Thanks, just downloaded snow leopard through flash drive. Can you tell now how can I erase everything from USB and make it work how it was before. Thanks
@kakoru5 The .dmg you need to copy is 6.69GB So I'd say if you have a 500GB Hard Drive or whatever I partitioned it into two and named one Snow Leopard dedicating just 10GB to it which was easily enough.
Well, after two days and many emotions, IT EFFIN WORKED! I LOVE YOU, MAN! NO HOMO but seriously you're a life saver. THIS WORKS IF IT DOESNT FOR YOU THEN YOUR NOT DOING SOMETHING RIGHT.
It worked like a charm. Extremely easy with no problems!! Great tutorial. NOTE: It will NOT erase anything off of your computer if you just continue the install. It will just upgrade your OS. So do not worry.
i'm getting an error at 36 procents of instalation:
it says: cannot copy importend files to disc. Does sombody have the same problam and does somebody know how i can solve it. I came this far god dammit:p Is it maybe because i used my ipod 6the generation.
hej man,i done everything and it doesnt work, the proces to do the usb took 4 hours and when it boot up after with function key the usb is not an option, just macintosh hd.any help?
Well that was a fucking waste of time! It just says Could not validate source - Resource busy! Why can't these things just be simple?? Why make everything so dam hard??
for those using osx 10.4.11 or earlier you make be screwed like me because there is an error in the disc utility that makes the destination field unusable
@wetcarpetemptycup I am using 10.4 and I got past the disc utility part. But then i get an error that says installer could not copy the necessary support files. worst of all i was doing a clean install. Dun dun dunnn
for some reason when I am in the restore section of disc utility I can choose the dmg. file as a source but I can't choose anything for the destination. Can you help me out here? thnx
Also, u didn't address anything about the partitioning whatsoever. My vol. scheme under my partition tab is set to Current. Am I supposed to change that to 1 partition or another number partition? And in my Options tab in that partition setting, it's set to Master Boot Record. In some videos, I've seen others change that to GUID Partition Table. Do I change any of those settings or do I skip all of that like how you've done in this video because I've been confused watching all these vids
Can you please explain how to do this procedure on a Tiger 10.4.11? Under the Erase Tab underneath name, it has a check that says install mac 09 disk driver and goes onto explain directly underneath: Select this option to use this device on a computer running Mac OS 9. This option does not affect Classic. I want to uncheck it but I'm not sure. Do I leave that checked or do I uncheck it?
if i were to do this with a USB flash drive, what would be a good size to get? the .dmg file i have is 6.13 GB, so would an 8GB flash drive be alright or do i need any additional space for anything unseen?
if i were to do this with a USB flash drive, what would be a good size to get? the .dmg file i have is 6.13 GB, so would an 8GB flash drive be alright or do i need any additional space for anything unseen?
Hey. Thanks for the video. I have tried this a few times with different external devices, and when I restart and hold option, the install DVD shows up, but when I click on it I just get stuck on a screen with the Apple logo for ages. Any ideas?
Took me about 50min to 1hr to do it!!! Thank you fucking so much!!! You're video it is so simple and well explained. Just quick tip for all those who just install it and are asking where is the app store, you need to check the softwares updates and bingo!!
It's 3:32 AM and the first thing I'm doing on SNOW LEOPARD!!!!!!!! is commenting on this very video to say... OMFG it worked and I love you.... no idea who you are... but I love you. no homo.
Just a few answers:
-All of your files will REMAIN (safe and sound and show up as soon as installation has completed)
-You can use an ipod, works flawlessly
-HOLD the option key at the white screen (not press)
-All settings, personalization and program defaults are saved and remain after installation
i have dragged the mac os x and the extrenal hard drive and when i pressed restore it said "Could not find any scan information. the source image needs to imagescanned/scanned for restore" any help please?
@undoctrinati0n Yeah, look for the drive on disk utilities the same way. Set the same volume format and erase. Drag the .dmg and the ipod respectively. To reuse the iPod after, just restore it from iTunes.
after i select my external hard drive i see the apple logo for a while then it says i need to restart and it just keeps doing that until i select my built in hard drive.. help please
Sheeet. when I bought my SanDisk the other day, the guy told me you just plug it and and do a couple of things. This vid makes it look like way more, and that frightens my easily confused mind.
This guide works well with going from Tiger 10.4 to Leopard 10.5 except (for me at least) you need to place the .dmg file not on the desktop. I placed it in documents. Also, for destination drag and drop not from the desktop icon but from the one on the left. This was the only way I got it to work.
i can't install the snow leopard. it said that 'mac os x snow leopard cannot install in this computer'. could you please tell me how to solve that problem?
When I write the .dmg to the flash, it says, "could not validate source-Resource busy?" I got the same message when I tried the partitioning method. Perplexed beyond measure. Please assist.
Hey, I have a question. How do you mount the dmg or iso to a usb formatted as ntfs? The reason I need to do this is because I want to boot snow leopard in windows 7 so i could install the compatibility drivers. I dont have the mac os x disk or legit snow leopard disk.
