I have Ptosis too, its like living while slowly dying, i hate when taking pictures, my eyes doesn't look good when cameras are above me, i just hate it, sometimes i feel like I want to die, I wanna be like the other teens that could look any angles they want without trying to raise their damn eyebrows just to make the vision equal, whenever i walk I always look down so people won't see what kind of curse I have. I wish i could have the same surgery as that.. but I dont have money for that :'(
Dr Parsa, I am 18 and I've had this condition on my left eyelid since i was about maybe around 12 or 13, I hate looking at myself , I hate talking to people, and Ive had surgery done before but no results just made it worse. I even wear shades and lie to people and say I wear them because I am " light sensitive ". Im tired of living like this , please help !
What type of surgery is it called when they fix a droopy eyelid, but they open up the eyebrow? because I have a scar on my eyebrow and I was born with a droopy eyelid and i do recall having to get surgery and i noticed i have a scar under the hair on my eyebrows.
I just find out the name of this condition this week. I've notice since '07 in a pic that my left eye was slightly down. Also, taking pics in '08 I was even noticing it even more. I feel somewhat ashame to take pics, but more so in a group setting because my left eye will or might be off. The only way to deal with this problem, is to put the cam on soft flash, or not to even focus on the flashing light. I'm gonna have to get surgery in the future because i'm afraid my left eye might sag more.
I had surgery to correct ptosis on my left eyelid two weeks ago, and I'm so happy with the results. It was done under local anesthesia with twilight sedation. I was swollen for a few days afterwards, with a bit of yellow discoloration under the eye. The swelling faded faster than I imagined it would and I was only slightly sore for the first day. I didn't even need Tylenol. For anyone with this condition, I highly recommend you look into this procedure. I can't tell you how much better I feel.
I have mild ptosis. I have the option of surgery, however I'm undecided. I am self concious about it, but not so much that I want to risk surgery and scarring. I pose in a 3/4 view in photos which is much more flattering than a full on view anyways. I part my hair on the side where it will kinda disquise the imbalance. I also try to make it less noticable with makeup tricks. Ya I have ptosis and it's still noticeable, but I think I will just embrace my inner "freak" and not let it get me down.
Also, if others have found it helpful, is there anyplace, other than online, where Eye Magic is available? I really don't want to discuss the product with my parents because I don't feel like talking about my condition and I would need their credit card to order it. So I would be pleased if I could just purchase it at a CVS or someplace like that.
I've had ptosis ever since I was born just like many of you who have posted here. It's not nearly an extreme case but it is noticeable. It really does make social situations and eye contact awkward. I've never talked to anyone about it just because I feel embarrassed. I looked up how much the surgery was and found that it is really expensive and that it doesn't always work. But I saw someone mentioned the product Eye Magic a few months back in these comments. Has anyone here used it?
I'm sitting here just spilling out tears because everything she said-i feel.
When I was growing up I just loved life, I never knew I was different, I never knew my eyes weren't the same. As I got older kids in my class would point it out to me, and I'd go home to my family asking why do I get made fun of? Why do people not want to be my friend? They told me to 'ignore it' , I tried. I hit highschool and now I'm just so sheltered. I cant look at people, or take pictures. I wish I could get this
@TearsDontFaall You CAN get this surgery if you choose to. You need to openly discuss this with your parents and tell them how you feel and that you would like to have a ophthalmologic plastic surgeon look at it and discuss your options. Don't feel like you are powerless. You need only to make the decision. I've done the same so I know. Sometimes these things are so embarrassing to talk about. I know... believe me. But until you're an adult, you need to talk to your parents. They will understand
@TearsDontFaall omg i know exactly how you feeel!!! my eyes are getting teary because I thought I was the only one with this condition! and i try to hide it with bangs and it really does work but i have been wearing bangs for 5 years now and i am getting sick and tired of always having to worry about my bangs..like always thinking omg can they see my eye!?? and it makes eye contact really really awkward for me. but im at a point where i just dont want to hide behind the curtains (my bangs) =/
has anyone got any ideas as to what i should do, i have already had 2 operations and nothing has worked. every time i look at a picture my eye just stands out because it is not in proportion with the other, i absoloutly hate it, i cannot even make eye contact with other people because of it. and i want it fixing badly... please post any ideas or message me i will be very grateful.
i have had a lazy eye since i was born. i went into surgery for this first time 4 years ago, to find that the surgery hasnt worked. The surgeon told me to go back in another year to see if things improved. as the times went by, i had been put on the list to have another operation on my eye lid, which was last year in november. another year on and i have still seen no improvement what so ever, i even think that my eyelid is worse now then ever. i am so depressed over it and i want it fixing bad.
