This still makes me tear up. After all this time. I sobbed my heart out watching this for the first time- I could barely breathe. Robin Hood ended when she died- it was never the same without her.
This episode is so depressing to watch...but Jonas & Lucy really pulled the scenes off beautifully and the music just makes it that much more moving. Even though I hated the ending of season 2, I have to admit that...
The actress that played Marian left the show to pursue a career in Hollywood. Besides get another actress, there is nothing the writers could do but kill her off in the storyline :( Yeah it sucks, and doesn't follow the story, but i think they did an alright job of carrying on the show without her.
It was bad enough they killed off Marian--Robin's true love--but what completely ruined it for me is how they had to spit on her memory by having Robin fool around with 2 different women (neither nearly as strong or beautiful) in season 3!
what the hell....some bozo writer decides he will make a more dramatic scene by killing off marion...talk about killing the whole freakin series...kiss the 3rd season goodbye...im not watching it...unless they decide to tar and feather the writers in it...ill watch THAT scene
"I hope we have forever in heaven, because we didn't have enough time on earth. Not nearly enough time."
"That's the last time I marry you, if you can't even remember."
(Classic. Sad, but funny too at the same time. Priceless.)
"I promise to love you and to cherish you, on earth, and especially in heaven, for now and forever." (And leave out the "until death us do part" bit, please...)
Guy didnt love her , If it was real love , He would want to see her happy , So argue with that . I watched this show all the time , but when they killed Marian , I stopped , And started to hate it instead .
I agree (except that I still watched Season 3 anyway...although it was never as good...except for the end bit when Robin sees Marian's spirit while he's dying!).
"Guy didn't love her, if it was real love, he would want to see her happy." (No kidding. Guy was more like OBSESSED with her. It was not real love, from him. If he truly cared about her he would've wanted her to be with whomever she loved. Even if Guy just cared as a friend he would've cared more/differently than he did.)
I am crying so hard it is not even funny! The only part of this I saw was Guy stab her. Not the big speaches of Mirian and Robin, him remembering her, OMG! This is so sad!
Guy DID die in the book. He was decapitated by Robin. Some stories of the Robin Hood Legend depict Marian dying in Sherwood, but AFTER King Richard had returned. Her body was buried by Robin near his and Marian's favourite oak tree, which had their names carved into it, encircled by a heart with an arrow in it. A similar thing occurred in the BBC Show, with Marian's ring. Believe it or not, in some versions of the legend, it was Little John, not Robin who killed the Sheriff of Nottingham.
I remember the part with Robin burying the ring (BBC version, third season) (I just finished seeing that season at the [exact] end of December...New Year's Eve afternoon was when I saw the last two episodes).
Which book or legend says about Marian being buried near their favorite oak, and the heart with the arrow in it? I don't know that one, I just know ones that tell about her death (eerily like the BBC version in some ways).
But that part about Robin and Guy (not to mention their half-brother [Archer] who suddenly sprung from nowhere, I mean from the minds of the BBC writers! ^_~) joining together against the Sheriff, THAT'S not in the legends, that I know of. Until now, anyway (I mean, now it's a television legend ^_~).
master2428,
I agree that they didn't really need to kill Allen. (At least they didn't kill *everyone*. I almost thought they would, at the end.)
If the show had gone on for more seasons, I think I would've been (sort of) okay with Marian dying at the end of Season 7 or 8, and Robin dying at the end of the next season. But it was just...too soon. Although since Lucy was leaving, there wasn't a whole lot that they could do about it. Still, though. (Actually Marian *could* have been captured/imprisoned and the other characters *could* have spent all of Season 3 trying to rescue her. And finally succeeding.)
Since it's traditional (in legends) for Robin and Marian to both die later on...I could've (probably) dealt with their deaths (more or less) okay IF it had just actually BEEN later on. I like the old traditions *including* the ones about the deaths...but...but...it is *not* traditional for Robin and Marian to both die so soon. (And when I saw the end of Season 2, I kept thinking, "But she's supposed to die and be buried in England!") (Although the ring was nice as a token of that.)
It was (almost) worth seeing all of Season 3 just to see the bit at the end where Marian (well, her spirit anyway ^_^) came back.
