To think that he has a physical advantage is nuts. His advantage comes from hard work and creatively finding novel ways to succeed given his particular circumstances.
I heard about this guy and before I watched this video I could not even imagine how a quad amputee could pin someone in a wrestling match. That takes a lot of skill! Complete respect!
i have serious respect i wrestle to and i used to always say i cant until coach told me to look up dustin carter and since then i havent said i cant agian and all my respect goes out to dustin ... keep kickin ass
Surprisingly, he has a huge advantage in that he's used to wrestling people with limbs, but hardly anyone is used to wrestling someone with none. How do you arm bar an amputee? Same with blind wrestlers. Especially because you'll probably try to go easy on them at first expecting an easy fight. Big mistake.
He's still at a bigger disadvantage though and it's really cool he's managed to do this.
@dentonens9 i wrestle too...and where im from we called it a bar arm...everyone i know and talked too about wrestling has called it a bar arm and double bars ..different areas different names i guess
Wow! thats truly amazing.. here I am being all lazy and thinking I cant do it, yet look at him.. I got more chances than him yet im here watching shit on my computer D:
He has a Disatvantage and a avantage, He has the build of a Man of about 160+lbs. he is a built man! I wrestled a Kid here in Michigan Named Travis Farmer form South Lyon, I was 160lbs and If he had both legs he would have been around 215lbs + Tough kid, never shoot on a dude with one leg, go for the throw and you should be ok. It worked for me.
@garymangarrett maybe if u would have read the post i was referring too you would understand why i called him an amputee instead of jumping to conclusions especially when im supporting him
@Aspartan3 Probably not, but that really doesn't have anything to do with anything. I'm not denying him is right to wrestle, the truth is that I just don't care whether he wrestles or not.
And of all the comments here, you choose my 5 month old comment to reply to. I don't get it.
2 mile run w/ ungodly amounts of stadiums and sprinting, then we jog/sprint some more combined with various exercises for strength. Then live situational wrestling, learn techniques, live wrestling, cool down then we go home. Then, if we have to cut weight, some of us don't get to eat when we go home.
Not to mention all of us took a weight lifting class everyday.
@deemon16 lol professional hockey players do alot more then that, first of all they have 3-4 games a week, they practice at least 5 times a week, sometimes twice a day, most hockey players do an hour of cardio before and after the game, most likely the same for practice, they have weightlifting rooms in arenas, they do that at least 4 times a week. not too mention the work out with at least 30 lbs of equipment on. not too mention there personal workouts done without the team
it seems to me from watching this video that him not having arms and legs gives him somewhat of an advantage wrestling in that his opponent has little to grab on to and he can easily escape from underneath and get the opponents back, but the disadvantages probably even out the advantage of having little to no limbs
got to respect the guys courage though
And fuck all you haters; go do something with your able bodied lives instead of making fun of a guy who can't help being the way he is
@Easy11019 Not to mention that without the weight of his arms and legs, he is wrestling fighters that would normally be smaller then him in terms of size and weight. You can see that his core is really strong compared to the other kids.
@Easy11019 you also didnt mention how wrestling is a weight sport... maynard has to be the same weight as his oponent.. so then he is smaller, more compact, muchhhh more stronger than his oponents, and harder to lift
yeah i agree but seriously... that dude pushes the limit of wrestling AND jujitsu. people say his wrestling is a fluke because of what you said, but hes won a shit load of juijitsu fights... which says a lot
lol its impressive how mobile n strong he is but this shit is ridiculous watch his mma fight his opponent spends 2 minutes sizing him up like he doesnt want to get caught with a big punch lol he has to know ppl r just taking it easy so wuts the point....just fucking power bomb him and end the fight
you are absolutely incorrect i went to highschool with him i didnt even like him but he was a ridiculously good wrestler... and shame on all you haters most of yall would be living with your parents getting handfed in a wheelchair your whole lives i think hes impressive
Well, I think we all know what we would do if in a fight with Kyle, but I think the dude has a big heart and the never give up attitude I wish all pro athletes had. Good for you Kyle!!
well if you wrestled for any length of time i would hope so! i commend anyone whos lived the wrestler lifestyle its not what happens on the mat its the diet cutting weight constant cardio and live wrestling all the work that goes in the match is just the reflecton of practice i tore my hammy one year and couldnt get in shape to go 6 min because i couldnt run he deals with shortcomings everyday how do you measure strength? by winning the match?
he is MMA fighter?...give me abreak....all he need is a slap in the head to wake him up...lmao...how could call that MMA fighting but no kicking or hitting in the head....what a joke!!!
same thing for BJJ. you can't use any armbars, kimuras, americanas, leglocks, triangle chokes, d'arce chokes, head and arm triangle chokes, or anaconda chokes.
you can really only use the rear naked choke or a guillotine choke. that's about it
It's great that you know the name of many different submissions but I think you may not know what a few of them are.
Head and arm triangle can be done to these dudes. It doesn't require anything beyond the shoulder. Same deal with the anaconda, darce, and triangles. All you are doing is locking his shoulder and neck. They have shoulders, they have arms down to the elbow.
i've been training MMA for the last 6 years btw, wai kru mma in allston, boston muay thai and kimura bjj in newtonville, ma, as well as some judo. how do you figure without the an arm shoulder subs will stay in place? particuly with a wrestler of his caliber. go watch the dude grapple @ NAGAs. he got caught with a triangle choke in a scramble and EASILY slipped out, not with technique, but it just didn't work. this leads me to believe katagatames, d'arces and anacondas won't work either.
seeing as though the triangle choke didn't work against him, and the triangle choke, katagatame, d'arce and anaconda all focus on compressing the deltoid muscle into strangling the carotid artery, i don't see how any of them would work. maybe on a low level grappler, and even then i think it would be rather easy for them to slip out, but not on this kind of grappler. maybe next time you should just put your argument out there, as a opposed to questioning rather or not i know my subs.
Yeah, it's inspirational and all that, but the fact is for a sport like wrestling I wouldn't even say he's at a disadvantage. His nubs are just long enough to give him leverage without being advantageous for his opponent.
