  • Observation and Question: Is Daniel swimming inside that shirt made by Omar-the-Tent-Maker or what?

  • Daniel, that might be true for YOUR instincts. Unfortunately, my gut is not as good as yours, pokerwise.

  • tOURNAMENTS ARE WEAKSAUCE. POINTLESS WASTE OF TIME AND REQUIRES LESS SKILL THAN CASH. ONLINE PLAYERS ARE FULL OF THEMSELVES AND GET CRUSHED DAILY IN VEGAS. WORD TO THE WISE

  • @Augz1776 agreed -- but I love tournaments, BECAUSE they make the cash games so juicy... my local $60 donkaments every 2nd day start at 7pm, with "re-entry" the first hour. I show up at 8:30pm-9:00pm and leave around 10:30pm-11:30pm and unless my opponents hit a lot of weak draws on the river, I clean up with barely any mental stress and virtually no risk... all thanks to the tournament bustouts not knowing how to change to a "cashgame" mentality.

  • First instinct isn't always right, but it's right more than not and that's all that matters. If your tournament is on the line and you don't have a lot invested in the pot, your best bet would be to play it safe and wait til you get a really good hand. Unless of course you already have a really good hand. My first instinct is right a lot more than it's wrong, but the worst thing anyone can do is second guess themselves. It takes a lot of discipline to go with your first instinct.

  • thats why ultra agressive players like phil ivey and carlos mortensen never win tournaments who are not afraid because of moral obligations to lose their backers money... baby believe me insincts are mostly correct but fear and greed overrules them so you might not always notice them

  • @zalmi1 much of an experienced player's "gut instinct" is based on that full experience, seeing thousands of hands you start seeing common patterns of play, betting, physical tells, etc... and your immediate "gut instinct" response to a situation will be your subconscious combining all that data into a familiar pattern and giving you a baseline response to it.

If you feel conflicted when about to act, then analyse the situation logically, you need to tank for a bit. But usually "gut" = correct.