Somebody said (I think on YouTube) that two different versions were made of the end of Season 2. And in one of them she lives. Because Lucy didn't know for sure yet if she was leaving the show or not, right up until when they were filning (so someone said, anyway).
I'm so glad she at least came back to finish Season 3. ^_^
Yeah, I know what you mean about the story becoming awful...well, for me it's not just that it's sad, it's also, I felt like Season 3 was kind of...disorganized. Like maybe after Lucy left the show, the people in charge didn't really know what to do next, so they just did anything they could think of. Also, it bugged me somewhat that after they introduced interesting characters like Tuck and Kate, they didn't really have very much for those characters to do. Not fair. Sigh.
How can they kill Marian like that!? I understand *maybe* the sheriff killing her, but *Guy*!? And she's suppose to be a fighter! Surely there was a weapon somewhere she could have picked up and *fought* with Guy instead of being killed by him!
I didn't think Season 3 was half as good, period. (For reasons which I've already given in a post to sprock.)
Seasons 1 & 2 = one of my favorite shows (yes, even with Marian dying).
Season 3 = (to me) something that just *didn't really feel like the same show*. I don't know what they (the people in charge) thought they were doing. It felt (to me) very disconnected from Seasons 1 & 2. (Actually I think part of it was, they'd lost SEVERAL characters, not just Marian.)
this serie was never the same after she died. i just loved the story beetween her and guy and i wondered how it was gonna end., but i was really pissed when they killed robin cause that was fucking stupid!
omg, i ahet guy, the actor is great, but guy is stupid and evil and ugly as hell!
this is so sad but i dont feel sorry for guy, i hope robin kills him... (havnt seen whole season 3, iv just seen on youtube that robin dies)
Oh, thank God/Goddess...someone who thinks it's okay to like the actor but still hate Guy. Hooray. ^_^ (He's SUPPOSED to be the, ah, Guy we "love to hate"...or just plain hate...but...some of the fans of the actor are so into "oh, he's so cute, how could we hate/dislike him"...and some of them actually seem to think that *Guy* is so wonderful...they need to learn to separate the actor from the character. @__@ Glad you're not like them. ^_^
Boy, the BBC really enjoy making sad, heartbreaking endings in their finales. In Robin Hood and Doctor Who especially. Still, as Doctor Who producer Russell T Davies once said, good Drama does rip your guts out and make you bleed and remember that character forever. After all, if all the main good likeable characters survive, where are the consequences for the hero? It just goes to show how involved people can get in the storyline and the character development of a TV Series.
Yeah, the BBC producers and such obviously do enjoy/prefer heartbreaking endings. (Then again...one of the main reasons why David Tennant is/was my favorite Doctor Who [so far] is that you can practically read his every expression. He just...looks like he means it. So...yeah, I can see what Russell T. Davies meant about good drama. There really is nothing like watching the characters' pain to make us remember them. Too sad sometimes, though.)
no i think thts right! how the hell can they hve a series four!!! i mean they only got kate, much, little john and archer!! the might as well jst call it archer blah blah blah!!!! it ws so gd bt now jonas armstrong gone it all gone to shit XD
if they do continue with robin hood series 4, i don't think they should actually call it 'robin hood' because with: no robin no marian no guy no allan no will no djaq no sherriff not even an isabella it might just, possibly, oh i don't know NOT WORK AT ALL
I had the same feeling about *if* they were to do a Series 4 (which apparently they're not). They could (literally) hardly even call it Robin Hood. (They *could* call it "Archer" which would be sort of a similar tradition. They also *could* say, well, to the people Archer is sort of the new Robin Hood, and there's always "we are Robin Hood", so...the legend continues. But...I think I would rather just *imagine* that maybe that's *how the legend gets into history* than watch it.)
About "I don't think they should actually call it Robin Hood"...that reminds me, someone once said something about, his/her dad had said, Harry Potter could die in the 6th Harry Potter book, and then the 7th and final one could be "After Harry Potter". ("After Robin Hood" might've been a possibility. Or "Robin Hood's Brother" [or Half-Brother]. But...traditionally the story ends when Robin dies. People can write fanfics if they want to know what happens after. ^_^
what a great ending, don't think they should bother with a 4th season, because it was a good last episode gisborne dies, so does robin and seemingly they destroyed the castle and sheriff.
But there probably will be with sheriff returning and archer being the lead, but with gisborne/robin gone not gona watch it.
