  • you have to look for a special kkind of ram WHAT A JOKE my laptop has 4 gb of ram

  • for 2007 that would of been top shit

  • Uhh. Duo-core/dual core same thing, it's more like Dual-processors are not on the same die, wihlst your Dualcore machine is, which is the better machine :D

  • Dual core is one CPU doing two jobs but you can have a single core with hyper threading and dual CPU is two doing two jobs

  • Mabie you should cut you losses sell the g5 and install osx on a windows pc

  • Nice keyboard

  • FF CLASS!!!! haha

  • Where did u purchase the Ram from? trying to do the same thing!

  • @nmoorefouru google mac memory, have a nosey

  • FF class = FUCKING FAST

  • What is the maximum ram it can hold?

  • @Declanw09 8 gigs.

  • @Declanw09

8 or 16 gigs depending on your model

  • Hey Fuzz nut, you can say shit on you tube.

  • And what are the rest of your specefications

  • thats not alot of things noob

  • Thanks :)

  • I bought last month macbook pro, and i'm kinda disapointed... Could you please recommend me some programs and apps that I could use? Because I don't have any expirience with mac's...

  • @Peca1996 just search "fun mac applications" Failing that, play with Front Row or Photo Booth

  • @Peca1996 Get a G5 or a G4 laptop. It will always be the best.

  • If anyone wants a ATI X1900 G5 Mac Edition. 256MB I have one for sale all want is $100.00 & shipping and its yours Works like new. I no longer need it because I now have a 8core 2009 Mac pro w/ATI 4870. So if anyone wants it PM me. thanks Love these videos!

  • good job

  • Your such a geek :D But you taught me loads in that vid aha, Thanks!

  • my pc had a latch on it, and its case is from like 2005

  • hi, i have an powermac g5 that keeps freezing at either the apple logo spinning gear screen, or the booting mac loading bar screen. then the fans turn into a tornado. what should i do? i reseated the ram, wiped the ram, and even tried a different hdd. please help! thanks!

  • pcs dont use screws, just like a mac, (most of them anyway)

  • PC's don't even have that thing in there (the fan assembly)

  • I know, even better!

  • That's because they copied apple, like usual

  • NOW they do....back in 2005 when this machine was new, not a single PC had it till months later

  • Do you still have this mac also did you get the graphic card

Also good video there's not many powermac G5 videos around

I've just bought one off eBay

I live in the uk too

  • You missed a part that needs to be censored.

  • Lol, "not on a Mac". Normally a PC wouldn't have a massive G5 logo inside, covering up all the innards but not on a Mac!

Lol, nah a beast of a machine that has been made better still.

  • Lmao when you were like "wahoo!!" I laughed like 3 seconds later

  • You need scissors and a lamp, bro.

  • and a tripod too

  • well i would take you up on that offer but i don't have what $500,000. That what 1,000,000 pounds is in dollars?right?

  • pounds are more expensive than the US dollar.

  • You wouldn't take him up on the offer. Even a Mac Pro form right now with 32GB of RAM and 4TB hard drive space (4 1TB) is about $20,000 - $25,000. He just suggested nearly $1.7 million.

  • thanks. Does it come with it when you buy it?

  • You planning on buying mine? since your so interested... £1,000,000 please ^^

  • @petro1986 Talk about inflation.

  • can the power mac g5 hold mac x Leopard?

  • well, i've been using Leopard for the past year so yeah... it can.

  • dude buy sissors!!!

  • Hi, do you know if the liquid cooling system in your G5 is the revised one from Panasonic, compared to those delphi leaky ones in the early dual core G5s? I believe the Quad core which is what I have came out in October of 2005.

  • Is this a liquid cooling G5?

  • tanx dude, i was never gonna open it witout you

  • your a twat, I have a mac, i love them, but your just generly a twat

  • Oh motion is pretty qucik now, WELL I USE 1.5gb for MOTION!

  • lol big and fat like u no offence G5

  • CUT YOUR HAIR !

  • LOL you're so funny... hahahahaha.... thanks... tomorrow I will buy 2GB ram... for my G5...

  • haha i liked how you bleeped out swear words

  • If you're still looking for an all in one Blu-ray drive for the Mac, MCE Technologies makes one specifically for the Mac Pro and PowerMac G5 models. Google it.

  • quite funny lol

  • A 2GB kit (2 sticks) is now down to $59 at Crucial... Memory is a snap on my Dual 1.8 (8 slots) but changing out the 2nd SATA drive can be a bitch!

Anyone have any tricks to make them easier to swap? I was thinking of looping a wide IDE cable over it for leverage...

  • who gives a fuck

  • ya mum

  • lol what having you anything better to do like getting your dole or something

  • dude im 14...

  • I thought this was a single G5. Didn't the Duals have two G5's visible through the side case?

  • lol nice keyboard!

  • lol ur a dick

  • At least linux was built from the ground up, unlike mac os x which is just a pretty GUI over freebsd.

