  • still not in shop

  • Maybe oled tec could fix his screen for indoor and outdoor, since there is no backlight at all, anyway best of luck to him

  • Papa made me laugh a lot. I love my parents very much.

  • Dear Journal.

Today was a very fun day. At school I learned multiplication and the teacher called on me to answer many questions. At lunch I played with my friends and we found a bird that was hurt. We took the bird to the nurse and she said it had a broken wing. I hope it gets better soon.

In science class I learned about solar energy. We used our computers to go on the internet and find pictures of solar panels. They looked really neat.

The dinner Mama made tonight was very delicious.

  • I'm waiting.....

  • for kids??? are you kiding me? seriously kids sould remain at colouring with real pens not play on a frickin 600 euros tab for colouring or reading -_-

  • Print in out on a 3D printer

  • 0:52 i Want one!!!!

  • I thought they were going to prohibit laptops for children! Where will it end? Do we have to pollute those lucky PC-less bastards in developing countries now? They were supposed to evolve in the proper sense and show US the way!

  • Its 2012 now where are they? :D

  • its 2012!!!guys where are u???

  • IT IS 2012 o.O

  • @kurdoskurd1992 it is 2012 now. where are they? ☻

  • @kurdoskurd1992 now its 2012 still no sign....

  • That's the prototype. Wikipedia says the XO-3 will be sold for less than 100 USD this year.

  • @kurdoskurd1992 2012 XD

  • @kurdoskurd1992

    2012*

People need an education too. Without an education they will always stay poor.

  • @grivas2007 there were ones things .... which where called books?

  • Apparently this tablet is debuting over CES

  • @kurdoskurd1992 now 2012

  • How MANY OF THESE KIDS CAN POST COMMENTS ON YOU TUBE LIKE YOU AT THIS MOMENT??? IF POVERTY AND IGNORANCE IS A BLISS THEN JUST ONE, ONLY ONE OF THESE KIDS ARE MUCH HAPPIER THAN ALL OF YOU IN HERE. SO FUCKING TRUE !!! WHEN EDUCATION BECAME A PRIVILLEGE FOR THE FEW ? AND BELEIVE ME IF NEGREPONTE COULD, HE WOULD GIVE HIS LAPTOP FOR FREE!! AND IF YOU CARE SO MUCH ABOUT THEIR HUNGER DONATE THE 75$ TO A POOR CHILD!! BUT YOU WONT...

  • Racist Nick Negroponte wont give me one of these cuz im not black or brown.

  • Unbreakable, but how about recycling ??

  • tablets are for sheep mode.

why not give them a proper keyboard like intelligent people use.

we are talking about bringing them out of the stone age, not making them look pretentious at starbucks.

and if they don't know how to be indoors they don't know how to take care of a delicate computer.

  • its 2012 now where are they?

  • counting: 2012

  • Who pays for this? Also, most devices are only as good as content (connectivity). These things need a plan for connectivity and content development. Just because you\t give a plate to someone you are mistaken to expect food to magically appear on it everyday.

  • wow they are having trouble making it a gameboy sp

  • One iPad per child would be better

  • @GrizzlyChampion99 No it wouldn't. Easier to break than a solid tablet (might be thicker/heavier, but still not all glass)

  • This guys an idiot... 75 bucks?

  • @ZafreKazi No, your just ignorant and stupid. 75 Dollars, quite possible

  • Can i watch porn on this?

  • his idea sounds nice and all, but if he has money to give all this stuff to poor kids, wouldnt it be better for the kids to get food instead? I'm not going to search stuff on google if im hungry

  • @quebecsamurai knowledge = food

  • @BloodyNeighbor hell, i got a school-issued laptop for high school (started highschool about 8 years ago). technology is moving up

  • Yet another fail, yayyy.

  • maybe in ten years ....

  • How are they supposed to charge it, they have limited electricity

  • @Gridlock585 Solar panels or muscle power, or just charge it from the 'grid' when it's not too limited, like they already do with cellphones in these regions. A device like this can't be very power-hungry anyway if it's gonna work.

  • pretty soon you will be able to roll tablets up and put them in your pocket

  • I'd buy it!

  • what!? wait.. each of those kids at the end had a pony?.. and a laptop too?.. i had a shitty childhood!

  • WTF WTF!!! it looks like WTF so cool :o

  • Porn

  • I waited like 2 years for my nintendo to play super mario bros 2,now they are getting ultra slim hi tech tablets, wow

  • remember what kids use to do for fun it was something called the swings

  • @ImTheMan725

fun? this isnt about fun! did you lear to read and write, how to look after yourself from swings!

