awesome cheers for the vid I ordered one of these fe12's after seeing this for my Samsung W200 & it works a treat. Infact the ebayer messed up the order and accidently sent me 2 sshhh, so i have 2 for 13 pounds. I don't trust the magnetic ring so i also added a much bigger metal washer over the top of it using adheisive & it is sturdy as anything. I also fit a rubber 3-4inch washer around the base of the lens and attached a string so if it gets knocked off i won't lose it. brilliant :)
Do you think it would fit on an Aiptek Z600? I get that you say that it would fit to pretty much any pocket camera but i'd like to make sure before I buy. :)

I use a 0.67 on my HD mini dv cam and this has a magnetic ring which is 13mm OD, your review says the rings for both lenses mentioned at the same but looking at Deal Extreme web site the FE50 is 13mm and the the FE 12 (best lense) is actually 15mm OD. I'm just wondering if the 15mm mag mount will fit well on my 13mm mount ring which is already glued on the camera? Any ideas please?
Hey, Mike. Like a ton of other folks, I want to thank you for this clip. I bought the 15mm FE-12 for my Playsport. This thing is a steal! The quality is so good, I use the lens virtually all of the time.

I must say however that it flare easily and add a significant amount of chromatic aberration, especially purple fringing, but this is typical of those lens adapters, a small hood might help with the flaring
got mine from deal extreme, real nice on the zx3 with the 1080p setting, it almost turn it into a gopro, also it reduce the minimum focusing distance to about 1' instead of 3', that's a 17$ well spend :)

@Theokondak Reminder, It's a $20 accessory. I bought a second one, just in case there is long term effects. I've had mine in lake water, pool water, both salt and chlorine, and I have had no bad effects. It's been dropped several times and has lots of war wounds from plenty of use. Still works great. Yes, condensation can get inside, but it dries pretty quick.

This is a crock of ****. Bought the latter one a few weeks ago, arrived the other day - and it is SH*T!! Compared video quality with it off and then on, and with it on the quality is reduced by about 60-70%, and it is blury in the corners. Not a good lens at all. Wouldn't recommend getting it. Looks like you just got a fluke good one or a better one in the wrong packaging mate! Gutted mine is crap.

On the Kodak site, I saw that they sell a lens "fish eyes".Do you think it is as good as this lens FE-12? On the site it costs 39euros, a bit expensive... I received it today after 1.5 mounts, and i'm afraid it won't stay in place if i use it when snowboarding and windsurfing. Anyone has a trick to make it stay right on place? Why they didn't put a small rope to attach the lens on the camera in case of falling?

@camarosam it's a magnetic lens. you can loose the lens at any time. It looks like the Playsport was made by people who never do any sports. No fish eye, no mount accessories, 1080 setting is unusable when moving and so on...
will this create the circle effect on some cameras?? that on some fisheyes you can see the rounded lens on the eges and its black, will it do that on the kodak zi6?
@RCBsk8r I had the Zi6 and this lens and there was no ring shown. I would expect to see the ring if the lens it was attached to was already wide angle.

I'm enjoying the lens so much, I've ordered another one. This way, if anything happens to the first one, I'll have a back up. I'm also going to do a video about it's use on the Ipod Touch/iPhone. Watch for it soon.

@sscarll I just used the peel and stick. It's been in a pool or underwater for several hours over last summer, and it's still secure. Clean the camcorder area (lens) to be applied to. Carefully peel the protective sticker off the ring, and apply. I didn't touch the sticky part or reapply. One shot for best results.
@sicksicksick9 I applied mine once and it stuck. My lens came with two rings. I'd clean the area to apply the ring and try the second one. Don't touch the sticky part and work clean.
I just ordered the ZX3 yesterday and going to use it as my car recording system, the 15mm lens will help a lot, just ordered it at the deal extreme web site. Now, I'm not worry that I ordered something that have problem or something that doesn't function well. Thanks for the review.
Mike... I know you mentione to others going under water with it, and shown this as well, did you ever show them what happens afterwards? The lens will collect Moisture and some will not know how to disperse it once in. a top of a toaster oven will do the trick 1hr. will see if another of your vids mention any issues? For tose who went under water and are upset, do not blame the OP.
Yes, sometimes I get clouding or moisture inside the lens. Generally it dries on it's own and hasn't been an issue for me. But thank you for coming up with the tip. I'm guessing a hair dryer would also work well.
I just got mine after exactly 2 months. Have you switched to take pictures on the playsport with the lens? It definitely gives you more of a fisheye and you can see where the lens is placed at the bottom.
I have taken some pictures, but I don't see any of the lens. I do some the lens when I use it with the inside lens of my iPod Touch (4th gen). But I love the almost circle shaped video it produces.

