  • What section of the newspaper is best?

  • I am a little concern about the ink on the newspaper since I am interested in growing organic wheatgrass.

  • @perfectbeingjoy Cover with natural unbleached paper towels. Of course this means your sprouts will grow up illiterate. But, better than brainwashed. (-:

  • Thank you so much. You've inspired me to start growing my own instead of paying the high price at the farmers market. I will check back in if I have any questions:)

  • LOOKS LIKE A CHIA PET !

  • CAN YOU SMOKE IT ?

  • nice garden!

  • Culinary unbleached cheescloth would be a little bit better than the newspaper. I looked for organic unbleached cheesecloth, but that is hard to find.

  • @vineyardedge Would undyed cotton tea towels work for that? Maybe an organic cotton t-shirt- those aren't as hard to find.

  • @vineyardedge I would think unbleached paper towels would be fine, but search "Organic Unbleached Cotton Birdseye Unpaper Towels - One Dozen Washable Cloths for Table, Lunchbox, or All Purpose Cleaning" on Etsy. 23USD for 12.

  • I thought this stuff was for cats.

  • @looker2Utube I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the newpaper. I thought to myself "wtf is he doing?".

  • Sprouting grains like this is called malting. Of course, the next process after malting is drying the grains, grinding them up and then using them to brew beer. :-)

  • PLEASE HELP ME ABOUT TEMPRETURE

i dont know what tempreture suits its winter now and im suffering to grow it at home..

    advice plz !!

  • @robraab Keep it indoors, should be fine. as long as your house is warm

  • @DANNYKESTON

okay so 25 celsuis is fine ?

what about the watering?...i spread the wheat berries over the soil inside a plastic opened box but it seemed like the soil is not enough cuz its filled with water and grass didnt grow?

  • Gardening Vids on my channel!!

  • Thanks for very well made FYI video. I got a Vitamix this week and was thinking of growing some grass. I marked your video to take another look once we get longer (sun light) days here.

  • Thanks so much for this video. I am growing my first batch now and it is coming along nicely.

  • Can I throw it in a smoothy so I get the fiber and can mask the taste?

  • @LikeOLikeHInYourGut yea, you could make it in like a mango orange smoothie etc. blend it really well! and um, as far as this fiber thing, unless your overal diet is low in fiber and you dont eat very many whole fruits and veg, you should not be concerned with the lack of fiber in juices, thats the whole point of a juice, that's where the magic is! removal of fiber makes everything bioavalable and instantly digested with very little metabolic energy.

  • @LikeOLikeHInYourGut There are many other sources of fiber, you dont have to get it from wheatgrass. I think the best way to use wheatgrass with your smoothy is too juice it and toss it in when the blender is blending. Otherwise, your going to have tiny blades in your smoothy and that won't be good. The mixer will not blend the blades perfectly. All the nutritional value is in the juice anyway.

  • lovely vid !

  • Hey thanks for the video, tomorow im gonna put the wheatgrass outside. The wheatgrass grew great, im realy happy and relieved about it, because my needs for independence, contribution and health is being met. I used a towel instead of a newspaper, because newspaper actualy contain alot of colour and toxic stuff.

  • thank you!

  • remember to sneak walk over them!

  • WHOOW ITS SNOWING ON THE SCREEN

  • How much do you water it after the newspaper has been taken off and sprouts are showing? Would your recommend a spritzer?

  • How large is that tray? I got a wheatgrass growing kit for my birthday and according to the directions I use 2 cups of dry seed for each tray they provided. It seems like a lot to me. The tray is 11inches by 21inches. You used a cup but your tray looks smaller but you dont show a good perspective of the size.

  • wheat grass has B17 fights cancer on many levels

  • Can you cut them more than once, i dont grow them for food or anything just for the sake of it and i will give a tiny bit for my hamster. can i ? Will my hamster be ok?

  • While it is growing back the second time are you keeping it out in the light and misting it with water and watering it like you did for the first batch?

    Thanks

  • Wonderful video - other people were making growing wheat grass sound so complicated. I figured what was needed was simply to sprout the berries, give them some soil, and keep them watered - and you proved me correct. Thank you, subscribed!

  • hey man i noticed you're in new zealand too, where do you get your wheat from? probably not at pakn save or new world aye?

  • this stuff looks a just like the grass I buy at the pet store for my kittys......is this the same grass???... if so then my cats and I can eat the same grass

  • What does wheat grass taste like?

  • Use the wheat grass in a green smoothie

  • I'm excited!

  • Great video! How do you avoid mold?