I have a droopy eyelid. Not so bad to the extent that it is covering half my eye. But it's still embarrassing and makes one of my eyes look bigger than the other. I am only 14. I am afraid it might get worse over the years. What should i do? :(
@vanillalovelights im 15 and i have the same problem. my aunt asked me if i want surgery for it. i didnt answer because i was shocked that i could get it fixed. it will look like your other eye
I don't know why, but I only have about 1.5mm ptosis on my left eye but I am straining to open it at times. I think the levator muscle in that eye is weak. I had ptosis repair few months ago, but it didn't do crap- have to go in again. This time I think it's covered under medical insurance, because it covers about 50% of my pupil.
I had surgery and the doctor and other people say it worked really well. when i look in the mirror it looks fine, my eyelid doesnt cover my pupil or anything. but in photos i really notice it and it bothers me. even tho the docrot said it was succesful and he was really proud etc i dont agree. i'm thinking bout getting surgery again, but im not sure if u can because the muscle has already been folded, or whatever??
After reading the comments I think a lot of people want a solution to this problem but either can't afford it or don't want surgery performed around their eyes. There are products that can help with this for around $20, one is called Eye Magic
I also have a ptosis in my left eye but thats with marcus-gun jaw wink which is hard to fix. I had a surgery for my droopy eyelid but my eyes are still not equal. I feel like the difference between my two eyes is still very noticeable. My eye also gets dried sometimes if it remains open. I have to wear an eye patch every time i go to sleep. It sucks! I dont think so I have money to do another surgery but its really bothering me=[
I am glad u were able to get help. It looks great!!
i have a lazy eye as well and i'm only 13, i been going to many doctors but they keep sending me to others and apparently they can do nothing for me. my life is miserable i get made fun of i hate taking pictures and i don't like looking at m self in the mirror. My life is depressing i'm sad most of the times, i need help! i live in Perth Amboy New Jersey
My whole comment didn't post, but anyway, I'm exactly one month to the surgery date. Can't wait.
And if anyone considers this procedure, make sure you be on kaiser's (or whatever hospital you have in your area) ass, because they most likely WILL mess up your online info.
Hadn't been for a little mix up, I'd already have done my surgery and been in week 1 of recovery, but awe well, next month.
Everything you just said, I would of put that down in my comment had I not looked at your comment first before posting mines.
My family members (1, which is all that really needed to know) didn't even notice it till I brought it to their attention, but I know that that was b.s.
Seems like people didn't have the guts to tell me, like, man you got something wrong with your eye, maybe you should consider getting that checked out.
i have the same condition on my left eye. not as bad as hers before the surgery...but enough that i would consider a surgery like this...people tell me they havent even noticed it until i brought it to their attention by complaining...but in pictures its really bad...especially with ones that are taking from the side of my face.
I have congenital ptosis on my left eyelid. In 1999 I had a surgery and what the surgeon did he took out of my right leg the facialis and so with this (facialis) they attached the eyelid to the eyebrow totally. So, when I raised the eyebrow the eyelid would automatically raised itself. And 2 months ago I did a second surgery, and the surgeon didn't do anything except he exploited my eyelid a little bit. So the result is pretty much the same. So tell me is there any hope for me!
I just got surgery this Friday by a doctor that did the same procedure at the age of 7 (now 20) I gotta say, nothing look different so far but then again its day 5 and still swollen. Going to see the doc this wed so he can remove the stitches. Can wait. Great doctor by the way. (Dr. Marc Longo)
I called him to his office and i'll going with him at 22 september at 2:00 pm... I hope he can help me with my problem. Like I said one of my eyelid is droopy? the one of the left...
Hey man, I'm just about ur age (im 21) nd i too have quite noticeable eyelid ptosis on my left eye, nd just like u said i hate my life for tht reason. I'm lookin into possible surgeons whom i can trust nd tryin to look for ppl who got it done, so please please lemme know what happened with your case, did u get the surgery done nd how did it go??? Please reply, thnx
I've had ptosis in my left eye since I was a teenager and it's really making me more self-conscious. I've not started to look for care because I'm not sure who to go through firs t- my family doctor or eye doctor? I am in Canada so care may be covered but I doubt it (I do not think it is severe enough).
Hey there, it seems like we have very similar cases. I too am in Canada and have been told that I have very slight ptosis. But it still makes me really self conscious and I feel it's holding me back. Initially, I went to a plastic surgery clinic. They could not help me so I was referred to a specialist. Unfortunately, the surgery did not turn out well so I have been referred to another surgeon in another province (surgery in a couple of weeks). And yes everything has been covered. Good luck.
im a dude i have a Ptosis have had it since i was born i had surgry when i was like 4 or sumthing im 17 now its a bit better but still noticeable i recon. it bothers be heaps everyday :( i feel ya everyone else.
