it's quite possible that our definitions of life are inadequate. look at a virus. it doesn't fit the 8 standards of life, so it must not be right? wrong. it demonstrates active aggression, and active resistance. it's obviously living. it's not that far-fetched to perceive that all atoms, or even all pieces of matter, subatomic particles included are living, in some way or another.

I'm saying it's definitely possible. I'm also saying that the definitions of life need to be redefined.