  • how much wheatgrass do I need to grow to juice about 3-4 oz a day everyday?

  • excellent organized and clear demo. juicer should be cast iron masticating hand crank, nothing pricey and requires you to forcibly turn crank and manually clean it out. works best if you juice each grass harvest then freeze unused portion in small ice cube tray, with cover keeps for months in your home freezer top of a normal fridge. to aneffie53, try a few ounces of 3% H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) in watering water solution of distilled or filtered water pour it directly on white mold/give sun.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm getting a fuzzy white film (probably mold) right at the dirt line. . .what I'm I doing wrong? I live in a high humidity climate and haven't been using the peroxide.

  • Really liked your video. Just needed to ask you if the tray you used with the mud in it is perforated to allow draining of excess water.

  • how in the world does your grass grow so thick?? even if i spread it pretty thick my grass seems to get crowded and only grows every other grain. and it also "splits off" into two blades at only 3" high. i soak for 12 hours, sprout and rinse for 24 hours, spread on dry soil, water with garden hose fine spray, treat with food grade h peroxide solution of 1tsp to 32 oz between each watering, full sun for morning as my house shades it after that. what do i need to change? tips?

  • @benjorgensen1 Could be sprouting time? I sprout the wheat for however long it takes for it to start to form a root. This can be longer or shorter depending on weather and type of wheat used - no set time. Also if I let it sprout too long and the root starts to get too long before I put it on the soil - I find this reduces the productivity as well.

Could be overcrowding. I have found this reduces productivity.

  • @developyourqi , After cutting the grass, can we eat the remaining sprouted seeds ? what to do with them.

  • Could also be too much sunlight. The wheat shoots best when it stays covered on top of the soil until the leaves are two or three centimetres long. Too much sunlight and heat during growth may be causing the splitting of the leaves as well. Sunlight and heat = summer for the plant - time to get on and produce seed. Less light = spring - plenty of time to grow foliage before trying to form seed. I keep my grass indoors most of the day, with maybe 1/2 an hour or an hour outdoors sometimes.

  • Ok, so you CAN lt it grow once more afte cuttingit!!! Thank you! Now, what do you do with it after the second harvest? Just throw away?

Can I put the grass in my smoothie? I don't have a juicer but was thnking about making a green smoothie instead. But everywhere I look, everbody is just juicing it?

  • @babythebabyslings After the second harvest I just compost it. The nutrient level will be pretty low in any further cuttings.

You can try putting the grass in your smoothie. Its pretty fibrous though and may not combine well with the other ingredients, thats why most people juice it.

  • @developyourqi ahhh, awesome, thank you!! I could not find the answered to these questions anywhere else!!!

I have seen a video where a guy blended it and then strained the pulp with a nut milk bag, so if my kids won't eat all that lovely fiber, I'll have to do that! :)

Thank you so much! Meanwhile my berries are germinating nicely!! So excited!:)

  • @Torgero sprouting lids

  • YESS

  • Anyone know where to buy wheatgrass seeds in Leicester U.K.?

  • Can i use a shallow container without holes?

  • @mayfranz700 No, it will stay too damp, get mouldy and the seed won't grow well. The container needs to be able to drain

  • @mayfranz700 No, it will stay too damp, get mouldy and the seed won't grow well. The container needs to be able to drain

  • I was going to say the same thing..there are SOOOO many toxins in newspaper and newspaper INK..I'd use a cleaner medium ..NOT newspaper..

  • Dang, I need to find one of those straining lids! Hopefully the Food Co-op will have them.

  • Wow!! Great video!! Thank you, I will do my own now.

  • Thanks man that great video. Can you do this all year round? You mentioned sunlight. Also was it compost you were using?

  • @leahcimrac You need at least a bit of sunlight or the shoots won't be able to form chlorophyll and go green. I think I was using some kind of potting mix in this video. Sometimes compost has micro organisms in it that can be harmful to you if they grow and you inhale them... so it is usually best buried in the ground.

  • Do you have to Cover The WHOLE tray With wheat for it to grow cause i didnt have Enough Sprouted Wheat to fill the whole thing?

  • @legoapple587 No... just the wheat to help it germinate faster

  • what if you just eat the wheat, wouldn't that have more nutrient than the grass?

  • @InnerCityMuscle It would have more carbohydrate, but far less vitamins etc. Wheat is definitely good nutrition, but it forms a whole lot of vitamins as it grows into grass that are really beneficial too.

