this is beautifully done. two years since you did this and enda still not passed. brings me to tears regularly. i really appreciate your ability to keep a level head when facing such insane and ignorant discrimination. i have to admit there are times when i need to be in space of women who grew up as little girls, but besides such specific times, there are no other reasons to exclude people for their own self identity. it'll be great when kids can live their identity without resistance.
What do you mean it's not in the bill? It is in "Dirty 30" and ENDA stands for its federal protection, isn't it? You say they threw it out? What a surprise.
The bill is not about protection, it's about advocating sexual perversions. They don't wanna help people like you, only justify their wickedness. You really should consider what sides you are taking.
And btw, not all people who call themselves christians are christians indeed.
You mean perversions like 5000 priests molesting children ? Some of them as many as 200 each ? That kind of filthy perversion ? Or perhaps emotionally destroying children by telling them they are going to hell if they don't believe in a fake god ?! The bill should have been about restricting christian terrorists like you !
@darliegoddess Oh, you were quick to label me. I was expecting to find you as a nice person, like you said you are.. So what, was that a lie? How big of a hypocrite you look now after saying that you don't hate christians? Did you change your mind?
I don't argue about the priests. They are perverts. But it ain't justifying other perverts. And don't stick the heresies of catholic church to me, I don't belong to this filth.
That's all I will say cuz I have a feeling that you will ban this comment.
I don't hate anyone, I just recognize a mental illness when I see one. Of course you don't argue about the priests, it might inhibit the flow of helpless children being raped by them. Of course you belong with them, your hypocrisy comes from them, your blind eyes turns from them. You hand these children to them.
Being gay isn't a mental illness, being a religious fanatic is. If there as a god you all would be writhing in a burning hell.
@darliegoddess Ok. So calling someone a terrorist is not hatred if he's a christian. Kinda double-minded don't you think?
I said I'm not arguing with YOU about them, not that I turn my eyes away. And seeing forward into your reply, talking about pedophiles among catholics with you won't change the flow of children either. And I ain't handing nobody to anyone. Is that clear? I see how you try to blame me from the start but you won't find much to grab unto. I don't rebuke hypocritically.
Of course you are arguing about them . Gay people have been 10% of our population since time began , get over it. It' not a "sexual perversion" you creep. The 5000 preists you let loose on innocent children WERE PERVERTS! Yo let them ravage rape and destroy innocent children and then point to consenting gay adults ? What a complete hypocrite!.
Transgendered people are politically weak because they rely on the Gay community for representation and identity: Tran-gen ppl need to be masters of their own destiny, such as defining themselves and not accepting labels stuck on them by non-transgender groups and people. There's alot of moaning about this and that but no group action. Many T-girls are in such fierce compitition with each other like "beauty" and how many "boyfriends" they can get blah blah blah. UK's Gender Trust is also a joke
"Transgendered people are politically weak because they rely on the Gay community for representation and identity"
That is quite frankly ridiculous . That's no different than a bigot calling them "gay". Gays are a much larger group and more visual. I know more transgender activists than I do gay and they sure don't "keep quiet" or depend on gay groups like the HRC to speak for them. They not only were active they were contributing to gay causes at the SAME time.
The problem is the gay community , like all communities , has two personalities. While the vast majority are supportive and long sighted there are a number of them that have run out of patience . Like in the movie Pitch Black where Riddick says "save yourself , no one will know" it's much easier to believe this was ever about just being gay rather than equality . Gays are nongender conforming and if they think it's about bumping boy bottoms they are in for a big surprise.
Thank's for you're reply... I guess i should have made it more clear that i'm saying this from a UK point of view, of what i've seen and know. I don't think its ridicuous because so many people cannot make the distinction between Transgendered and Gay. I hear some TG ppl (m-f) call themselves Gay "though dress and live as female and date men" and others will say they're straight. This can depend country to country. I think TG people should define themselves more 'clearly' as a group.
Gays are still being murdered, discrimination is still rampant. They can't even get a marriage act passed and lose to everyone fighting them no matter how insane and obviously incompetent the they are. Please don't tell me about gay successes. Gays are still being publicly hung in other countries. Their failure is not a failure of the "gay issue". It is a failure of the "equality issue".
"We all kind of knew but we didn't say anything because you just love people, right, and you love them for who they are as a person." I wish everyone had that mindset. People are quick to reveal something about a person when they're not ready for it. People need time to deal with what they're afraid of, and they're entitled to it. Not everyone is respectful enough to give someone that. I'm glad you had the kind of love for your friend to give him that respect. acceptance.
Cont. - In most cases typecasting & criticisms are a cry out to find & define their own beliefs. When you look into the def. of diverse individualism it would be oxymoronic to include typecasting as part of this endeavor. Who defines ordinary? Being diverse doesn't divide us it brings us together. As Stephen Biko once said, "the most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed." So, good for u for not arming them with the tools they need to oppress, your mind!