@mangojambo I've tried it with my new iPod Touch (Thanks Santa) and I love the effect using the lens on the inside lens of the iPod Touch 4th gen. The ring doesn't fit well on the outside of the iPod due to the shape. I've planned to mod a case to hold the lens without using the ring. I'll let you know how it goes.

@SkyHenry64 AH Nevermind! I just tried out the fisheye that I already had on my zx3 and noticed that It goes on the INSIDE of the metal ring on the camera as opposed to ON the metal ring. I got confused because I also had a wide angle lens that attached to the metal ring on the camera and not on the inside. But upon closer inspection of both cameras, the fisheye eve went on the metal camera ring to begin with. Thanks for the video regardless! I probably would've bought a second fisheye otherwise
Has anyone figured out a lighting solution for the Playsport? I'm about to test attaching a mini led flashlight to the Playsport. The flashlight is about 3 inches long.
Just ordered one of these based on your review. I'm trying to be cautious, especially making sense of the amusingly translated instructions. It seems I need to glue a magnetic sticker directly on my Playsport glass lens? The rings that came with mine are small (9mm inner diameter, 12mm outer). How careful do you need to be to keep it centered? Seems easy to get it off center by accident. Does the adhesive muck up the glass if the ring comes off later? Is the ring and its glue waterproof?T
@grapes2vino The lens includes 2 rings that are ready for sticking. Peel and stick.
Yes, try and get it in the middle. Mine wasn't exactly centered, bt I've seen no ill effects. I've applied one ring and it's not moved or shifted since I've had it. That includes countless times in our salt-water pool. Am I worried if it does come off? No, not at all. The glass would clean up easily and I'll stick on the second rig that was included.

@eladbari I have found after extended time in the pool or under the water, that some condensation does collect in the lens. The lens was probably never intended to be under water for long periods, but I'm thinking with some sort of solvent, the lens can be sealed. Heck, I might just try some Vaseline around the lips of the lens.
@MMMMMike5 sounds cool, Mike :] where are those 'lips of the lens' located exactly? if its the contact of the metal and the lens-then there might be a chance that the Vaseline will distort the image or something, i think?
I bought one based on your great review. I was happy until I took it underwater. Apparently, they're not all waterproof. Trying to dry it out now, but it doesn't look good.
@aztomtom Although initially I didn't have any leakage, the lens does fog up after a 1/2 hour or so underwater. So yes, buyer beware. What about some sealant, Vaseline around the edges? If I leave the fogged lens for awhile, it completely clears and ready for the next video. Sorry you're experience wasn't better.
Just ordered mine after watching this. I assume the lens will also help reducing the perception of camera shaking, just like zooming out on a regular zoom lens. Have you noticed any difference on this respect? Thanks for the video!
@gsmaciel Oh hell yah! I use face detection and the steady setting, but once you go with a wideangle, the shake is virtually unnoticed. Near the end of the video when I'm walking around the yard, the video is shot at arms length without any other steadi-equiment.

@Theokondak This lens does not have the macro option. I did buy the wide angle with the macro from Deals Extreme, and the macro worked great.

@camarosam The lens stays secure pretty good, although it would be susceptible to bumps or jolts that could make the lens slide off the metal ring.

The lens ring is 13mm. This is the ring that sticks to your camcorder.
In the video I talk about 13mm and 15mm, that is the width of the glass lens itself.
The 15mm is the clearer lens.

Not sure from reading the post and about the peel and stick, did you glue it on to your camera, or just use the peel and stick?

@sscarll I just used the peel and stick. It's been in a pool or underwater for several hours over last summer, and it's still secure. Clean the camcorder area (lens) to be applied to. Carefully peel the protective sticker off the ring, and apply. I didn't touch the sticky part or reapply. One shot for best results.

the FE-50 has a better quality shot but you cant go wrong with the FE-12 and the complete fisheye

I can't get the magnetic ring to stick enough to the lens, everytime i pull the lens off the ring comes off too

@sicksicksick9 I applied mine once and it stuck. My lens came with two rings. I'd clean the area to apply the ring and try the second one. Don't touch the sticky part and work clean.