Actually, both Vaisey (the Sheriff) and Isabella definately perished in the explosion of the Byzantine fire (no way anyone standing right beside it could have survived) and even those who were outside were crushed in Nottingham's destruction. However, Blamire the Sheriff's new lackey remained in the tunnel and seeing what the Sheriff did to his previous right hand man, likely left while he still could. He might be the new Sheriff in Series 4, with Prince John (Toby Stephens) as the main villain.
She is wearing white because, with the way they are putting it (however disappointing it may be), to symbolize her wedding dress. She is getting married in a white dress. The scene where Robin is carrying Marian down the sand hill is him carrying her across the threshold and to her resting spot. Most of us wish she could come back, but I think writers have put that argument to rest. Long live Robin and Marian.
I love what you said about the wedding symbolisms. I thought of most of them too but I forgot about the "carrying her across the threshold and to her resting spot" part. (I suddenly just thought of [Shakespeare's] Hamlet. Gertrude, to the dead Ophelia..."I thought thy bride-bed to have deck'd [with flowers], sweet maid, and not have strew'd thy grave.")
"Long live Robin and Marian"...forever, in eternity (honestly I thought her spirit at the end was the best part of Season 3 ^_^).
They were symbolically married at least three times (five times, if you count carrying her to her grave, and then burying the ring in England, but those are both after she was dead).
Outside the church in Season 1.
(Robin: "Do you take this man, and this horse, as your way out of here?" Marian: "I do." ^___^)
And then twice at the end of Season 2 (although those might only count as one time, since they didn't finish the first time...but I think it was sort of two times in a way).
Actually six times (symbolically married) if you count when she came back (in spirit) at the end of Season 3. (Of course I'd been thinking "She's there in spirit" all season anyway. I didn't know she really would be. ^_^)
Season 2...
Marian: "Where were we?"
Robin: "What?"
Marian: "Last time we were dying, we were getting married. Now, where were we?"
Robin: "I don't remember."
Marian: "That's the last time I marry you, if you can't even remember!"
...I didn't think Marian was too ladylike to bleed, I thought, she probably would only bleed a little at first and then more after she pulled the sword out, and they conveniently just...didn't show that part of her very close up any more after that point (is how they got around that problem...kind of...I think).
I can't understand this... how can they continue the story of Robin Hood without Marian???? The story should be finished with their marriage... But this ending is sooo sad.....
yeah but if it just finished wiv the marriage nobody wud ever know wat wud happen between robin and guy so.. i fink the 3rd is ok wivout her caz theres times wen robins in a situation were he talks about her or the future they cud of had and its so sad. understand now? the season ends wiv them together kind of but the 3rds about robin and guy and this huge battle thats supposed to end all seasons..
Yeah I understand it and your're right in a way, but I still think that in the story of Robin Hood Marian is a main character so it's a little bit strange that she died in this version.
i cry every time at this ending! It's heartbreaking!
At the beginning of series 3, jonas armstrong and the rest of the RH team got everything spot on in terms of life after Marian but in the most recent episode (episode 6), he kissed soemone else (I won't say who incase I spoil it for anyone) but it really got to me, especially when you know who the person is!
yes. guy tries to kill the king and marians stops him. then gisbourne tells her to move so that he can finish this and then they can be together. marian tells him that she would rather die than be with him and that she is going to marry robin. angry, guy shoves a sword into her belly just before robin arrives. guy runs off with the sheriff and robin and marian get married before she dies from her injury. she is burried in the holy land while robin returns to england to avenge his wife.
holy shit! did they seriously do that??!?!?! its not robin hood without marian! i cant believe they did that! seriously! cmon man! they probly lost a lot of viewers who were just in it for the romantic bits. like me.... i might watch still but it wouldnt b the same! if he gets with another girl its just wrong ya kno?!
even worse yet. an acor called Robert Kazinsky is said to replace jonas armstrong in season 4. and keith allan is not coming back fr season 4 eithe. whats the point with the series?? writters are really loosig ther mind here.,
I still cannot believe that Marian is dead!!! What in the hell were they thinking by killing her off?!? What am I going to do now? The show is freaking ruined!!!!!! Oh my God! Robin and Marian are why I watch this show!! Son of a bitch!!!! =-{
