  • monitor size?

  • Nice rig Chad! How did you build the box that your Logitech shifter sits on? I want to mount the Thrustmaster. Also, thanks for the detailed build list.

  • Hello Chad. This is my Sim Racing Cockpit, similar to yours.

You can see on my channel.

Thank You for posting on 'The Way I Play'.

  • Corbeau is crap mastercraft safety all the way man :)

  • Outstanding piece of equipment. I want a racing rig just like that in the future!

  • LUCKYYYYYYYYYYY

  • Don't mean to sound like a noob but how did u attach your bucket seat to the base was there brackets or was there drilled holes? cheers.

  • @OddSocKzz

Yes, the seat came with sliders that attach to the bottom of the seat. I just bolted the feet of the sliders to a piece of wood and then bolted the piece of wood to my frame.

  • good work

  • hey agian where did u get the frex shifter from i looked on there website and it said like 12000 yen or something

  • @iracingAddict02

Yes, that is the website. He ships from Japan. There is a drop down menu somewhere on the website that will change the prices to USD.

You may also want to check out derekspearedesign(dot)com

He sells a really good sequential shifter.

  • Sorry for all the questions, but what is that square tubing called?

  • @GameCoLand

The square tubing is called SteelWorks. It is from Lowe's in the Hardware section.

You may also want to look for 80/20

Looks a little better, but it is more expensive I believe.

  • What size drill bits should i use to drill the holes in the MDF board??

  • @GameCoLand

That depends on the bolt size.

I used a 5/16th drill bit I believe. If that is too small you can use the step above.

  • @chadsmith20 thank you for all your help. I now you get a lot of question on this vid☺☺

  • hey i was wondering what pc u have excatly like is it a hp?

  • @iracingAddict02

It is one that I built myself about two years ago. It has and Intel E8400 CPU and a VistionTek 6870 video card.

  • Hey man I have been a fan of you channel for over a year, love the vids. I have seen your post on how to build this racing cockpit. I have one question, is it easy to cut that steel?? I don't have any power tools, and also do you know what gauge that steel is??

  • @GameCoLand

Thanks for continuing to watch my videos!

I'm not going to lie the tubing is not easy to cut. I used a hacksaw and it got the job done, but it was really tiring. I'm not sure about the gauge either.

You might consider looking at 80/20 tubing. A lot of people like that stuff and I think you can get it pre-cut.

  • What seat can I use, will any car seat work?? And how do you go about mounting it??

  • @GameCoLand

Almost any car seat will work. My very first seat was from a junk yard out of a Honda Civic.

I mounted mine by getting a piece of MDF board and cutting it to size. Then I sat my seat on top of the board and marked the holes where I needed to drill. Then you can just bolt it up.

If you use on from a junk yard you will probably only be able to bolt the front of the seat down because the back mounting points are using angled.

  • how much ?

  • How much degrees of rotation you're using in rFactor?

  • Could you tell me the angle of the side monitors to the center?

  • @Notscherl

42 degress. There is actually a formula that will tell you the optimal angle for the side monitors, but I can't think of what is called. I have been running 42 degrees since I've had them set up.

  • @chadsmith20

thx! keep those great videos coming!

  • @chadsmith20

    members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/1330466.page

  • @Notscherl

Yep that's the one. Thanks! And what do you know I'm the second post.

  • i feel like your a single guy or your wife must really love you haha

  • @atvking04032

I guess my wife just really loves me. :D

  • Hey Chad is that the 350mm sized wheel? I'm looking at the same one, not sure what size to go with though.

  • @jayKay098

Mine is a 330mm wheel. I think it is good size. It really depends on what cars you drive. It is going to be really weird driving the Star Mazda with a big 330-350mm wheel, that is why I have two. :)

  • @chadsmith20 Cool yeah i might get that wheel from seeing this video, it looks real nice. I think that size is good...a 350mm might be a little tough for road racing.

  • Hey do you need three of those

  • Hi, can you reUP photos into the site thewayiplay

    beacouse they're deleted ; (

  • @GTClubTV

Yes I can sorry about that, was moving files around in PhotoBucket and they must have broken the links. Will get on that shortly.