Im trying to use ntfs-3g but it doesnt seem to mount. the destination is set to the usb but when i click restore, the destination is gone.
You don't even know the love I have for you <3 YOU have got your 200th like, and well FUCKING deserved it is :D TYSM you homo-chicken. Just one thing, can I do the same thing with Lion, assuming that I am now in Snow leopard (Originally Leopard 10.5)? And why is there an Angry birds update in the app store D: HELP!
IT WILL ERASE FILES ON "EXTERNAL H. DRIVE" BUT FILES ON MACS HARD DRIVE ARE SAFE..... use a usb or external drive that is clean or you don't have any important files
Alright, well it DID work... but unlike his response to another comment, YES, it DOES delete your External Hard Drive. So make sure you copy anything important somewhere safe first.
It did mine... which scared the FUCK out of me when I couldn't connect to any software updates rendering my computer useless, buuuuut it finally connected and is working. BUT! It most likely WILL delete time machine backups
I am holding down the option key when the computer is starting up but it is not showing the external hard drive as an option on this screen, only the computer's hard drive. Help please?
all done but the problem is that when i restart the system and keep pressing the option key only the mac hard drive is showing doesn't show the external hard drive.
@headautomatica88 geeze. For anyone else looking at this there were two other comments that for some reason you can't see, but to you- I wasn't trying to be rude. Sorry. I was just saying. My external hard drive WAS erased and I followed the same directions that you gave. Yes, I still was able to download Snow Leopard, but it deleted everything on my ex hard drive and replaced it with The Snow Leopard installer.
Hi, Ive got a macbook pro running windows 7, I want to erase windows 7 and put on snow leopard, i have downloaded (you-torrent) the snow leopard .dmg file and now would like to know what to do and how to do it? i assume ill be booting from a flash/thumb drive or external hard drive, so do i just put the .dmg file on the flash/thumb drive or external hard drive, make it bootable, plug it into the macbook, hold down the "options" key and select to boot from usb?
After all this, can i restore my flash drive to its original functionality? And also, is there any risk of any of the files on my Leopard enabled MacBook Pro being lost? Please answer ASAP, and thanks for your help in advance!
Hey Buddy will this erase all my pics, music software that i have on my computer right now? Thats the only thing holding me back right now. Please let me know so i can proceed. Thanks
@BigPaco213 Most people get the dmg file from an online source, such as a torrent. If you have the installation disc, I would just use that and follow the directions.
When i was doing it it just mounted the dmg to my computer and then said it was in use.... everytime i do it i dose that.... and i was restoring to a 260bg external hd.....
everything came out almost perfect, but when i reboot the mac and press the "Option" key , it only appear the mac hd, the flash drive partition does not appear.. any idea?
@IsThisNameGone I have not found the answer yet, but my guess is that I do take the same proceedures, except for the part about rebooting.Instead I take my HDD out and replace it with my SSD and then plug my flash drive in and boot up, then follow the on-screen instructions. That's my guess, and once I get my SSD (In a couple of weeks), I try that.
@digitaljerm i had to change the source as it wouldn't let me erase with snow leopard on it so i restored it with another image and then i could erase it hope this helps if u haven't figured it out yet
Great tutorial, but I'm having one problem- Disk Utility is telling me it'll take 11 hours to copy the file onto my external drive. Is that normal? Any help is appreciated.
hey when i reboot my laptop and then go to my external hard drive and i click install mac os x it tells me that it cannot be installed from this volume need your help please
Instead of using a flash drive or external drive I just partitioned the HDD with a 10GB partition and used that as my install image disk. Then I went to preference, start-up and specifically choose to boot from the newly partitioned install image.
If it wasn't for this video though, I don't think I could have done it. Thank you very much.
so at the moment im downloading snow leopard onto my computer from a torrent website and i cant be bothered to go and buy a disk and my question was if u do but snow leopard on the usb does it erase all you stuff that you've had on 10.5
i tried this, and didnt work, im running tiger still on a core duo macbook, and when i put the .dmg for my snow leopard in the source part its fine, but it wont let me put my usb as destination or anything for that matter, the cdburner/dvd rom drive wont read dual layer disks and the snow leopard dmg i got is 6.13gig
I had the same thing happen to me, if headautomatica88's method did not work try this...
go to "file" and "eject *******" click on that and go back to his instructions and it will work fine, all it did was mounted the source and makes the "resource" in use. Thanks headautomatica88 for this quick tutorial...short and sweet ! just the way i like it
@kandalorian8 I had this problem. Make sure the .dmg file is not mounted in OSX. When you click on the .dmg it will mount as a drive on the desktop, just drag it to the trash to close it.
Thanks so much for this. I'm pretty novice with computers and was afraid I was going to screw up. Everything went smooth as a whistle, 10.4>10.6 no problem.
Thanks, just downloaded snow leopard through flash drive. Can you tell now how can I erase everything from USB and make it work how it was before. Thanks