i no she was lik the main charachter wiv robin they were g8 together they shuld of killed someone else of i heer hes kisses the blonde girl kate soon :O
Personally I got very fed up with watching Robin kiss people other than Marian. Also it was really too soon for that anyway. Especially for medieval Catholics and ESPECIALLY if they'd been married or had even considered themselves married. Season 3 acted as if Robin and Marian had been just modern boyfriend and girlfriend. Except at the end, finally (yay).
i searched every where i can if marian's death is just false alarm..but sad to say that she( Lady Marian) is not coming back coz Lucy Griffiths is leaving the show and the worse part is that on season 3 last episode Jonas Armstrong is leaving the show too .
I don't think she really died. i think (hope) it's a dream, because in the serie, he is falling asleep in the desert. i hope it's something he's dreaming, cause I can't se why Marion shouldn't be there. Marion doesnøt die in the other Robin Hood movies, sp why shoul she die in this one? it doesn't make any sence? I love Robin Hood, and he is never been played better than by Jonas Armstrong!
sangredelangel (that means, "blood of the angel")...yes, that is a lot of talking while dying...but the scene would be a lot less good without the talking.
(Realistically, though, yes, I think she would've had difficulty saying that much at that point.)
(But death scenes are so much more touching when the characters are talking.)
punkcat77 about "there'll be no one left for season 3!"...I thought the same thing, but then...*somehow* they managed to have a season 3 anyway.
And do Robin finds a new girl to love then he don't need to revenge Marion's murder. But I hope he will do his revenge because the Sheriff and Gisbourne deserve that. I will miss Djaq and Will in season 3 too and Marion will I miss too of course. Lucy Griffiths is the best Marion who ever has been played in the Robin Hood legend story. She was my favorite character in the show.
I hope Robin is not gonna find a new love in season 3 because that will ruin the revenge about Marion's murder because season 3 is gonna be all about revenge on Marion's murder.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeee this is the most tragic thing i've ever seen!i'm not one to cry at films/tv whatever but this is just, wow. you'd have to be non human.
o.O when i watched this on TV i was like No they cant kill her off!! :P if there is another season which i hope there is then it might be a little more i will get my revenge! from robins
omg u cant do that to robin hood, will someone please write to the bbc and get them to bring marian back, she cant die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, this made me cry soo much :( xxx
In the BBC's homepage they have wrote that Robin may gonna find a different love. But I think if that's going to happen is not gonna be the same. Because in the legend Robin married Marion and it ends with that. And it have ends with that in other movies about Robin Hood too.
To Popandrockgirl: Actually Marian can die and it *can* still be true to the legends... because her death is *in* some of the legends (it's just less well known) (and it's not quite like in the show either...and it's *not* in the Holy Land!). But Robin cannot find a new love and have the story still be true to the legend (doesn't work that way). To anyone: Lucy Griffiths' voice sounds even prettier than usual, in the marriage vows (both times) (very clear voice there). ^_^
yeah she's gone..Im not happy they did it but it happened, theres some new girl named Kate joining Robin hood for season 3 who knows whats gonna happen..
Okay. But in other movies it did'nt ended so. And i did'nt mean she couldn't die I just mean that it would happen when she is old and die of age not so young that she was now then it could have ended happy if she not died now but she got murdered. And now it ended so very sad and so very unhappy.
To Popandrockgirl: I know. I mean, yeah, obviously everyone dies eventually but... yeah. (Heroes and heroines in the more, well, legendary heroic sorts of stories actually *hardly ever* just die of old age, though, have you noticed?) (And she does get murdered in every one of the legends of her death, that I know of. Although she's usually supposed to be older than in this TV show, when she dies in the legends. And anyway I didn't *want* them to kill her in the show... it's too sad.)
To dangerous4christ: I know, it's so sad... but I think that she *is* dead this time (it would be interesting though if the actress came back for one episode as a guest star or something...she could always say she was Marian's lookalike cousin or something ^_^ [yes, that's silly, but it's *less* silly than bringing the same character back from the dead *twice*!!! which would be hard to believe!!!]). ^_^
yeah she's gone..Im not happy they did it but it happened, theres some new girl named Kate joining Robin hood for season 3 who knows whats gonna happen..
I'm in love with Robin, how hot is he, right ?