I was born with a slight ptosis in my right eye. I went in for corrective surgery about a month ago, but unfortunately it's worse now than it was before. I'll soon be heading for a second surgery, so I'm wondering what the normal post surgery care is. Are there any limitations? After my surgery I was told I could resume my normal routine right away, which includes a lot of working out. This seems odd to me. I was also told to look up/down 10 times each day. Any help appreciated. Thanks
There are multiple ways to correct a droopy eyelid. It depends on the cause of it. I am not sure what procedure you had. Typically we tell patients to avoid exercise for 3 weeks. I do not know why he wants you to look up and down 10 times a day since every time you look around you are doing that anyways. I hope this helps. Good luck with your next procedure. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact my office at 310 777 8880 to set up a consultation.
Thank you so much for your quick response, I really appreciate it. For me, the surgery was done on the underside of the lid, which I heard can be the least accurate. This time I will follow your advice and take it easy for a while. I meant to say he told me to look up/down 10 times, four times a day. Still though, that seems like added stress to the lid. Thanks again.
@sporemedical hi, have you dealt with droopy eye due to facial hemi atrophy. basically, a weakened brow and lid muscle due to a disease process called rombergs or linear morphea?
my left eye lid is droopy and it makes me look retarded. i have astigmtism on my left eye only, does my eye droop because my astigamatism or droopy eye progresses?
I have the same condition and honeslty I hate my life because of it.
Everyday is an ongoing battle with myself i hate looking at myself in the mirror I hate taking pictures because no matter what i can never hide the way my eye looks
I hate going to school, I hate anything social. I even hate leaving my house just because of this condition, I don't know but i'm just sick of everything. I see my eye doctor in june hopefully he can fix it.
I'm glad your surgery went well, best of luck to you
not so well my eye doctor told me there was nothing HE can do about it, i'm honestly just depressed because i just wan't to be normal like everyone else, have to normal eyes and look normal. I feel like theres nothing left for me
my right eye is farther in my head that my left eye, is there anyway i can fix this? please let me know and thank you so much you're a wonderful person.
@sporemedical hi i would like to talk to u about my situaiton with ,y eyelid i have a terrible life sinc emy surgery and still somthing is wrong and the dr that didi my surgery i dont think he kbnows wats going like she says he thought it was this he thought it was that im tired of searching and nothing...i think im gonna end up loosing my eye
@hiddenplagues i have the same problem and yet my parents don't really need me to see the eye doctor (even though i am 14 and i had this ever since i was born.) but it is really annoying because it is very noticable.
She said at the beginning... she had a surgery to remove a scar from her forehead and the surgeon went up through her eyelid to get to the scar and he damaged/detached the mussle from her eyelid so she didn't have control over it... so she went to have him fix it and he ended up making it worse... so she went to the new surgeon and he fixed it...
I had the same problem withmy eyelid i went to doctors no 1 knew how to treat it i made my reseach n knew it was also the muscle the it detached i hated to see myself in the mirror take pictures or even have myboyfriend look at me cause i was embarressed. Till i went to a plastic suregery doctor and he told me that to let a year pass by that if it didnt come back in place i was going to need surgery, luckly in my case it fixed it self up n now i m back to normal. Although this doc did a good job.
I have a lazy eye. I also hated taking pictures, having my boyfriend look at me, or look some one striaght in the face. Even though I am getting a surgery to fix my lazy eye in Feb of this year, I know how you feel, & what you are going threw.
Thanks, but I actually haven't had the 2nd surgery yet. I'm hoping to hear from the surgeon next week. Unfortunately, he is very busy and there's usually a long waiting list. I was lucky to see him so soon the first time around. I really hope I can get this taken care of soon and everything goes well. This condition is really starting to affect all other areas of my life. I just want to get on with it, and start living up to my potential. Thanks again for asking.
Good luck.

@sporemedical hi, have you dealt with droopy eye due to facial hemi atrophy. basically, a weakened brow and lid muscle due to a disease process called rombergs or linear morphea?

my left eye lid is droopy and it makes me look retarded. i have astigmtism on my left eye only, does my eye droop because my astigamatism or droopy eye progresses?

did she have a lazy eye or wat or did she have sumthing else

She said at the beginning... she had a surgery to remove a scar from her forehead and the surgeon went up through her eyelid to get to the scar and he damaged/detached the mussle from her eyelid so she didn't have control over it... so she went to have him fix it and he ended up making it worse... so she went to the new surgeon and he fixed it...

Although this doc did a good job.

I have a lazy eye. I also hated taking pictures, having my boyfriend look at me, or look some one striaght in the face. Even though I am getting a surgery to fix my lazy eye in Feb of this year, I know how you feel, & what you are going threw.

How did your surgery go? I hope well.
