I used to try to pick up 3XY on my radio and I lived hundreds of kilometres from Melbourne. That was when music radio stations were exciting and not the boring clones they are today.
God that was a very miserable day for me. Getting all those musicians into the room was like bloody getting cattle into a barn... they were all completely out of control and i threatened that if they didn't behave themselves, they would never come on Countdown again. That shut them up. God, it was like a bunch of school students and I was the teacher. Amazing this ad could even be completed. Thanks Ian Mason for your patience... without you, I would have gone completely mental!
I'm guessing this was a cinema advert? A bit too long for the telly. Impressive lineup of talent. It looks as though it might have been filmed at XY in King Street? Odd, considering his later involvement, that Shirl isn't there...
Who is the one dislike? Some DJ who got the graveyard shift

Is it just me...but does this level of musicianship still exist? I think that this era was amazing....before manufactured pop

Great to see this back on YT, note to all lame commercial radio stations of today - this is how you do a TVC!

It is actually Ian Mason on piano who also composed and produced the music. It was filmed in Armstrong Audio Video (AAV)

Funny how music on 3XY sounded better than EON FM. Does anyone remember the Music TV show WROK on channel 10 in 1982?

There's footage of WROCK on YouTube... just do a search on the Sunnyboys.