  • totally incorrect. Linux is just a quick clone of MINIX. It's less built from the ground up than OSX by a WIDE MARGIN. Learn your computing history.

  • and how is linux a minix clone when linux is gnu/linux, linux is just the kernel linus created linux from scratch because he hated using minix and i ask again how is linux a minix clone?-+

  • Actually Steve jobs stole his software from the Xerox development team in California, that created graphics user interface operating system.

the movie "Pirates of silicone valley" kinda of shows you it.

years later jobs takes personal credit accounting his research team for the creation

when Bill gates stole what he stole was simply poetic justice

  • pirates of silicone valley wasnt 100% accurate. xerox made steve jobs buy the rights to the GUI, he actually went to xerox for programs to go with the apple computers. later on bill gates bought a copy of the GUI from xerox. In court both apple and microsoft were able to keep the GUI because they both owned the rights to it. microsoft just had to change the appearance, because apple got it first.

  • Dude , did you hear this old Power Mac g5 won't support the next version of OS X, Intel only.

  • pssh, Linux>OS X if you're looking for power.

  • don't be an idiot, OSX is far more robust, plus it's a REAL UNIX, not a kiddy unix-wantabee OS like Linux.

If you want the most power and the most software, you get a Mac every time.

  • at least linux is an os and not just a gui built upon bsd.

  • what in the hell are you talking about? Linux is no different than OSX, both have GUI's built on top of Unix kernels. Only main difference is OSX is a REAL UNIX, where Linux is just a rehash of MINIX.

OSX is just a GUI, OH MY GOD THAT IS FUNNY!

  • lmfao u claim it to be real unix just because they used freebsd lmfao!!! freebsd is the real unix not mac osx mac osx just took parts from it shows how creative and original mac is lmfao!!

  • no, it's because OSX is a 100% certified, fully compliant UNIX, while Linux is just "unix like".

OSX is based on Steve's NeXT OS, learn your history.

  • unix kernel+freebsd+nextstep=mac osx learn your history idiot

  • Well done to both of you for arguing like morons on the internet.

  • Wow, you have a Quad-Core PowerMac G5, your so lucky! How fast does it run? Is it still great for editing?

  • should I upgrade my powermac quad to 16 gigs?

  • Well, what would you be needing 16gigs or ram for? unless you are doing scientific research.

I've found that on the old PowerMacs is that after 4 gigs of ram, you don't notice it being any faster.

If you are a regular human being then I would save you're pennies and go with 4GB of ram.

    ;D

  • well I already have 6.5, so I should be good, thanks for replying.

  • i just have 512 mb of ram u.u

  • me too LOL

  • You're funny

  • Thats cool man UR awsome

  • ill give you 20 bux if you touch the g5 heatsink after its been running for 2 days straight

  • You've never cooked with an AGA then?

who uses the $ anymore for currency? it ain't worth the paper it's printed on... the € is solid.

  • apparently, the euro has bought your fat ass plenty to eat.

  • lol

  • Hey man. I enjoyed your video. keep up the good work.

  • inel quad core and 8g of memory and i didn't blow 5000$ without mem upgrade.

  • up to 16 GB of ram!!!!!!!!!!!

  • All in dew time xP

  • Wow so, 11 mins later and the best view we got was your arm. Grats, nice video....

  • Hey petro1986, I really enjoyed your video except for the fact that its ALMOST ELEVEN MINUTES LONG, STFU AND JUST SHOW US HOW TO UPGRADE THE RAM WE DONT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR LIFE.

  • man, fuck off! don't be so harsh, if he wants to talk about something then let him, and if you don't like him talking don't watch the video...

  • No offense, but that G5 in there is really slowing it down because my 2.4 ghz (c2D) 1gb of ram imac is way faster then that... sorry if im making a big mistake but my computer pwns that.

  • But I've affection for my old G5, it's like an old sheep dog that sits in the corner, faithful and ready to do the odd job for me...

  • Whats the score?

  • Also, My G5 is king! it would MegA HellA destroy you're feeble iMac... It's so dayum heva! like you're mom is less pHat that my compy D:

    xP

  • Just for fun, lets do a geekbench test:P reply with your results.

  • Do something with you're Mac, a video, a song, a picture.

Stop wining about how great you're mac is, no one is paying any attention anyway...

  • good info, thanks. i also like the way you edited this together. i used to make a lot of vids so i kinda appreciate that extra little detail.

  • it booted sklower because it was reqinizing your new ram

  • haha.....i watched all of it...maybe im sad with no morals....but your funny.

  • in work we have a dual core 2.3 g5 with 3.5gb of ram and a dual processor 2.0 g5 with 5.5 gb ram! we use cs2 for photo editing :D ive never seen them use over 50% of their ram lol

  • yeah! very nice video! intertaining!

  • Can I use the apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse on my Power Mac G5?

  • only if you believe!!!

  • Help!!!

My Power Mac G5 won't turn on!

  • oh :O

did you try plugging it in?

