  • would this work great for listening to music and watching video in planes? and i know that the battery sucks im asking if the video lags while it plays and does the screen does a great job of showing pic and photos?

  • @TheRunning4life -- yes, ive been using this EEEPC900 for three years now. the battery is great... as far as im using it. if the battery is full before using it, it will last for 2 hrs. but it depends on how you use it, if its for typing jobs , about 2 and half.. im using it in playying plants vs zombies and the battery lasts for about 1 or almost 1 & half hours, music-- about less than 2 hrs, and video/movie , internet, 1 hr.. not bad with small notebook... tested and guaranteed....

  • I Hackintosh'd my Dell Mini...

  • Cool, I tried that, but it did not go too well. Some hardware did not work.

  • i've just installed windows vista ultimate on my ASUS eee pc

  • I HATE MY LINUX EEEPC... ITS A PIECE OF SHIT. sry had to let it out

  • Sorry to hear that, I can see why that would happen especially if you use it for long task. It is too small, great for quick little things that require a bigger screen than an iphone.

  • Hey if you have a windows xp disc, just download a program called "win-setup from usb", this program worked perfect for my windows sp2 disc. it copies all the xp disc files to a flash drive and makes it bootable.

  • Thank you, I really appreciate your input. That is an awesome tip. Thanks.

  • this program is compatible with SP2, SP3, vista, and windows 7. p.s. vista is not the best option for the eee pc unless it is overclocked. google it, this is the easiet way to put xp on a flash drive! i will have a vid for it soon.

  • there' s 12gb and 20gb for asus eee pc 900. now asus came out with 16gb with xp os. would this have the same problem? would this be slow as the 12gb and the 20gb? some problem with xp operating system that it would not fit on 4gb. do you this the 16gb version has only one dtive?

  • To be honest with you the 2 laptops I checked out had 2 drives. One of the laptops was advertised as a 20GB solid state, and it was actually a 4GB and a 16GB. The other was a 12GB solid state and it was really a 4GB and an 8GB. You can fit XP on the 4GB but forget about installing a bunch of programs.

I don't know if this has been corrected with the newer models. My advice is to check before you buy. Best of luck.

  • the way solid state works it can only come in powers of two. The ONLY way it could be 20GB is if it was the sum of two drives (both being of powers of two)

  • which kind of laptops do you recommend for gaming

  • @crazyape68of1998 i bet the sony vaio is the best for gaming,,,

  • cant i reformat it? Delete the partition and then install a new fresh windows XP on the 16GB?

  • Yes you can but listen to what I explain about the drives in the video since the second drive actually runs slower.

  • why does it runs slower? i want to speed up my eee pc its really slow

  • The secondary drive is slower than the first drive. I could not find any technical details to explain why this is since they sell it as a solid state drive and do not mention that it comes with 2 drives not one. I believe the newer models have one drive.

The only way I was able to really speed up the computer was to put it back the way it was which was with Windows XP on the 4GB drive since the 16GB is slower. Hope this helped.

  • ijust installed windows again and it looks a bit faster now runs my aplications great :D not fast only above normal hehehe and i wanna tell my 16 gb i think it only has one drive.

i look at the eee pc it was made for 3 countrys but its a hell of a good pc for sure!!!!

  • What kind of RAM does this have? DDR2 PC4200?

  • Yes

  • If I am buying a used asus eee 900 and I am faced with the choice of a 12GB or 20 GB, both running windows XP, which one should I buy and what kind of price should I expect? Prices are around $300.

  • You know I saw an ASUS 10" Screen that has 1 gig of ram and it has a 120 gig laptop drive not solid state. It goes for $349 at Best buy. I would recommend that since it is small and you get a big drive for windows and your files.

If you get the solid state, make sure that it only comes with one drive not 2. Hope this helped.

  • does it have a disc drive?my sister got one for xmas and she cant find one?why on earth would it not have one and why would it come with cds if there is no where to put them?any help would be much appreciated, thanks

  • No the unit does not have a CDROM Drive. You will need to get this separately and it is usually a USB CDROM Drive. It will cost you about $80 to $90. It does not come with it because there is no space.

  • use the linuyx version!

  • The purpose of this laptop is MOBILITY and content VIEWING. NOT creating content. Review it with that in mind. The laptop is great for what is was designed for. What other laptop has as many features at that price point that you can practically fit in your pocket? Geez, guys, come on! ;)

  • Great way to sum it up. Thanks.

  • You Sayed Linux wrong

  • also??

witch programe does it come with if i by it on pcworld.

  • I believe most of them now come with Linux pre-installed. Check with them before buying it.

  • I also was very disapointed in the 900 with 16gb grive. I came from a 700 that was super fast, but out of the box the 900 16gb was stumbling at every comand.I wanted to send it back but after a hour on the phone with Asus's tech line they told me the 12gb was the fix for the slow problems, the 16gb (1-16gb drive) was problems right from the get go, but it was shipped with Linux and it worked well with that o/s,put xp in it and it faulted. I got a after market 8 gb and it is faster then my 700.