  • $800 for all

  • Nice, now you just need to add all that motion stuff. Do you have a Butt Kicker II by chance? That's a great mod and is relatively cheap.

  • How much in total?

  • THAT IS BADASS. DO YOU RACE NR2003 AT ALL? I WAS THE MAIL PAINTER FOR THE COT MOD WHEN IT WAS RELEASED BY SUPERSPEEDWAY RACING.

    SHIFT THE GEAR, DRIVE ON.

  • @HiOctane62

No I have never race NR2003. I know a lot of people used to race there and are now on iRacing. I mostly race iRacing and some LFS.

  • @chadsmith20

Not to be a pain but could u tell me all the parts u did? Like what parts did u use, (graphics card etc) would help alot.

    Cheers Tom

  • @chadsmith20

    Thanks bud!!

  • Hey Chad

Your missing some final photos on your How to - Fully Adjustable Sim Rig on the way I play forum...Sweet Rig

  • Nooby question but what's the desktop thing not the monitors but the box thing that runs it all what is it called like the name cause I would like to get into iracing soon :) cheers Tom

  • @Obsession4Supra2JZ

It is called the computer tower, I think :)

I built mine, but you could find one that would be great for iRacing at mainperformancepc(dot)com.

He makes PC's specifically for iRacing.

  • Looks pretty damn awesome, man. Good job!

  • @Jinxtah123

    Thanks man!

  • @chadsmith20

How much did you roughly spend on it? It got me considering making something similar.

  • @Jinxtah123

I don't really remember. Roughly, including the computer tower, I would say around $2-3000. I haven't really kept track of everything.

  • @chadsmith20

Fair enough. 3k isn't bad at all.

  • @chadsmith20 $2 dollars you say? TAKE MY MONEY DAMNIT

    =] hahaha.... lol.

  • @chadsmith20 good job buddy..

  • This is my dream.

  • Nice frame. I didnt see anywhere in the post here on how much the frame cost was. Do ya remember around how much the frame was? Also, what program for the sli-m? Or is it just a bodnar circuit board in the box? Thanks

  • @thrandisher

Just the bare frame, no seat f anything cost $250-300 for everything.

The SLi-m program is downloaded from leo bodnar's website.

  • @chadsmith20 Ok, thanks! Ive been wanting to build a flight cockpit for about 15 years now and gave up due to room and how live has gone. So ive dug deep into racing and sticking with that. Time to get a 14th morgage and start in on s setup!

  • Great Rig! Question, your SLIM Box you said you purchased from Radio Shack, was it complete or did you modify it?

  • @xplicitkillr

Thanks! The box didn't have the holes in it to fit the SLI-m. I found a diagram for the SLI-m and just drilled the holes in the box from radio shack. Then I mount the box to the top of my steering wheel.

  • @Jameziiboii

    ok

  • @Jameziiboii gay

  • @Jameziiboii jealous retard. you can't even afford a camera since you post those retarded videos with 1x1 resolution.

  • @Jameziiboii It makes me laugh hard reading comments like those . IT IS a hobby you fucking retards AND IT IS A HOBBY FOR RICH PEOPLE kthanksbye

  • Comment removed

  • @Jameziiboii If you don't like it, then fuck off and don't comment.

  • What game/simulator are you running on that rig?

  • @kolton5543

    iRacing

  • Seriously nice DIY rig. Great job!

  • @hasido16

    Thanks!

  • Hi, just a question... what's the name of your sequential gearbox ? Thanks ! Fred

  • Nice rig good work !

  • How did you get the g27 shifter to work with the g25?

  • @snipski0894

    Get a G27 wheel. :)

  • @chadsmith20 Just rewatched the video, thought you said g25 instead of g27 :)

  • I didn't know that Clubsport pedals work with G27.

  • @cortkatanakx1q

The ClubSports are stand alone USB, they will work with any wheel, or even without a wheel.

  • @chadsmith20 Really? That's great because I was thinking about G27 with different pedals.

  • @cortkatanakx1q

Yea, if you want to improve your braking, you definitely need a load cell brake pedal.