Pt. 1 - Made me cry. There is a lesson in this message, TOLERANCE. I find that the more people I meet in the GLBT community the more tolerance, humanity & acceptance I see. You are the masters and we the students, in which I think the problem begins; that is admitting they are novice at something = ignorance which then translates to their intolerance. There are many out there who criticize, some w/ great pleasure (i.e. Fred Phelps).
I think growing up the way we have tends to make us more likely to be compassionate and accepting if for no other reason than we know how it is to be seen as less than human. However, I have also seen many instances where people like us are not tolerant or accepting of differences in others... my overall take on this is that discrimination is probably more a function of how much one accepts themselves... how secure they are in themselves.
Gosh that seems soooo wrong losing your job over just being who you are. I couldnt imagine going through that and finally having a surgery and then you do and BAM you get fired and cant work either...what a bitch! Keep your head up and keep going ,your a wonderful person whatever you are...and if the world or a employer cant except we'll their loss!
Its always sad to to me, how we like to point at others percieved social misgivings to make ourselves feel better. I am a christian, and I don't hate you. As far as I know jesus always went to the socially unwanted people, to help them, be kind to them, and loved them. We all could learn a lot from that. I am glad you don't hate. But I hope you don't think all christians hate you or who you are.I hope you feel better mentally and physically. You are a beautiful person. stay strong.
Why do they oppose the T in GLBT? It is ironic that a bill on non-discrimination is discriminating against a particular gender minority and from some sections of the GLB community.
Some GLBs are afraid of associating with the Trans community, you see Trans really scares straight people, much more so than gay. Gay is barely tolerated in the workplace, tolerated as in a comment I once heard "this place is full of queers". Now that sure sounds like tolerance and acceptance :)
Among many pieces of unfortunate news, Christine's post is very reassuring - at least in the meantime.
*sigh* It seems that wherever fear prevails, trust wavers. It sounds like a very guarded and lonely existence humans are creating for themselves. Pity.
That's true, Darlie. I suppose it is while being patient that efforts can be made to allow life (and people) to be a little more enjoyable and forgiving.
Get well soon! Never say never, though! It truly is sad that the christian right forget the love of god and its inclusivity! Some Buddhists are just as bad; look at Burma a Buddhist country for instance where about a thousand monks were slaughtered. I admire your selflessness... Loving and understanding those that hate the transgendered is inspiring. Take care!
HOT OFF THE PRESS! HRC did the right thing and signed a letter to the House committee handling the ending, urging them *not to proceed with the markup session that would remove transgender protections from the bill. Now, the ball is in Pelosi's court.
Someday, if humankind doesn't obliterate itself, and they all rise above ancient religions and taboos, based in ignorange and fear, and all people get educated, get food and get health insurance, we may see a transgender person in the house or the senate.
Humans are still very primative, they have a long way to go...
You had better get started!
Oh, and P.S. there are thousands of gay and transgender folk in IRAN!
you are so much of a better person to not hate back, that's strongly what i beleive in, i don't think god is like that either, why is every1 grouping into groupings into groupings sepertaing from other groups, when actually we all need to work together and understand eachother no matter how different we are, i don't think nothing will ever workout or be fair as long as every1 keeps discrimintating even among the discriminated. love the video Darlie
There are gays who hate gays that are too gay, transsexuals who hate transsexuals because they do not pass well enough and so on NeoStar. We think the people against us are out there but the real battle is inside. Some feel the need to define themselves by isolating others.
You are so gracious and thus a better person than I, hon. I understand why Nancy Pelosi cut loose transgender people from ENDA: she wants it to pass the House this week because next weekend she is the guest of honor at the Human Rights Campaign dinner. As a TS woman I am angry that the HRC accepts our exclusion when they promised they never would. And *they* will have to live with that lie.
You'll get no argument from me on that. However, as a longtime transsexual activist and a journalist, I feel responsible to use my literary skills and passion to speak up in the strongest possible terms. I hope that the San Francisco Bay Area Reporter and/or The Advocate chooses to publish the Op-Ed pieces I have written in response. I also agree with you that hatred never changed anything for the better, but visible anger at least gets noticed.

We've been talking about this bill in my QSX class and how the trans community has been excluded.
I find it remarkable that it has been 40 years since Stonewall, and we have still only come this far.
I can't wait for the day that prejudices die out and acceptance is embraced world-wide.
I love your video. What a beautiful and eloquently presented message!

Hi Darlie:)
I've lived with what I am all my life, and believe me, I know what fear is.
Things like this can only make things harder for people to confront their true feelings and stay hidden away.
Its like they don't want to face up to the fact that we exist.
I've never understood why there has to be discrimination against anyone and never will.
I'm going to go have a good cry now.
I hope you feel better soon:)