  • Kids outdoors using a laptop , kids using laptops to learn. learn what ask google ? this is imoral. Outdoors is for mountain bikes and mud, parks and playgrounds. Talk about misguided.

  • fuck sake, they havent done good laptop with good display in sun, in whatever price category, now they want to do it with 70 dollars.

  • That's just plain ugly!

  • when will we see transfilm solar sheets intergrated into the screen or outer casing for phones and laptops making them able to work off the mains technologu has been out for years even my casio watch has it built in ??

  • This is going to be a disaster . our children will be destroyed by this. we are going down a road of destruction. Tech is going to far. let the children be children and play for fuck sake.

  • Education is the key.

Open doors and minds to do other things.

Just feed the kids is not the answer. They continuous poverty.

With the Education cames the healty, food, dignify lifes.

I´m from Brasil, South America, and the Education here is not the priority.

The Bolsa Familia, government assistence, is.

The population still sick and dumb.

    Think about that.

  • This invention is real already. It is called a Palm Pilot. They stopped making them when people actually started programming them to do all this and more.

That and they raped themselves with stupid cell phone craze.

  • mmm i just watched this i wonder if is already a reality

  • If we give them these then they can order food on the go!!! jeez guys think about it! :P

  • God damn dumbass these childern need food!

    Not these worthless gadgets!

    Food dumbass! FOOD

  • its 1 year late nd i havnt cn a spec of it in markets yet! >:(

  • if you pause it at exactly 45 seconds. it looks like he's having a stroke.

  • @LordNeb u r my hero

  • Stop pissing on the market and meddling aid with big buisiness!

You have managed to turn non-proffit into a huge buisiness while at the same time the evidence of kids being actually helped have dissappeared in the hype!

Also, stop copying Apple, it's just a design-thing, it is NOT more useable, nor is it more intuitive. And it's definately not better for educating and teaching. GROWL...

  • @1kreature wrong.

  • Negropontism at its best! Why so careful to stress first access to the tablet in the "developed" world, when the really crappy OLPC devices have been/continue to be ditched in "developing" countries! As the original Zucker view - OLPC + children + *miracle* = empowerment remains simply that - negropontism is a delusion of grandeur!

  • My future children must have one!..

  • the problem with his perspective is that it will be dropped, stepped on,thrown, and the ring will be chewed on.

  • it would be incredible if they can keep all their promises. however considering the components mentioned it costs a lot more tan $75. also it doesn't seem to have any ports at all ( power , usb ).

far fetched if you ask me, but still looking forward for results

  • Great idea, they could fund themselves better if they sold them for 200 to the public, that's still a way better price than the iPad

  • GUYS, use MakerBots. ie, Cheap community open source automated 3d printers! The first company to do crowd sourced manufacturing too because the makerbot is mostly self replicatable. replicable?

  • @bbglas007 makebot is a toy dude. not for serious stuff and certainly not for optimized mass production

  • @DanFrederiksen It's certainly progress and there are many variations now, like the 3d printr and the ultimaker that would be more up to the task (if it were automated). As well as the benefit of an existing community to potentially help in such a project, there are always improvements and hacks coming out. An open source environment to an open source device, it only makes sense right? Why use a closed source model? Call it a toy if you want, but the potential is unlimited.

  • @bbglas007 3d printing has huge potential but today it's just not anywhere near the best option for mass production. when you have someone like foxconn doing your production makerbot is just not an alternative.

  • these kids dont need computers they need food

  • 75 buck i get one that good price for a little computer

  • "and you may say i'm a dreamer" . . .

  • keep pressing 7 to givet he guy a tik.

  • hold "5" to give the guy a seizure

  • so...basicly kids in another country are getting laptops when there 5 and im not allowed to get one till i buy it myself...ok.

  • @DaMasterSarge: The OLPC, that's One Laptop Per Child, was thought up to give needy children access to today's technology. You have access to a computer while children in impoverished nations are lucky to get clean drinking water. Why complain?

  • I have an iPad are these better and how long has tablet been around?

  • @BloodyNeighbor Laptop??? Back in my day we were lucky to get a pencil that wasn't broken

  • We did it the other way round. We have one child per laptop.

    Great work. Keep it up!

  • easy to say any think you want but >> very hard to do !!

  • where and when can you buy this?