The two most common load cell brake pedals are ClubSports and CSTs. The ClubSports are nice if you don't want to drop the money on CSTs.

I tried CSTs a long time ago and they were awesome, but they will cost you $600-1200.

  • niceee!!... I need one of those.

  • If you don't mind me asking, how much do you think that entire thing costs?

  • @clintonhockey30

Including the computer, probably about $3000.

  • @chadsmith20 Alright cool, thanks. I'd love something like this.

  • Damn reaching the paddleshifters seems veeeeerrry hard with a wheel that big :)

  • Chad, is that a 330mm or 350mm momo mod 78 wheel?

  • @omrimon

    330mm

  • How do you like that seat? I'm looking at buying the same exact one for my sim.

  • @Mr47driver

It is not too bad. It took a lot of adjusting before I got it to feel comfortable. It was making the back of my leg fall asleep for the longest time. The only way to fix that was tilt it pretty far back, now it feels pretty good.

  • Hi Chad, Im trying to get a Cobra Racing Seat on craigslist for my rig, how comfortable do you think it would be?

  • @PowerstrokeRacing24

Man, it is really hard to tell. It can be really comfortable it you can adjust it. You will definitely need to be able to tilt it if it is a fixed back racing seat. If it is a reclining seat then you don't really need to worry about adjustability because it is built into the seat.

Also, most racing seats don't have much padding, so keep that in mind. My first seat was from a Honda Civic, but it looked really ugly. lol I like my racing seat much better.

  • @chadsmith20 Ya its a fixed seat but i'll get it to work! Happy Racing

  • You change from a GT3rs to a G27? Can you explain me why?

    Thanks.

  • @M1eX

I wanted to change the actual steering wheel using the chilicoke adapter. So I chose the G27.

Both are great wheels, but I was not able to change the steering wheel on the GT3 RS so I went with the G27.

  • Was going to build it today, but lowe's didn't have enough tubing in stock.

I just one last question, I promise. :)

You have three 1.25" tubing that sits on the floor with 1.5" tubing on top of it. I see these are bolted together, but doesn't the nut and bolt stick out? How do these 1.25" tubing sit flat on the floor?

    Thanks again for your time.

  • @dj0100

Yes the bolt sticks out on the bottom. I'm on carpet so it doesn't really matter, but if you are on a hard floor, I would get some kind of feet or wheels.

I went back over plans and noticed that I put bolts that are a 1/4" or 3/4". The bolts only come in 1/2" or whole. So if you are using my plans you are just going to have to guess.

I cut the tubing with an 18T hacksaw blade.

  • @chadsmith20 Cool that will work, thanks for all your help!

  • Sorry few more questions. lol

Do you happen to know what gauge or thickness the box tubing is?

    Is it steel or aluminum?

How did you mount your seat?

Do you think inverted pedals would work on this?

    Thanks for your time!

  • @dj0100

I think it is 14 gauge, you can find it at Lowe's in the Hardware section.

It is steel. The brand is Steel Works.

I mount the seat to a piece of MDF board and the mounted the board the base of the rig.

Inverted pedals might work, but you will have to get creative and add some piece if tubing to it.

Check my Sim Racing Rig and look at the description. There is a complete walk through on how to build it.

  • @chadsmith20

Awesome, thanks so much for your help!

  • Awesome rig! Do you get any movement or is it rigid?

  • @dj0100

No it is solid. They way the tubing it bolted together makes it very rigid. It is not the prettiest, but it does everything I need it to.

  • Hey chad, Awsome setup you have here. I wanted to ask you, whats the meterial called that you used to build the frame? I've wanted to try build something similar.

    Thanks dude

  • @souldrifting Thanks!

It is called Steel Works. It is in the Hardware section next to the nuts and bolts.

But honestly, I would recommend buying the Obutto. It is a very reasonably priced rig and has some good adjustments.

You could probably build my rig for a little cheaper, but the Obutto would probably be the better choice.