  • Yes this is really what happens with this laptop when you install xp. Have you looked at the new DELL mini notebook. It looks great and it competes with the ASUS. The only problem I see with it is that you can only put 1GB of memory on it. That is all it supports.

  • ok ive had 2 models of the eee series the 701 and the 900 i found that ule find the touch buttens stiff if u click it on a 45 degree angle wich most people do because its shaped like that if u click it verticle its fine and the the hdd issue i found all u have to do is save all ur stuff to the d:/ not c:/ if u do get a eee series i highly recomend u get a 8-16gig sd card

  • very nice vid. would be better if it was a recording.

  • Thank you. If you mean an actual video, yes I regret not doing a complete video. Maybe I will do another in the future. I actually did not expect that it would have this many views. Thanks anyways.

  • Thanks for letting me know about the 2 separate SDD's. I doesn't effect me but its good to know beforehand. Now I understand why the 8gb 701/2 model is more expensive than the 16gb linux model with 1gb of ram.

  • Your welcome, I'm glad this helped. The two computers I was able to check out was the 12gig and the 20gig and they both had two hard drives in them. It is still a great small laptop to have on the go. Especially if you do not need to any programs, all you need is windows.

  • Yea I'll mainly be using it for programming, school work (office), and surfing the web. Maybe a small game or two. I'm hoping with just that on it it gives me the performance I need.

  • While it is true that you can get a laptop that can do a whole lot more for $550, the point is that you will not be able to get a laptop of comparable size at that price.

The Eee is not meant to be a primary machine, but a highly mobile device. Also, with an external DVD drive, it makes a wonderful portable player.

As to the drives - be thankful you aren't like me. I use a 4G (700 series) and a 16GB SDHC card to get the same space - however, I bet we have about the same read/write speeds...

  • Thanks for your comments. Wow you have the 700 series. Great little laptop. It sucked they put the speakers on each side of the screen. Still it was the first and was very cool when it first came out.

Glad to see you where able to hook it up to get the most out of it.

  • are you able to use the 16 gigs or whats left of the 4 gigs

  • When you purchase the machine it comes with windows on the 4gig or linux. I recommend to get the windows version. You can uses the 16gig to store your personal files, but on the 4gig you can't put many programs since you will quickly run out of room and windows will not run correctly. Definitely use the 16gig to store anything like your files, music, etc. Hope this helped.

  • ya thanks

  • not much space eh..?

i can use my other hardisk, right?

planning of buying it just for school work and such..

  • Yes not much space, the 4gig leaves you with very little room to work with. The 16gig can be used to store documents, pictures and other things but if you put the operating system on that one you will see it run like crap. It happened to us with the one of 20gig and with the 12gig which is 4gig and an 8gig.

  • thank you for letting us know about the design of the drives, i didn't know about that and i don't hear it on other videos.

  • Your welcome, the 2 that we tested had 2 drives in them. One was the 20gig Asus, which had a 4gig and a 16gig. The 16gig ran slower when we put windows on that drive, we had to put it back to the 4gig and it worked great. The other was an asus 12gig which had a 4gig and an 8gig. My advice is check the machine at the store to make sure how many drives it comes with. This might change in the future especially that they are coming out with a new Asus 10" screen model.

  • is the eee pc 900 16g actually SLOWER than the eee pc 900 20g? i just got the 16g and im not sure if i should return it for the 20g. i heard it was slower. thanks!

  • Check your computer if you are using windows xp on the asus, right click on my computer then choose manage from the menu. A window will appear choose disk management to check how many drives are in your machine. The 2 we checked had 2 separate drives and the larger one was slower. On the 20gig it comes with 16gig and a 4gig. The 16gig is slower. My advice is check it. Thanks I hope this was helpful.

  • Hey cool video but i was wondering if i should get the Asus Eee Pc 900 Xandros Linux or should i get the Asus Eee Pc 900 Windows XP.

I'm asking this because with the XP version i could install sony vegas pro 8.0 and one online game.

But with the Xandros Linux version there is a way to install unsupported software but i dont know if it will work with atleast sony vegas pro 8.0

  • I would get it with Windows XP since it will work better for you. There are many programs and utilities out there and they are all made for windows. Remember that windows holds about 80 to 90 percent of the market. So while I like linux, I would use XP on this machine. Thanks and I hope this answered your questions.

  • Ok.I have another question......So i know that it comes wit Windows XP but when your registrating the PC with XP do you need to pay something.

Like to just to own XP?

  • It comes with a fully licensed copy of Windows XP Professional. This was the case with the two that I worked on. The key for the copy of windows is found at the bottom of the asus laptop, good to know in case you need to reinstall it. Hope this answered your question.

  • thanks for the info! i think it's a good idea to save as much as possible onto sd cards instead of onto the actual laptop. that would prevent it from running too slow... wouldn't it?

  • Not really since the laptop has a 4 gig drive and a 16 gig drive, you can put all the data like pictures, documents, etc. on that 16 gig drive. You just have to make sure the 4 gig portion where windows is intalled does not get filled up.

  • ok, thanks :)
