That is not a flatbed. There is no such thing as a flatbed mini. That is a standard mini with a cut rear. The only model similar to that is the Mini Pickup but the cargo box is bigger and squarer.

Morris may have built the original, but it changed to British Leyland and then onto rover.

A morris version would have external door hinges, this one is definitely a modified version! Flatbeds were available, but had much longer beds (think mini estate with a flat bed) this is the standard mini saloon with heavy modification

Proper Mini pickups are really rare these days, as are the similar vans, both based on the longer Countryman shell. Most old Minis rusted out years ago. (The two I had in my youth did!!) Other mad mods include Suzuki Santana 4x4 chassis, Vauxhall 2.0 16v 'redtop' or motorbike engines. I even knew a guy who cut a Ford XR4x4 and put it in a Mini shell. lol. Check out the various Mini owners clubs' websites/annual shows, these cars have a cult following to rival the Beetle...

Further to the 'what is it?' debate, full marks to the peeps who correctly identified it as a regular mk3 mini with the rear panels removed. Early ninties I'd guess. Aftermarket Cooper type grille, minilite type wheels. Notice the door and boot handles are black, not chrome as on Coopers. This sort of mod was quite common where I'm from, and some people leave the rear seats in for a convertible effect. Some even cut out most of the roof above the front seats.

Real Mini Coopers (and Cooper S) are the sports version of the Mini. The 'Type R' of Minis if you will.

You can easily spot a Cooper (or Cooper S) because they have white bonnet straps and fog lights. The later ones also have the Cooper logo on the 3/4 panel. They stopped making them in 2000.

This of course has nothing to do with the 'New Mini' which is made by BMW, is butt-fugly, too big, overpriced and driven by hairdressers everywhere.