  • @chadsmith20 Just had a look at the obutto, looks pretty decent still pricey though. I think theres just something about your setup that looks a little cooler any ways, might be because it was diy and has a real race seat on it ;)

  • @souldrifting I actually just saw your build thread. Its really helpful!

  • Love that setup!

  • Why you have the real mirror off?

  • Why did you go to the G27 over the Fanatec GT3 RS wheel? Have you ever thought about getting a different H-pattern shifter?

  • @Reason0684

I mainly went with the G27 because you can change the steering wheels and that is not possible on the Fanatec.

I'd like to get a new h-shifter, but all of them are $200+. So it will probably be a while. I still have some little things I would like to add and then I would like to add SimXperience Universal Motion Kit.

  • @chadsmith20: That is a good reason to go with the G27. I just can't stand the way the G27 feels so I'm either going to get the new Fanatec GT3 wheel or if I could find a good mod to help the G27, I'll do that. I currently have the Act Labs shifter and LOVE it. Definitely worth the money.

What other things would you like to add? You already answered a question I was going to ask about making it into a motion simulator...that's in my recent future for when I build a cockpit. :)

  • @Reason0684

The GT3 RS is a good wheel. It felt perfectly fine to me. But like I said, I needed to be able to switch wheels.

As for the little stuff, I plan to buy two quick releases to mount on my wheels. And that's all I can think of right now. :)

Whenever something new pops up I usually want to buy it, so then it goes on my wishlist. lol. I haven't really seen anything in a while though.

  • Can you PM your email? I don't want to take over your video and some replies are larger than Youtube allows.

  • Really awesome. =)

  • This is very good, you inspired me to do it as well, I will go with the dell U2410 they are on sale right night, Is there a diagram for the setup? that wheel in the skip barber video, where can i get that

  • Awesome!

The rig, Is that the square fit telescopic tubing???

  • nice! thx for share!

  • That's absolutely brilliant. You just given me something to do foe the next week! Thank you so much.

Just wondering how do you find the clubsport pedals compared to the logitech ones? And that frex shifter does it have a nice solid feel to the shift? The combination looks the goods. Might even do something like that. Also when will the design for the monitor stand be posted? ;)

    Regards

  • @tagpm Thanks!!

The ClubSports are great compared to Logitech pedals. The loadcell on the ClubSports give you much more control while braking.

Yes the Frex shifter has a good feel to it. Much better than just that clicking sound on other wheels.

I will try to get the monitor design up in about a week. It is really simple, but you can't really tell from the pictures.

  • Wow love the rig!! Any chance I could get some dimensions? I wanna build something like that! Willing to work out a deal if you want to.

  • @tagpm

There is a How to in the description. It has the whole build process except the monitor stand.

  • Brilliant sim. Any chance of more drifting videos? subbed :)

  • Is it possible to reach the paddles from the G27 with the Momo 78?

  • @al1asx

Yes. You have to reach a little farther, but it is possible.

Chilicoke makes longer paddles now, just check out his website.

  • Great setup!! I have a quick question, what is the SLIM box and how does it work? Does it interface with the frex shift+ somehow?

  • @thh204

The SLI-m displays your RPM and is a gear indicator. You just download a program. Frex and SLI-m are two different things.

    Check out,

    leobodnar(do)com if you are interested.

  • @chadsmith20 thanks Chad, i have two more questions. How did you hook up the FREX shifter, did you need to modify the G27? Also, the SLI-M, you said you bought a box from radio shack? What was that box and what kind of connection do you use to connect it to your PC? Thanks for the help! I am using your setup as a model for the one I'd like to build.

  • @thh204

I will make a video. That would be much easier than me explaining it.

  • @chadsmith20 thanks!! I'm sure it would help out many others too!

  • How do you like the ATI 5970? Any advantages over a TripleHead2Go? Love the setup, been following your setup om TWIP

  • That looks like one of the more comfortable rigs around. Nice job.

  • @bryanmr2

    Thanks!

  • You Rule Chad! Can't wait to see ya on the track sometime!

  • Very Nice indeed

    More video's please...lol

  • bella! very nice...clap clap ^_^

  • Nice :)

  • Nice rig man! Love it!
