Considering the natural light shot is by far the most appealing and flattering to the model.

Mixing flash with ambient can produce very nice results. This is def. NOT how to do it.

You can minimize the shadow on the background by moving the model away from the background so that her shadow is not cast on the background. You can pose the model so that she uses the ambient or a flash as the main light. Her eyes should and nose should be looking at the main light. You can eliminate the shadows from her nose by doing this.