If you already have stuff on your External Harddrive will it erase it when you switch to Mac OS Extended (journaled)?

Where Or How Do I get The dmg File? Do I Jst Insert My Snow Leopard Disc? Or Do I Have To download The dmg File?
BigPaco213 7 months ago
@BigPaco213 Most people get the dmg file from an online source, such as a torrent. If you have the installation disc, I would just use that and follow the directions.

I REALLY NEED YOUR INPUT! If I'm installing Snow Leopard on a fresh SSD, do I use the same procedures as in this video? Please reply!
JonnMcNally 9 months ago
@JonnMcNally i am in the same position, have you found out the answer? or can anyone help?
IsThisNameGone 8 months ago
@IsThisNameGone I have not found the answer yet, but my guess is that I do take the same proceedures, except for the part about rebooting.Instead I take my HDD out and replace it with my SSD and then plug my flash drive in and boot up, then follow the on-screen instructions. That's my guess, and once I get my SSD (In a couple of weeks), I try that.

SwagasaurHD 11 months ago
Instead of using a flash drive or external drive I just partitioned the HDD with a 10GB partition and used that as my install image disk. Then I went to preference, start-up and specifically choose to boot from the newly partitioned install image.
If it wasn't for this video though, I don't think I could have done it. Thank you very much.

so at the moment im downloading snow leopard onto my computer from a torrent website and i cant be bothered to go and buy a disk and my question was if u do but snow leopard on the usb does it erase all you stuff that you've had on 10.5
lucastradmann 11 months ago
i tried this, and didnt work, im running tiger still on a core duo macbook, and when i put the .dmg for my snow leopard in the source part its fine, but it wont let me put my usb as destination or anything for that matter, the cdburner/dvd rom drive wont read dual layer disks and the snow leopard dmg i got is 6.13gig

@headautomatica88

@headautomatica88 i unplugged it and plugged back in, still said same thing...helpp pleezzzeee
tungee95 7 months ago
@headautomatica88 Scratch that, all you have to do is restart your computer with the flash drive plugged in.

@headautomatica88 it ask me for a serial number??? where do i get it from
koyus 6 months ago
@kandalorian8 I had this problem. Make sure the .dmg file is not mounted in OSX. When you click on the .dmg it will mount as a drive on the desktop, just drag it to the trash to close it.

Thanks so much for this. I'm pretty novice with computers and was afraid I was going to screw up. Everything went smooth as a whistle, 10.4>10.6 no problem.