omg, i ahet guy, the actor is great, but guy is stupid and evil and ugly as hell!
this is so sad but i dont feel sorry for guy, i hope robin kills him... (havnt seen whole season 3, iv just seen on youtube that robin dies)

EllieUnderworld,
Oh, thank God/Goddess...someone who thinks it's okay to like the actor but still hate Guy. ^_^

EmmaBlue2 2 years ago 2
Boy, the BBC really enjoy making sad, heartbreaking endings in their finales. In Robin Hood and Doctor Who especially. Still, as Doctor Who producer Russell T Davies once said, good Drama does rip your guts out and make you bleed and remember that character forever. After all, if all the main good likeable characters survive, where are the consequences for the hero? It just goes to show how involved people can get in the storyline and the character development of a TV Series.
Kaagh178 2 years ago
Kaagh178,
Yeah, the BBC producers and such obviously do enjoy/prefer heartbreaking endings. Too sad sometimes, though.)

i so agree. it was fucking stupid of thoose pitty excuse for producers to kill off all the main characters
EllieUnderworld 2 years ago
well lucy(marian) didnt want to do it anymor ebut i agree i hate she did that.
MissUnpredictable818 2 years ago 3
lippy88lizzy,
I had the same feeling about *if* they were to do a Series 4 (which apparently they're not).
KittyStarlight 2 years ago
P.S. to lippy88lizzy,
About "I don't think they should actually call it Robin Hood"...that reminds me, someone once said something about, his/her dad had said, Harry Potter could die in the 6th Harry Potter book, and then the 7th and final one could be "After Harry Potter". ("After Robin Hood" might've been a possibility. Or "Robin Hood's Brother" [or Half-Brother]. But...traditionally the story ends when Robin dies. People can write fanfics if they want to know what happens after. ^_^
KittyStarlight 2 years ago
what a great ending, don't think they should bother with a 4th season, because it was a good last episode gisborne dies, so does robin and seemingly they destroyed the castle and sheriff.
But there probably will be with sheriff returning and archer being the lead, but with gisborne/robin gone not gona watch it.
Roll on Merlin.
00JASI2006 2 years ago
Actually, both Vaisey (the Sheriff) and Isabella definately perished in the explosion of the Byzantine fire (no way anyone standing right beside it could have survived) and even those who were outside were crushed in Nottingham's destruction. However, Blamire the Sheriff's new lackey remained in the tunnel and seeing what the Sheriff did to his previous right hand man, likely left while he still could. He might be the new Sheriff in Series 4, with Prince John (Toby Stephens) as the main villain.

