  • Such a nice awesome guy and great bassist!

  • I love his happy face every time he ends a doodle with harmonics, looking up at mr. Jemmott.

  • aburrido

  • Fresh set of RotoSound Strings!!!!!! on a precision neck!!!!!!

  • So, so sexy.

  • Man just transcribe this interview into a book and call it the bass bible. That interviewer is a cool cat too

  • @emittscool Luckily, they did that with the original release of this tape :) If you google "Modern Electric Bass Jaco Pastorius PDF" you will find lots of sites that have the book to view online.

  • who is the host?

  • @yetter714 jerry jemmott, a pretty well-known session bassist

  • what idiot can dislike a video like this??

  • what idiot can dislike a video like this??

  • Jaco is a genius, hola!

  • when I watch Jaco play, I know why I picked the BASS

  • He was really a genius!

  • man, he makes that stuff look so easy "know what im sayin"

  • anyone know the date of this video?

  • @cliffdimerandy 1986 my teacher told me it was 6 months before he died.

  • @jryuwah

Real bummer man..That cat should have lived and kept doing bass!

  • i want that black dudes bass! id suck that zit off his forehead for that bass!

  • The man was incredible!!

  • Dammit, the host stole my idea for a bass head!

  • My Hero!

  • for you bass dudes, might be worth checking out the bill evans video. i think its called 'music the universal language' or something

  • what impressed me the most was that he basically is just telling people that need to put in the time. no magic. just lots and lots of work. play. i'm a piano guy but i love this video

  • ???????at min 7:56 he says i dont know WTF am I playn? hahahahaha chido

  • @joelcasillasfrias

correction: "I don't even know if I can do it anymore"

  • thxn ur rite!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • best musical interview I've seen in a long time i think

  • was and will be unique! by crazier than has been

  • JACO will always be world's best bass player & teacher!

  • what music is the exercice 8 ???

  • Awesome interview....

I got a knife out and removed the frets..LOL

    Jaco... RIP..!! We miss you.....

  • Too bad he lied.

Later interviews he admits he bought the bass as is.

  • jaco had crazy big hands. he would have been a killer upright player

  • He had an upright.. but it blew up on him apparently according to him lol

  • he didnt mean exploded. he meant the humidity cracked the bass (rendering it useless)

  • haha he says "you know what im sayin?" alot, i dig it

  • Dam Jacos bass has a nice tone!

  • the harmonic chord at 3:30! They use that on Charlie Sheen's Tv show!! lol!!

  • @willbass82 You mean Two and a Half Men?

  • JACO = PERFECTION!

  • I was wearing a beret most of last year because of him and it was really cool.

  • Maybe for you it was cool... :)

  • Love the Word of Mouth quote @ 8:33.

  • yeahhhhhhhhh

  • 2:05 Rush Xanadu. Love Jaco.

  • Good call!

  • Haha thanks! I love me some Rush.

  • @edthehead83 kinda, its just a scale and hes playing it in C major instead of E dominate, but the same principles still apply lol.

  • hes probably clucking for his next hit.. :(

  • Yeah relaxlu he's doing that im the greatest bass player that ever lived drug... I wish i could get me some too...

  • I am not sure whats more tragic: losing him so early in his life when he was schooling people without trying.....or the fact that he is relegated to obscurity in the history books like the other bass innovators James Jamerson and Larry Graham. Bass guitar is pretty much written in their blood sweat and tears.

  • who is the interviewer???

  • Jerry Germont breat player in his own right

  • Comment removed

  • just found out that its actually

    Jeremy Jemmott

    Your close

  • lol cant spell -.- thanks for correcting it!

  • I think the interviewer switches basses. Look at 5:54 its more of a fender bass then.

  • it switches at 5:00 or so, you can tell from the head stock, it switches from the orchestral scroll style head ornamentation 3:05 - 3:09 to the factory stock fender type.

  • how can u get a j bass to sound like hes playin, is it just full treble or r there effects in this vid?

  • I think Jaco got a lot of his tone by putting a whole heap of mid into his tone. That's what gave him his "horny" tone. Also he used his bridge pick-up exclusively. Dunno about the rest of his set up but I'm pretty sure that's the gist of it.

  • sall in your hands man

  • The man is god

  • outstanding

  • Para mi el mejor bajista del mundo!! Grande Jaco!

  • does the other guy have a carl thompson bass?

  • Comment removed

  • he is controlled and you can hear what he is doing, first real appreciation.

  • jaco is amazing
