. The expansion rate of aluminum is much greater than steel. Still...BRAVO, awesome work.
But I would be very surprised if this worked on a steel body panel. I also assume it would have to be on a dent that created a true "oil-can" effect. Like on a door or some panel that only had contour in one direction I would be surprised if it worked.
@bingbing207 it's just a compressed air can. They sell them at pretty much any store like office max, office depot, heck I'll be willing to bet Kmart and Wallmart sell it too. Normally if you hold it right side up it shoots air to dust of your keyboard on your computer. If you hold it upside down it shoots liquid CO2. It works for this and also to burn the shit out of your buddy's skin which is hilarious.
@htowngoonies keyboard cleaner is £4 in uk, search ebay for compressed air. To have a dent repaired your looking at £80 plus that's 20 times as much!

You can also get compressed air from dollar stores and video games as compressed air is solely for dusting. It doesn't have to be used for computers.

This is bullshit. There was a guy in the trunk, that pushed the dent out at the right moment. Don't be fooled by these hooligans!!

Silly kid!
EvenSteven2004 1 year ago
@12345134768769680800, the only thing I want to use hammer on is your head. You obviously have a lot to learn, son. So in the meantime, stop lying to everyone. If you think metal does not have a memory, then open a book and learn something for once in your life.
EvenSteven2004 1 year ago
Is there a type of compressed air can we need or are they all the same? I got a hair dryer, all I'm missing is a compressed air can.
jjchargerboy16 1 year ago
@12345134768769680800, you are a complete and total idiot. The heat from the sun will NOT make the dent reappear, you stupid douche. Metal has a memory. The dent is NOT the normal shape of the metal, so once it is removed, it will stay in the original shape regardless of hot or cold temps.
EvenSteven2004 1 year ago

COOL!!! your car is metal, so IT WORKS, sadly for those people if have fiber glass car!!! lol
kikearmenta 1 year ago
@kikearmenta Actually, fiberglass will break or crack instead of a dent. I don't think there are cars made out of complete fiberglass.

What about tiny hail-type dents, or are those too sharp?
ryanazarko 1 year ago
@ryanazarko No there is no risk to your paint or clear coat. My car is made out of steel sheet metal the same as your car. the only difference maybe that mine is thinner. If the metal is stretched at the center of the dent, then the dent will not pull out with this method.
defekticon 1 year ago
will it work on small hail dents?
sw4eva2 1 year ago
One of the main reasons this works is because its an aluminum body. The expansion rate of aluminum is much greater than steel. Still...BRAVO, awesome work.
But I would be very surprised if this worked on a steel body panel. I also assume it would have to be on a dent that created a true "oil-can" effect. Like on a door or some panel that only had contour in one direction I would be surprised if it worked.
Again EXCELLENT demonstration!!! Thanks for that.
AZAZPdotcom 1 year ago
@AZAZPdotcom Incorrect. This is not an aluminum bodied car. This car is made of regular steel sheet metal just like any other car.

what the spray thing called?
bingbing207 1 year ago
@bingbing207 it's just a compressed air can. They sell them at pretty much any store like office max, office depot, heck I'll be willing to bet Kmart and Wallmart sell it too. Normally if you hold it right side up it shoots air to dust of your keyboard on your computer. If you hold it upside down it shoots liquid CO2. It works for this and also to burn the shit out of your buddy's skin which is hilarious.
nastynewt420 1 year ago
I tried this, didn't work, but my dents were a lot smaller.

Does this do any sort of damage to the paint it self? Also, I guess it won't work if there is a line or crease?
