Every single bank should be responsible for its own debts and contractual obligations.

By the way, I think Bush did a lot more than "nothing to help". He's no better than Clinton. His war spending frenzy shot capital into the markets while the national debt grew to historic proportions, and is one of the biggest reasons for destruction of the dollar. The bailout is just the icing on the cake.

1) Goverment spending and increased debt (Bush is more guilt of this than Clinton)
2) The sub-prime mortgage crisis (Clinton was much more responsible for this than Bush was)
3) The credit crisis - Mostly the FED, of which Obama's new Secretary of the Treasury played a major part.
4) Wall street greed.
This is NOT about the free market, nor is it about "Republicans vs. Democrats". BOTH are responsible. BOTH are corrupt.

But today businesses are more interdependent than ever. if you let the auto makers fail the ripple effect will not be recoverable. You are talking about the jobs lost by people who can not afford to be out of work for any length of time, which include third party vendor jobs of the auto industry. Huge numbers of mortgages will fail and more.

Tim Geithner is the head of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and is a member of both the Center for Global Development and Bank for International Settlements. All of the organizations are RESPONSIBLE for the crisis we are in.
It's like hiring George W. Bush to be Secretary of State to increase our standing abroad. It's the dumbest thing anyone can possibly do.
We SHOULD hire somebody from the Von Mises institute, who PREDICTED this crisis, rather somebody who helped CAUSE it.

Bush needs to to one of two things step down now...and allow Obama to step in. he will not do this. (he is busy trying to protect himself and his buddies, try to set up as many road blocks for Obama as possible, drain the treasuries 'monopoly money" so the new change Obama plans is impossible to do...just the GOP party can say see Obama was not the right choice.) And secondly Bush could be impeached but that is too late it would take more than 60 days. :(