It's now been confirmed by the BBC that Robin Hood has ended with its Third Season. Series 4 was cancelled.

omg, it's so sad, why did she have to die :(
BrosoKintobor 2 years ago 8
She is wearing white because, with the way they are putting it (however disappointing it may be), to symbolize her wedding dress. She is getting married in a white dress. The scene where Robin is carrying Marian down the sand hill is him carrying her across the threshold and to her resting spot. Most of us wish she could come back, but I think writers have put that argument to rest. Long live Robin and Marian.
spatoti 2 years ago 7
spatoti,
I love what you said about the wedding symbolisms.
KittyStarlight 2 years ago
They were symbolically married at least three times (five times, if you count carrying her to her grave, and then burying the ring in England, but those are both after she was dead).
Outside the church in Season 1.
(Robin: "Do you take this man, and this horse, as your way out of here?" Marian: "I do." ^___^)
And then twice at the end of Season 2 (although those might only count as one time, since they didn't finish the first time...but I think it was sort of two times in a way).
KittyStarlight 2 years ago
Actually six times (symbolically married) if you count when she came back (in spirit) at the end of Season 3. (Of course I'd been thinking "She's there in spirit" all season anyway. I didn't know she really would be. ^_^)
Season 2...
Marian: "Where were we?"
Robin: "What?"
Marian: "Last time we were dying, we were getting married. Now, where were we?"
Robin: "I don't remember."
Marian: "That's the last time I marry you, if you can't even remember!"
^_^

strange how Marian is apparently too ladylike to bleed.......show won't be the same without her.
hedgimom 2 years ago
hedgimom (a hedgehog's mom? ^__^)
...I didn't think Marian was too ladylike to bleed, I thought, she probably would only bleed a little at first and then more after she pulled the sword out, and they conveniently just...didn't show that part of her very close up any more after that point (is how they got around that problem...kind of...I think).
(Good point, though.)
KittyStarlight 2 years ago
I can't understand this... how can they continue the story of Robin Hood without Marian???? The story should be finished with their marriage... But this ending is sooo sad.....
Femma123 2 years ago 2
yeah but if it just finished wiv the marriage nobody wud ever know wat wud happen between robin and guy so.. i fink the 3rd is ok wivout her caz theres times wen robins in a situation were he talks about her or the future they cud of had and its so sad. understand now? the season ends wiv them together kind of but the 3rds about robin and guy and this huge battle thats supposed to end all seasons..
kebbylicious 2 years ago
Yeah I understand it and your're right in a way, but I still think that in the story of Robin Hood Marian is a main character so it's a little bit strange that she died in this version.
But maybe I'm just a little bit sentimental :D

At the beginning of series 3, jonas armstrong and the rest of the RH team got everything spot on in terms of life after Marian but in the most recent episode (episode 6), he kissed soemone else (I won't say who incase I spoil it for anyone) but it really got to me, especially when you know who the person is!

i couldnt watch season 2 episode 13, so i dont understand some comments. did guy kill marian??
suspendedintime15 2 years ago
yes. guy tries to kill the king and marians stops him. then gisbourne tells her to move so that he can finish this and then they can be together. marian tells him that she would rather die than be with him and that she is going to marry robin. angry, guy shoves a sword into her belly just before robin arrives. guy runs off with the sheriff and robin and marian get married before she dies from her injury. she is burried in the holy land while robin returns to england to avenge his wife.

...about Robin kissing Kate...
it was worse when he kissed Isabella...
at least Kate is good!

I love Robin Hood, and he is never been played better than by Jonas Armstrong!

wow thats an awful lot to say when your dying
sangredelangel 3 years ago 2
sangredelangel (that means, "blood of the angel")...yes, that is a lot of talking while dying...but the scene would be a lot less good without the talking.
KittyStarlight 2 years ago

And do Robin finds a new girl to love then he don't need to revenge Marion's murder. But I hope he will do his revenge because the Sheriff and Gisbourne deserve that. I will miss Djaq and Will in season 3 too and Marion will I miss too of course. Lucy Griffiths is the best Marion who ever has been played in the Robin Hood legend story. She was my favorite character in the show.
Popandrockgirl 3 years ago 2
I hope Robin is not gonna find a new love in season 3 because that will ruin the revenge about Marion's murder because season 3 is gonna be all about revenge on Marion's murder.

In the BBC's homepage they have wrote that Robin may gonna find a different love. But I think if that's going to happen is not gonna be the same. Because in the legend Robin married Marion and it ends with that. And it have ends with that in other movies about Robin Hood too.
