Environmentally friendly? Not really. It uses 40 percent less energy, thats true. But in-general, monthly, a regular TV only costs dollars of your bills. Lets say 10 dollars. So this saves 40% or 4 dollars. So you're paying 6 dollars a month for this tv, and comparatively speaking.. 46" 6000 model for 2499. With features at the same, a 46" Samsung LCD TV for the 650 series is just about 1000. So, it would take you 375 MONTHS to GAIN just the EXTRA money you spent on this "LED". 1500/4=375.
Not to mention, their "LED" tv is actually, LED/LCD tv because its not TRUE LED technology. It actually uses LEDs around the border of the television with a copyrighted mirror to display light through LCD onto the screen. So in all actuality, you're not getting 100% LED, and you're not saving anything. Same goes to Vizio, that is also LED/LCD.
@IceNineX Sony is not better, they have slacked their product for the PS3. As far as Consumer Reports a few months back, Samsung was first, Sony was second, but anyone who knows tech, knows Toshiba is rising faster, and Sony is falling faster than a lead zeppelin.
@IceNineX You misread I think, Sony has dropped in TV quality BECAUSE they're focusing MORE on PS3 is what I meant, and Toshiba could potentially take Samsung's place since Samsung is becoming more expensive for their product
it has also more than 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio; Also, it has a 240 Hz refresh rate which removes annoying blurring of screens with other TVs.
you can also hook it up to your internet through its Ethernet port. It also allows you to connect to widgets like Yahoo Widgets, Youtube, USA Today Sports, and among others. you can freely visit us at ledtvscreens(dot)org and tell us wat u think

one more thing....I have a 120 mhz thingee is really is annoying when watching movies. It's too fluid that I feel like im watching a soap than a movie. I prefer not having the 120 or 240 mhz feature
if the price of LED HD TV is not a big diff than LCD HD TV then it's worth the purpose. But if it cost alot more than no. The thickness of the LED vs. LDC wouldn't make a big diff considering you're watching TV from the front normally. The thin LED might njust look nicer plush on your wall than the thicker LCD. I personally think that if you're put in a blind study of LED VS. LCD HD TV , a your eyes can't tell a different.
the led dosent seem that good? is it really that worth it to get a led tv? how much is it? is it breakable? how good is it with games blu ray movies and tv? i jus recently got a vizio and i couldnt be any happier with it its amazingly tru hd with crystal clear vision and sound.......can a tv actuallly be better than what i have?....someone plz responed...thnxs
Yup. I initially bought a 46" LCD HDTV 60hz with 80,000:1 contrast ratio. It cost $1,100. However, when I found out the Samsung 40" LED had gone on sale, I immediately went back to exchange it. I paid $200 more, but more than worth it. It runs at 120hz and 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio. There's no comparison. Plus they use energy more efficiently so they last longer.
they cost basicly the same around the 40" range, they consume less electricity, has a wonderful picture quality, and is stunningly slim, perfect to mount on a wall. I just bought this tv a few days ago, and set it next to my 40 inch samsung lcd, and inserted a hd dvd into my player which had high color contrasts and shadows in videos i compiled. I payed 1400 for my lcd tv after taxes and 1400 no taxes from ebay for my led tv :D hope this helps people eager to make the switch from lcd to led
well im glad ur happy wit ur LED n all but i jus got my lcd n i dont really think makes much of a difference since i usually use it 4 games n tv shows so ya

People dont buy this tv until they come out with more upgrades, my uncle has this tv for 3500 dollars and the picture is horrible now after six months, nore like a 480p dlp tv, be better off with a 1500 samsung 55 inch lcd.
u CHECKED it, my uncle has had it for half a year or a year and this thing turned into horrible color n quality, id say wait for the next generation of this tv, so they fix the problems.
Plasmas have a lot of downsides that this tv makes up for. 1.2" thick @ 44lbs makes it light enough to mount on the wall and barely stick out. I've seen this LED quality ratings surpassing Plasma... if you want a "fraction of the price" tv, then this isn't for you.
LED may surpass plasma when it comes to energy savings, attractiveness, less weight, and being able to be more used in brightly lit rooms, but when it comes to true picture quality, refresh rate, and contrast ratio (which IMO are more important), Plasma still wins.

The same goes for contrast ratios. The study revealed static contrast ratios of 1000:1 and 2000:1 for all of the tested LCD HDTVs. The plasma set reached 3842:1.
Im not just spouting off my own opinion either, bioshot43. Ive done extensive research from reputable websites like CNET, Consumer Reports, Engadget, and others. As far as not being good for gaming, that may have been true in the past, but Plasma no longer suffers from burn-in issues, so thats a moot point now.
The Pioneer plasma panels are miles better than the Panasonic ones. Shame the current generation Kuros TVs use the last Pioneer in-house made panels :(
nah man, HDTV hs been around since 2003, i purchased a sony wega tube tv with built in HD DIgital tuner and HDMI input that goes up to 1080i, i even had special cable components for my xbox gamecube and ps2 at the time though most games were developed with 720p output. it still works and it's better than plasma only better Pure blacks no burn in images at all. see for yourself, model number is SONY KD-34XS955. Oh and i just ordered/upgraded to UN558500 LED 55" PEACE DAWG!
Yes, Pioneer was top notch. I don't understand why they got out of the flat panel business. I guess they weren't making enough money to justify continuing.
I see the ongoing Sony vs Samsung debate going on here in the comments. What I can say is I have a Sony Bravia 46 inch lcd and the Samsungs do have a little better picture. And i'm not talking about this led tv because its off the charts when it comes to picture quality. It makes my sony look like shit. BUT...the Sony's do last longer. And for blu-ray players, Samsung is shit. The Sony's are much better. I will soon have one of these led's but I will keep my sony blu-ray.
