China and Taiwan claim the Diaoyu islands (Senkaku in Japanese) have been a part of Chinese territory since at least 1534. They acknowledge that Japan took control of the islands in 1894-1895 during the first Sino-Japanese War, through the signature of the Treaty of Shimonoseki. The Potsdam Declaration (which Japan accepted as part of the San Francisco Peace Treaty ending its involvement in World War II) required that Japan to return the above islands to China.

Obviously, these territories weren't an issue previously until their economic significance became know to China. The Chinese government should take the "mature" and correct action and apologize for their wrong-doing. They should even go as far as punishing the fisherman on the boat responsible for this action. What remains to be hear is "who exactly gave" those orders that encouraged the Chinese ship to behave so aggressively.

You have no idea that Japanese coast guard doesn't have any right to fight or shoot against Chinese spy boat. Because America made a law after the WWII not to use any guns so we need to change the law. We are not afraid of Chinese. You need to understand that America ordered to do that in 1945. We need to build army and navy again.

We need to punish Chinese who lie and they don't obey no rule and comes to Japanese territory. China copies all the Japanese technology or steal our technology .

@akulabite The Japanese patrol boat did not intercept the Chinese fishing boat. The Chinese boat suddenly turned left and crashed into the Japanese boat. Look at the bubble behind the Chinese boat at 1:13. Thanks.

@ghoa8630 But I think the problem is: Chinese think the water is Chinese territory, so no matter who run into who, Japanese ships are invading China. In the mean time Japanese will think the water is Japanese and Chinese ship is invading Japanese. It can't be solved by arguing or force, the only way is to talk, a fair compensate is needed after one side surrender the claim. Anyway, it is politics, in modern time, civilized countries like China and Japan won't go into war again.

Only recently when China found there was plenty of natural resources under the waters near the islands, it started claiming the islands were Chinese territory. China does the same thing in South East Asia. "Talk" is important, but it sometimes doesn't work without firm actions, if the other party is a country like China. China will take the islands, while Japan says "Let's talk!" This is what the Japanese have learned.

@ghoa8630 There is dispute because there are some reason to dispute, and every side think they are "right". Technically butts determines the brains. As far as I know, in the 60s, current Taiwan president was activistor on the issue - so that's not "recently" anyway. If you think from Chinese point of view, they will say the same "talk is important but it sometimes doesn't work without firm actions, if the other party is a country like Japan blabla", and that won't solve the problem.