I just ordered the ZX3 yesterday and going to use it as my car recording system, the 15mm lens will help a lot, just ordered it at the deal extreme web site. Now, I'm not worry that I ordered something that have problem or something that doesn't function well. Thanks for the review.

Mike... I know you mentione to others going under water with it, and shown this as well, did you ever show them what happens afterwards? The lens will collect Moisture and some will not know how to disperse it once in. a top of a toaster oven will do the trick 1hr. will see if another of your vids mention any issues? For tose who went under water and are upset, do not blame the OP.

Yes, sometimes I get clouding or moisture inside the lens. Generally it dries on it's own and hasn't been an issue for me. But thank you for coming up with the tip. I'm guessing a hair dryer would also work well.

I just got mine after exactly 2 months. Have you switched to take pictures on the playsport with the lens? It definitely gives you more of a fisheye and you can see where the lens is placed at the bottom.

I have taken some pictures, but I don't see any of the lens. I do some the lens when I use it with the inside lens of my iPod Touch (4th gen). But I love the almost circle shaped video it produces.

@vivasykes I haven't tested it on other cameras, but it works well with my iPod Touch (4th gen) too.
For wonderful almost round video capture, I used the ring on the inside lens of the iPod Touch.
I'm trying to find a case I can mod to have the lens fit on the outside, without attaching the ring.

@mangojambo I've tried it with my new iPod Touch (Thanks Santa) and I love the effect using the lens on the inside lens of the iPod Touch 4th gen. The ring doesn't fit well on the outside of the iPod due to the shape. I've planned to mod a case to hold the lens without using the ring. I'll let you know how it goes.

@SkyHenry64 AH Nevermind! I just tried out the fisheye that I already had on my zx3 and noticed that It goes on the INSIDE of the metal ring on the camera as opposed to ON the metal ring. I got confused because I also had a wide angle lens that attached to the metal ring on the camera and not on the inside. But upon closer inspection of both cameras, the fisheye eve went on the metal camera ring to begin with. Thanks for the video regardless! I probably would've bought a second fisheye otherwise

Just ordered one of these based on your review. I'm trying to be cautious, especially making sense of the amusingly translated instructions. It seems I need to glue a magnetic sticker directly on my Playsport glass lens? The rings that came with mine are small (9mm inner diameter, 12mm outer). How careful do you need to be to keep it centered? Seems easy to get it off center by accident. Does the adhesive muck up the glass if the ring comes off later? Is the ring and its glue waterproof?T

@grapes2vino The lens includes 2 rings that are ready for sticking. Peel and stick.
Yes, try and get it in the middle. Mine wasn't exactly centered, bt I've seen no ill effects. I've applied one ring and it's not moved or shifted since I've had it. That includes countless times in our salt-water pool. Am I worried if it does come off? No, not at all. The glass would clean up easily and I'll stick on the second rig that was included.

@eladbari thank god its finallly dry. I put it into the warm windy place (inside my computer:)) over night and it seems fine now.
anyway, its definetely not good for underwater use...

@eladbari i put it onto cpu heatsink = stream of air with temperature about 50°C :D
I left it in regular conditions on my desk for 24h with no improvement, then for about 10h inside the computer and that worked :)

@eladbari I have found after extended time in the pool or under the water, that some condensation does collect in the lens. The lens was probably never intended to be under water for long periods, but I'm thinking with some sort of solvent, the lens can be sealed. Heck, I might just try some Vaseline around the lips of the lens.

I bought one based on your great review. I was happy until I took it underwater. Apparently, they're not all waterproof. Trying to dry it out now, but it doesn't look good.

@aztomtom Although initially I didn't have any leakage, the lens does fog up after a 1/2 hour or so underwater. So yes, buyer beware. What about some sealant, Vaseline around the edges? If I leave the fogged lens for awhile, it completely clears and ready for the next video. Sorry you're experience wasn't better.

Just ordered mine after watching this. I assume the lens will also help reducing the perception of camera shaking, just like zooming out on a regular zoom lens. Have you noticed any difference on this respect? Thanks for the video!

@gsmaciel Oh hell yah! I use face detection and the steady setting, but once you go with a wideangle, the shake is virtually unnoticed. Near the end of the video when I'm walking around the yard, the video is shot at arms length without any other steadi-equiment.