  • They should make it solar powered as well for the people living without electricity.

  • I really can not wait for these to come as B1G1.

  • this is amazing 10 years ago at their age i used to collect pokeman cards, now they get this and more. hehe i wonder whats next ?

  • and thas there vision one laptop per child! times 2 billion times 70 $!

  • not ipad fan butt...he said we want it to be n ipad/kindle/laptop....all that is an ipad u dumass.......

  • sirve como cualquier pc o que desventajas tiene???

  • xo3 looks more far fetched than xo2

  • i could do a better "render" in ascii

  • If you can get an Indian student tablet at $35 subsidized ($65 total) running an 633mHz. Then expect this to be as faster than it should be. I hope they start shifting their apps to HTML5 (offline). I see this working extremely efficiently with a Chrome OS backend and an HTML 5 interface.

  • Dont forget to teach children basics i.e. 5x12+7 ...etc otherwise they would be useless without these gadgets...

  • This tablet blows apples new thing-a-ma-gig out of the water. Heck, for $70 a pop I'll buy two!

  • anybody remember oragon trail on the apple 2?

  • How do you recharge this thing in places where they don't have electricity? This thing needs solar panel. 75$ price point? Yeah right

  • @WideSplit

the original XO-1 has an optional solar panel for $10 each and includes a hand crank recharger

  • @BloodyNeighbor

Back in 2004/2005 school year, when i went to 9th grade, the middle school that i went to just started getting free laptops for all the kids to keep throughout the school year. If i was a year younger i would have gotten them. My sister who is 2 years younger than me was part of the laptop program funded by NASA

  • $70 I would buy in a heartbeat, and if it is truely as he describes it, open source, screen works in sun and with normal backlight, arm cpu, it would be a dream tablet. The only other thing is battery life, I know arm cpus use almost no power but I would at least want it to compete with the ipad. I would also pay more, much more for a version with a tegra chip or high end snapdragon.

  • @Imprezaman555 Fucking consumer...

  • @Givarius ???

  • @Imprezaman555 Srry man, i didn't mean it personal but i just want you to open your eyes to your surroundings instead of only focussing on the material aspects of life. Please open your mind, life isn't all about what shit you can buy. We can and must make this world a better place. Thank you

  • @Givarius I know that material good only make up a small part of our quality of life, but can't we enjoy them as well? I don't mean to say that I would buy this and then center my life around it or other material possessions but it is something that I think would improve my life, albeit probably only in smaller ways. Consuming is a good thing if done responsibly. Not buying for the sake of buying but buying because we believe what we are buying will improve our lives in some way.

  • this is simply amazing! all plastic!

  • i would reall enjoy getting this but i wanna get a net book better cuz its sooner thats comes out in 2012 i would like to get it for my bday

  • @kaylacat11 This comes out in 2011, lol

  • i think india is coming up with a $10 disposable tablet PC. from what I hear, the team at IIT(indian institute of technology-the MIT equivalent!) have prototypes already.

  • India announced creating a tablet PC for 35$..

  • i still dont have a laptop... im a child..

  • Lucky Kids!

  • thats nice for those poor kids but i dont even see kids here in usa with laptops at school

  • @anilraj420 So? They aren't subject to extreme poverty, most likely they have a computer at home that they don't even know how to use. Hell I was doing BASIC when I was in 2nd grade, and 5th graders can't figure out how to make a simple spreadsheet? The current generation n the USA are spoiled brats who are hopeless.

  • the day i see a touch screen slate of 75 dollors idk pigs will fly

  • @asdf36254

    Solar powered maybe?

  • So 150$? That's cheaper than the last one!

  • i dunno if this is actually right.. i mean an african kid will have this "toy" with android OS and i look at android devices like that kid looks at santa.. i mean.. this should be on market too.. why not?:/

  • ZENSORSHIP get over it!!

  • i buying it with all the money im saving up to buy a ipad

  • IMHO it's quite racist to show a black boy and then announce: "We need more time because we have to make it in UNBREAKABLE plastic so that those kids cannot break it". And showing the black boy again! as if African people were less capable of handling sophisticated technology?

  • @zensorship

    whats IMHO mean?

  • @planes3333

IMHO = in my humble opinion

  • @zensorship

    ahhhh thanks

  • pardon my ignorance why do they need laptops may some one inform me on what is going on

  • @nooloo3000 for the same reason that you have one. why would you be able to have a pc and not them?

