  • Andrew Sullivan says that Michelle Bachmann's husband reminds him of Corky.

  • @elroberytojufa

    Learn English maybe?

  • duh-rama

  • Mr. G from Summer Heights High owes a lot to this character.

  • @kevonmartini10 soooooooo true although both are hilarious in their own right

  • "You know, that sweeping sort of hat"

  • If you don't find this movie absolutely hilarious, chances are that I won't like you very much.

  • shitt.....i wish watch movie in spanish because im mexican help meeeee i dont no do!!!!

  • With the Chaps??????? LOL!

  • Genius!

  • Omg, its Mr G!!!

  • OK, then there is Michael Hitchcock who plays the City Councilman who wants Corky so bad he can taste it. I love the restraint used in that regard...

  • everybody's all about the chaps but it's "you know that sweeping sort of hat" that does it for me.

  • just love this.

  • my husband and I bonded on our third date watching this movie 10 years ago. I'd told him about it over the phone and (we lived 400 miles apart) brought a VCR on the trip when we met so that we could watch this in my hotel room.

  • lol...that is the ugliest shirt I have ever seen in my entire life..

  • "Because you're Bastard people"!

  • I love how Corky is "married". This was genious...

  • @in2food I was shopping for my wife Bonnie......I buy most of her clothes

    LOL!!

  • with the chaps! ha ha

  • "...with the chaps" lol and look he gives when he says that is priceless

  • "I offered my services to the high school here, and they accepted"

  • My favorite line in the movie:

With that hard hat, you know that sweeping sort of hat...............umm........with the chaps

Spinal Tap is still my favorite Guest move (tho he didnt direct it) but this is a very close second. Pure brilliance from start to finish...even the ending credits

Remains of the Day lunchbox? C'mon...for that alone this movie deserves a place on my shelf

  • I love the expression on his face when he's talking about the chaps!

  • Everybody dance!

  • "...but that didn't really work out."

    lol

  • Chris is wearing the "Buddy Guy Silk Pajamas".

  • "tht sort of sweeping hat.." LOL

  • He looks like a gay BTK.

  • who is btk?

  • oh never mind... he is that killer. nm

  • ...and the chaps

  • I actually feel a little bad for anyone who hasn't seen any of the Christopher Guest films...... it's just this void in their lives that they don't know they have yet

  • or even worse, those that have seen his films and don't see the appeal. They actually do exist and it must suck to not have a sense of humor.

  • They're movie virgins and they don't know it.

  • I agree, but only applying it to those who would get the humour. This stuff's lost on most people.

  • One of the funniest movies ever made

  • I think Corkys referring to the" Village People."

  • He looks like he's 'fantasizing' as he speaks of the construction worker job. So funny

  • love this movie.

  • EXCELLENT MOVIE!!

  • I love the expression on his face when he says "...and the chaps..."

  • i love the american people i am english!

  • Sweeping hat and chaps OMG!!!

  • sow!! christopher guest....always a genius!! so funny!!!

  • What a character...what a film!

  • oh my god... hilarious

  • The 'sweeping sort of hat' bit KILLED me! OMG

  • I'm going to go home and bit my pillow. That's what I'm gonna do. The Mayor is so awesome in this movie.

  • this movie is hysterical. These actors are very talented the whole movie is basically improv.

  • Oh please. It's not "superficiality of Americans" that his movies are portraying. Rather the insanity and unintended hilariousness of people everywhere.

    Enjoy it!

  • yeah, that's a positive point of view, but in France we are are not allowed to laugh for insanity, oure comedy are so sweet and gentle (bienvenue chez les ch'ti ; amelie poulain)...

But I agree to your point of view, the end of this film and pretty hilarious and sad (yet) :)

  • I think there's superficiality in a lot of the characters in his movies. They basically poke fun at the AVERAGE people in the world. The ones who have no idea how they're coming off or how little they actually know... or how seriously they take their silly jobs or lives. It's hard to say but they take mediocrity and crank it to the highest volume. It's hilarious.

  • 1st..My post was referring to the superficiality of Americans comment. These films aren't pointing out anything American specific. In fact, the first film(Spinal Tap)was British characters.

2nd...We evidently define superficial differently. To me, the characters in these films are completely unaware of their quirks and actually believe they are enormously gifted. That's not superficial-That's Super Idiotic(in the nicest sense of the word).

  • 1 st : I agree, it's more a universal vision. I didn't know that Spinal Tap was british !

2 st : yes but for example you take a Laurel and Hardy, there are under you intelligence level, so you can laugh (if you like)

Here, there is no pity so you take the reflect of your life (well i hope less exagerate), and you do what you want with it...and there is someting limited

  • how could you not know that Spinal Tap was British characters? Wow...

  • yeah well except the accent, but I didn't remember others references,

  • it was making fun of the excesses and stupidity of heavy metal bands, mostly British ones. It's unfortunate that people such as yourself have to view everything through a lens of anti-Americanism instead of just appreciating it for what is, a good comedy without any political overtones

  • I just want to understand the mechanism of this type of comedy and it just don't make me so laugh but it was exagerate to say that he hates everyone in his film.

The thing is, there is something which is too easy and light and that's all.

  • the concept is really hilarious, but in cnsequence it's so empty too ! you can't always laugh, because it's realistic...

Just like the others like "mighty wind" or "for your consideration", there is sadness because of pointing and following each corner of their live and that's an empty glass

  • I would respond to this, but I have no idea what it is you are trying to say. "Too roose"? wtf?

  • ppff i even don't even remember where I pick this word (fucking dictionnary, made in poland)...I meant cynical. I have seen this movie twice...and it's very cool to see the same groupe of friends playing in thoses films...but, that's going anywhere, big jokes only.

  • I see what you're saying now. At least your English is better than my French!

  • my english is better than my french

  • As a lifelong theatre actor, this movie is great/hard to watch- simply because it is so (sadly) accurate of community theatre. I've had to work for a few Corky St. Clairs before

  • he is exactly like mr g on summer heights high (except mr g is cooler)

if you want to compare him to mr g write down summer heights high.

  • oh my god your right!!!

  • oh my god your right!!!

  • oh my god your right!!!

  • with that sweeping sort of hat...

  • i know, i know...it just kills me...

  • "With the chaps"!!!!!!! Hilarious!

  • Corky St. Claire is a theatre genious!

  • hahahahah thank you this scene will live on forever in my head

  • What a character...what a film!

  • una bolita mas a tu chamarra y no mames se vería ridicula...

  • His best. I laugh every time I see it.

  • absolutely the best.

  • MR. KUNTOR!!!!!!!

  • Brilliant!

  • He's a genius.

  • lmao XD

  • that sweeping sort of hat

  • Christopher Guest can do anything he's freakin awesome

  • Dr Pearl and his wife are far the best!!!

  • Nice shirt.

  • That sweeping sort of hat...and the chaps!

  • ...with the chaps.

  • Christopher Guest is a comedic genius

  • sweeping hat, and chaps, hahahaha! I love it!

  • I can't decide if Corky or Nigel is my favorite Guest character. I just can't do it!

  • I know right??? :D They both are like icons...have you seen him in Second City with Martin Short in the synchronized swimming skit? It's like a "pre-Corky"...we get a glimmer of what's to come!

  • Go rent SPINAL TAP for a great role he was in.

  • He's hilarious!

  • 'the sweeping kind of hat..'