  • Right before he platend the grass instead of planting it you can eat the sprount in milk wiht cereal motherfuykers

  • @BallerSkier Yeah, you can eat the sprouts too, they are really chewy

  • Great video

  • how long does it live..... how long is it's lifetime?

  • awesome video! thanks

  • thanks!!!

  • Love the videos, keep up the good work

  • Do you know how many chemicals are just in the ink of newspapers? It beats the purpose of "healthy". just put another tray on top of it.

  • @kyryacos soo true! i was thinking the same thing as hes watering the chemicals into the soil.. discusting!

  • @kyryacos do you know that u sound like a brainwashed vegan afraid to touch everything without a big ORGANIC stamp on it?

  • @queenzlink247 People that are not vegans are the ones who are brainwashed.

  • @vineyardedge not necessarily, you can be "awake" to the fact that too much of anything is generally bad for you. The vegan raw food thing is huge in america because we love junk food here. but if we ate more like people in paris we wouldn't even be debating right now.

  • @kyryacos Not to mention that wheat grass will "uptake" all the dioxin and ink particles washed in with the newspaper. Yuck.

  • Awesome video, I loved how simple and straight forward it is. When I first started growing it was this video that cleared up the sprouting process or me.

    LearnToGrowWheatgrass . com

  • Is it true that I shouldn't grind it in a blender cause it hurts the chlorophyll? I have been having trouble finding a wheatgrass juicer here in Prague.

  • What if you don't have sun, can it grow fast and be green?

  • Also, letting the grass grow twice is not advisable. Your apparently not left with many nutrients, and the taste is effected. Cut once then start a new batch if you want quality wheat grass. Just because it grows, doesn't mean its good.

Good video otherwise. I learned a few things.

  • ***One point I don't agree with is putting the newspaper over the top to keep the seeds damp. Newspapers have a lot of chemicals in them, and you don't want your seeds soaking them up and absorbing them. Its advised to use a cloth instead.Otherwise mist them with a spray bottle.*** However Im starting to find not misting them produces the least mold without and fertilizer. However, I did like your yield, so i'll start testing with a cloth. Using a Tshirt wasnt working out for me.

  • @utube76789

    that's a good idea, thanks

  • @utube76789 try a diaper clothe they sell them in wall mart or target they are thin but they do absord they work for me !!! give it a try

  • Best video I've seen.

    Thank you so much!

  • Do you have to use soil? cant you just put it in and it will grow, or does it make it more nutritious?

  • you are lucky to have had that exposure, so important to educate people in a positive way

  • did you read ann wigmore's book on wheatgrass? she is THE EXPERT in the field of wheatgrass, scientist and did most of the research which gives us our current day knowledge .

  • @catluvnj yeah, my mother went to lectures with Ann Wigmore years and years ago so I had all her books when I was growing up. She was definitely a pioneer.

  • i do not think it is advisable to eat the wheat grass, humans can absorb the juice of the plant but not the fiber

  • @catluvnj Yeah, the fibre just passes on through

  • @catluvnj I always spit out the pulp. As Dr Anne and others advised.

  • thanks for the simple and clear instruction video. how much wheatgrass or how many shots do you get from 1 cup? I'm wanting a shot a day, how often do I need to plant?

  • Thanks for this awesome video! It was really easy to follow :-)

  • What do you call the glass jar with the sprouting lid on it thanks

  • only cut it twice you say? how do you regrow it after cutting? won't it keep on growing if in soil outside?

  • @imedbone yes it will keep growing but the level of nutrients will be greatly depleted from the first two cuts

  • Wow that was cool I want to try it

  • very good, thank you for sharing!

  • Great video, thanks man! I m gonna try growing it too now. So basically 2 cuts and you have to use new seeds and grow again?

  • @humparepatta many people dont recommend the seconds harvest its not potent they say and is basically like grass for golf. but since im poor ill use it like 3x..... it will still give me chlorophyll and "life energy" i think. hhehe

  • @himpaolo sp they say all the nutriends aar ein the seed, cant it get somehting from the soil like vegetables do

  • Worked great, thanks!

  • love it

  • Great video, thanks!

  • Great vid, just avoid using newspaper to keep moist. Can use butchers paper.

    :-)

  • i eat the newspaper for the fiber and chew it up to get the ink out, excellent.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

THE NEWSPAPER´S INK HAS GOT CHEMICALS IN IT!

  • What does it do after you cut it twice?

  • Brilliant video. Thank you Sir

  • thanks for video sir. you made it very clear and easy to understand.

