Yikes, they are right. These straps are MUCH too loose. Nurses are not car seat techs, and this nurse would not be the first one to make a mistake. You should not be able to pinch any slack at the shoulders. This is true for older babies and toddlers, too.
Bryson is at risk for ejection in a crash with straps like this.
oh my gosh. they are right. Please visit a CPST for help with your car seat. Nurses often have no proper training about car seats. You should not be able to pinch any slack at the shoulders. If you can, the straps are too loose.
how does everyone know they didn't tighten it further? they were still in the hospital room, maybe he tightened it in the car a little more. hopefully :)
Folks I care about my son and this was two days after he was born. So I am a carying father and care very much about him and now that he is a year old I am sure he has got it all figured out. Thanks for your concern. Your supposed to be able to put your fingers under the strap and the nurse used hers which are smaller than mine. Thanks again.
Cute video of baby's first time in a car seat, but I agree with the others that the straps are WAY too loose.. The nurse who was helping you should have known that. You should only be able to get two fingers under the straps.
the straps are way too loose... to get them where they should be, pull the chest clip and pads all the way down and pull all the slack into the shoulders.
then, pull the straps tight until you can pinch no slack at the shoulders
finally, pull the pads up to his shoulders and the harness retainer clip/chest clip up to his armpits.
the way the straps are now, in a crash, he would be ejected.

I hope you have since learned how to tighten the straps on your infant seat, your baby could be thrown right out of the seat you have them so loose.