  • If such a device is to be made, I swear to god, 2012 is as real as my one night stand with Kim Kardashian.

  • Those age inappropriate orange/ amber glasses scream "Strange-O" in need of a serious make-over. Good grief!

  • linux!!!! YEs!!

  • lol thats CROATIA on the map up there :D :D ..... cheers form croatia

  • make this tablet quickly! i salute this guys who r making effort to produce cheap but helpful machines and gadget... like netbook, a lot of poor people from poor country cant buy laptop, but bcoz of ths, ordinary people can enjoy things that only rich people can have before...

  • Now that's cool, I just don't like it's Linux, the google android would be a lot cooler in my opinion

  • Is it just me, or does the design seem a little unrealistic? (Maybe I'm stuck in the 00's...)

  • @Esperantanaso im right there with you lol

  • @Esperantanaso

why does it seem unrealistic. Technology is moving foward, man...welcome to the new world

  • Hey, look guys! It's that computer we keep dumping on third world countries, rather than food or medical aid! I'm amazed their governments haven't caught on yet.

They'll be able to look things up on Wikipedia, and at the same time continue starving to death. Ahahahaha.

  • @NotASocialCommentary your a freaking dum-bass

  • @NotASocialCommentary Hey look guys! It's someone writing a comment on youtube about not helping, while he sits at home..doing nothing. Ahahahaha. Shutup. Are you saying, just because they don't have food, they can't have any entertainment? Sure they could use the money for food, but an education is also important. Also, it's going to be more like a 75$ computer for a class. 75$ would feed a child for maybe a month. While this useless computer will be used for years and help the child.

  • @WonderfulMrShyne

Exactly, most(if not all) of the worlds problems at the core are the result of people feeling that things "are just the way they are." Education, more specifically access to a growing knowledge base and concept such as the internet, is the key to a prosperous society.

Once people catch up to how great a tool the internet is, we'll see a new age of pwnage and freedom :D.

  • @TheMusicBucket Because Sugar/OLPC/XO will totally fix that fucking problem. Guess what kid, you can't learn shit if you're starving to death, your family is dying of disease, and there's a civil war going on next door.

Some people just love to drink the FOSS Kool-Aid, but have no real solutions to real world problems. Also, while giving new technology to schools would help schools, wouldn't you consider the fact that their education system has been fucked for the last 20 years or so?

  • @NotASocialCommentary

I'm finding it difficult to conceptualize the premises that you are basing your thought pattern on. I don't see how anything I've said reflects a lack of understanding of the problems you see yourself as being so well-versed in.

It's one thing to be upfront with your convictions, but I don't see how what you're saying here is moving towards solving the problems of third world countries, let alone contributing to a mature conversation ;).

  • @NotASocialCommentary

damn, finally another person who can critically analyze the FACTS. man (or woman), i hear you. we need to change socially before we begin to accept and take full advantage our technological reality. also, i can understand that you may be angry, but try and hold off on emotion when it comes to practical matters, such as reforming or criticizing the educational system. it's better to just bridge the difference with those who you have a tendency to "terrorize".

  • @WonderfulMrShyne Because medical supplies, food, and shelter is not enough, and rehauling their education system to actually work is too much, we give them shit laptops with an interface that has no practical use for when they're adults. Granted, they'll learn a little python in such a way that C64 kids learned BASIC and developed a hobby, but let's be honest. A third world country full of disease, famine, and bloodshed is treated with a sub-par computer?

  • He is stupid.

  • Suck on this iPad !

  • What about a BREAD for a child? Giving a computer to each child is too expensive. Why are we doing this in the middle of a crisis? And remember each year you have to give new computers.

  • lets do this!!

  • More good news for Linux and open source software!

  • these guys are just wonderful people

  • how fast will this thing bee

  • where can u buy one once they come out

  • That is so awesome!

  • @QuantumQuacks I totally agree, I think apprenticeships should come back in style. Most colleges care more about money than actually preparing their students for the field. However I worked hard during my school years and I never took one single loan out, so I'm not in debt :) My colleagues are a different story however.

  • @QuantumQuacks What exactly do you mean "A grade in History"? Are you trying to say its not Important? Because it actually is.

  • wtf, our kids dont even have laptops in their schools and u want to give a bunch of dumb african children tablets?

  • @exaurius asshole

  • @yugiohonline26 Whi is he an asshole?

  • @creanus he hate black people

  • @exaurius Did your mother not teach you how to share?

  • how come i cant get one?

  • Whaaaaat???