  • I have seen people grow their wheatgrass soil-less, and that is what I'd like to do. The guy in this video watch?v=gS8Xch0G0jM&feature=related used a stiff, absorbent pad thingy he called the "Baby Blanket", but he hasn't explained what that is. Do you know where I can get something like that? If not, do you know of some other soil-less, tidy medium I could use that would support the root system?

  • @Chikin1ninjas ShamWow???

  • @Chikin1ninjas ShamWow??? Check Hobby Lobby, Michaels etc

  • I really don't think you should use news paper who knows what its been in contact with plus all of the ink - non bleached paper towels are the way to go! Also, the best way to cut down wheatgrass is a sarated knife staying on the same principle as it being more sanitary than scissors, as well as it being easier and less messy. LOVE WG

  • why do you have to keep rinsing it?

  • @whittle4u Because otherwise the wheat may become to dry or moldy when it is sprouting. After that it needs water to grow the grass well.

  • The Best, simple instruction video on wheatgrass growing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thank you

  • Thank you so much for this video!

    It was really helpful. :D

  • Could you please let me know where I can buy a nice jar like that with the filter lid? I live in Hawaii, but could buy it online if I could find it. Thank you!

  • @markpianoman This is the kind of lid I use dubdubdubdot kingsseeds.co.nz/shop/Seeds+for+Sprouting/The+Sprouting+Lid.html but if you just google 'sprout lid' or 'sprouting lid' I'm sure you will be able to find a retailer closer to you. The lids fit on a variety of jars.

  • What a cool jar with the filter lid...I've never seen those before. I'd probably have to search high and low to find one here in Hawaii. Thanks for the video!

  • its ok to use tap water?

  • @visualkeirockstar Sure, the wheat still grows just fine with tap water

  • You can only cut it twice? So what do you do after the second time?

  • @PeaceUdo You could cut it more, but the nutritional value goes WAY down after the second cut. After that I compost what is left to make more soil :-)

  • @developyourqi I live in Canada with winter coming, what can I do with the roots/left overs? below freezing temp. can compost still be made

    ?

    To our health!@

  • @FletcherHabit dunno, I've never lived somewhere with freezing temperatures. I think compost needs some warmth.

  • @FletcherHabit you can still compost it but it'll take a bit longer with the cold

  • @FletcherHabit you can stick them in your ass, anally induced wheat grass

  • Thanks for the vid!!!

R you concerned the ink is leaking from the news paper which would be absorbed by your wheat grass?

  • @AliveAndPhresh Not not really, nothing much will come off

  • Thanks for sharing this!

  • Thanks man! I'm gonna try this asap :-)

  • Hi great vid! Where did you get the strainer lid for the jar?

  • @Welberooni you can sometimes get them from gardening centres or from health food shops. I imagine they wouldn't be all that hard to make though.

  • @developyourqi Thanks I am soo excited to start growing!

  • @Torgero I've never tired Kamut, but I think it would probably work. Will only take a few days to find out.

  • any problem with the ink in the newspaper leaching into the wheatgrass?

  • @mzimmerman12 I've never had a problem with it. You can always buy some unprinted newsprint if you're worried about that or cover it with something else to keep it dark and damp.

  • can u put wheatgrass in blender with some fruies and make smoothi?

  • @Rachna888 I haven't tried that, but I think you could. It would probably be easier if you juiced it first though as the grass is quite fibrous and your blender may not break it down fully.

  • best video! great quality! very helpful.

  • where do you find the trays? I looked at my local home improvement stores. I guess I need to hit a nursery. do they have drain holes in them?

  • @mzimmerman12 I get them from a garden centre. They are used for raising seeds. Yes the tray needs to have small drain holes in the bottom.

  • Great video!! i'm looking forward to trying your method.

  • @tiatdivad Good on ya mate

  • @tiatdivad Nah, they'll be fine. The sprouts will just lift the paper up as they grow - unless its really really heavy.

  • @tiatdivad fantastic, only a few more days til green wheatgrass goodness!

  • @tiatdivad Good luck!!!

  • great info. wheatgrass is so essential to our diet! I will try to grow some now!

  • where did you buy the wheatgrass seeds? Thank you

  • @driftx2 I buy wheat in bulk from a wholesaler, but you should be able to buy it in small quantities from health food stores

  • Thanks for the video. BTW, what kind of soil did you use for this?

  • @funkkojjo just some potting mix from a garden centre

  • Now I know what I did wrong. Thanks

  • you are right jeff, this is a very good video and very easy explanation. good work developyourqi. make another one with the juice please .

  • Great Video. Ive watched several how to grow wheatgrass and your video was the best. Thanks so much!

  • Thanks for the video!