  • Oh yeah, forgot.

    You're smart dude.

Too bad I can't find my Power Cable :P

  • Nevermind..that is a Power. I got confused for a sec lol

  • Mac Pro not Power mac

  • before Macs had switched to Intel the models were called Powermacs and PowerBooks

  • I Know that...

  • its a powermac g5!

  • i know that

  • So... what's the point of this? To future-proof it so you'll never have to upgrade for like 10 years or to just be able to brag that you have an extremely powerful Mac that could qualify as a supercomputer?

  • NO!

  • Erm... so what is it then?

  • :/

    erm... BLARG!!!!

  • RAGGLE-FRAGGLE!!!

    @_@

I love the beautiful "G5" inscribed on the side. It's very pretty.

  • yup, but now with Steve Jobs after his keynote, i feel dirty... MacBook Air??!?!? a £1,000+ which could be out performed by a £699 MacBook. I don't get that :S

  • the point of the macbook air isn't to have a super powerful machine; it's to have an ultra mobile machine.

and btw, with the SSD option it probably will perform the macbook in some disk related tasks, since flash is faster than a traditional hard drive.

this was a funny video! although you were a bit off of your explanation as to why ram has to be installed in matched pairs ;) i think i shall subscribe to you.

  • 16 GIGS through a Mac Pro.

  • actually its 32gb on a macpro apple say 16gb but its 32gb officially

  • actually apple say 32GB now.. they even offer it in their configuration.

  • it comes with configurations up to 32GB of Apple RAM because that's the max. that Apple sells but it handles up to 64GB of RAM and both the Power Mac G5 and Mac Pro could go to 16GB of RAM only

  • thats on the newer models

the one that he has has a max of 16gb

  • thats a G5 totally different from a mac pro uses PowerPC G5 chips were as the mac pro uses intel xeons

  • love your mac and your vid thnx for posting

  • Where did you get your keyboard keys/stickers?

    They look useful for FCP!

  • i think g5s only suport 8 gbs

  • they support unlimited, but there are only a few ports on the motherboard, so technically, yes you are limited.

  • the dual CORE took upto 16 gig of ram using 2gb ram cards but the dual PROCESSOR only took 1gb cards so the max they took was 8gb i think...

  • dude you should play World of warcraft

  • whats the full specs on your system

  • top secret...

  • lol ok you enjoy your ff class machine

  • Go to barber... next to gym

  • Learn grammar before you comment on my videos...

  • 5 minuts to install ram is a long time btw, PCs is just pop open door pop the ram out then pop the new stuff in... takes like 60 seconds,

  • well, i did make this when i saw still nervous about doing stuff to my mac. Now I do upgrades in the blink of an eye...

  • sweet, worst thing to install is a cpu heatsink, there a bitch to get onto the motherboard

  • ahh, thats a handy thing 2 know... thx

  • lol, look at his keyboard...

    nice Mac.......

4.5 GB of RAM is a shit load of Mac Power

  • the keyobard has special coloured keys for programmes like final cut and Logic

  • try 16GB (which only a mac can understand. Wierd how windows only see's 4GB of RAM)

  • man, 32GB on the xServe...

  • you can get 32gb on a mac pro but not though apple

  • actually yes you can get 32 gigs on a mac pro through apple.

  • nice vid but lol most of the time pcs dont have freaking plastic in the way of the motherboard!? lol

  • that plastic tray is very important, it's so when we mac users have guests we can serve the Tea in an elegant solution...

  • yeah lol!!!

  • For 4.5 GB of Ram that was slow. My 6 years old Dell with 768 MB of Ram opens more programs then that in half the time. Then, again it is also a PC so there may be a difference. I may be getting an old G3 to try MAC out and see if I like it though.

  • well the G3 are fun little things, just don't expect them to be quick or play youtube videos very well

  • No, in fact the main reason I wanted it besides to test out Mac OS was to browse the net while playing games on my main PC. So I don't have to alt tab much. It gets annoying. Yeah I wasn't expecting much.

  • older pc programes were much simpler, also, the programe he opened was pretty big.

  • Ahh well on 4.5 GB of RAM he should be doing something. Heh, My Dell with 786 MB of ram is older or as old as this G5. I'd day older. I play recent games, use recent programs, etc.. With no problems. But like I said don't know a bunch about Macs at this point.

  • with my experience, pc's are faster to open apps, but app performance is slower.

  • like most things, it depends on the build of the system. And the reason apple computers are so much money, is because they only sell top of the line things. Infact, the judge it on if Steve Jobs doesnt want it on his desk, they wont sell it! So if you try to compare a say mac and a dell, with exact same specs, the dell will probably be more expensive.

  • also, the more core you have the slower each core is. that is why a dual core cpu at 2.0 ghz isnt twice as fast as a single core at 2.0 ghz. also, since the cores are so close together, its harder to cool it, so a dual core cpu at 2.0 ghz is about as fast as a single core cpu at 3.2-3.6 ghz.
