  • Am I the only one that loves this version more then the remix?

  • @GurleyPlaysGuitar No you're not

  • @GurleyPlaysGuitar I love this one when I just want to relax and chill the fuck out. I like the remix when I wanna move around.

  • this is a perfect example of how 90s were the peak of originality, this song is about pussy and if you listen carefully you can tell unlike rappers today who are so direct de la came with an indirect flow, i can dig it

  • CAN EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT FUCKING SHITTY DRAKE AND LIL WAYNE AND JUST APPRECIATE THE FUCKING ROOTS HERE. CHRIST.

  • best song. ever.

  • prince paul is that dude

  • I love this version!!!! It's so smooth and it totally captures the culture of the core members Native Tongue posse. It's playful and everything you would expect. I also love the sample!

  • I used to BBoy to this back in the late 90's on the street with some linoleum

  • im so glad that you're not a fuddy-duddy

  • i miss old hip hop, that rely on art of rhyming not what we have today who talks about about the same thing in every single songs

  • Q-tip's absolutely the best!

  • Comment removed

  • @Cornathowen but Q-tip had a rhyme in this track ;)

  • @Wrooblas ahh my mistake

  • dude, awesome music to blaze to

  • HAHAHAH fuck both of the top commenters liers

  • i am 237 years old. i used to bump this in the delorian in 1971 and aalso in 2039.

  • straight up with polka dots

  • 2 people dont got no buddy

  • Dont mention LIL WAYNE!!!.....Hes not even worthy of being on De La Souls Comments

  • i dont fucking care how old you are if you havent noticed acts like de la, a tribe, biggie, nas those are just a few of the artist who are TIMELESS no matter what age you appreciate it unlike all this garbage like odd future or young money which is momentarily good to you youngsters

  • im 94 i listen to nothing but drake and lil wanye but this is cool too

  • @InsertNameHereSUCKS Lil Wayne is shit and Drake is decent [(he's Canadian :)] this is way better, and there's no way you're 94

  • @Jackeroo123 Are you autistic, or can you just not know what a joke is?

  • @Jackeroo123 other way around in my opinion. drake is hollow and raps about nothing. lil wayne was at least good at one point.

  • @InsertNameHereSUCKS Drake and Lil Wayne both fucking suck.

  • @AWizardWithJam it's called satire, if you passed 9th grade english you would know about it

  • @InsertNameHereSUCKS loool 94, or born in 94?

    Props if you're 94!

  • damn i hate the comments with kids who say theyre like 13 and they listen to old school music. ok ok ok we get the point. congratulations. we are all very proud for you ha

  • @gggXaaa you should be more supportive of the younger generation who are into the old school shit.

  • @nikostzort i am but the kids who constantly brag about it get annoying. actions speak louder than words. if i see 14 year old listening to de la soul or naughty by nature im gonna personally congratulate him myself.

  • This version is so much better than the remix, and the remix is a classic.

I remember when they cranked this joint on MTV unplugged.

  • @MusicVideoJudge1

  • too;

  • I always thought "buddy" = pussy? If so, they never talk about eating "buddy"?

  • @0ucantstopme0

According to Prince Paul, "buddy" means "body".. I always thought they were talking about booty. Ah well!

  • first cd i ever had. lovin it and Tip too. rap use to be good. ()OO If you know what i mean ;)

  • Damn I wish I could get this song but it's just not clicking right in my ear. it's repetitive and sleepy.

I only checked this song out because "Will.i.am" said to in the entertainment mag I just don't like it compared to the other songs on his list.. am I crazy?

  • @Gonk It's ok. It just means your wack. *shruggles*

  • @Gonk

It's not clicking cuz you're taking listening tips from Will.I.Am! Geez. Is there a "Hip Hop for Dummies" book you could be reading? Let De La be your starting point on a journey to enlightenment.

  • @Gonk focus on the bass and the bangos

  • Favorite album, favorite group

  • check the funky fly souls of mischief remix and let me know....

    /watch?v=mSrBo5h4Uqc

  • DE LA SOUL is PEACE, Love and POSITIVE VIBES . . . The best of all frequencies . . . Thank you !

  • I think the remix one is more for partying it up, this one is more for relaxing.

  • In Detroit thinking about renting a hall and throwing a dayz of wayback jam with old school classics like this with some zapp/roger, tom browne,whodini,heatwave,ojays,tempts,cameo,etc,etc......you get the point.....think it would go over well?

  • @ericbuchanan yeah... i'd come for sure... and i'd bring my bud and my buddy

  • @belisariusorb well i'll make sure to keep you posted....will be happening for sure

  • @ericbuchanan To be honest, I'm not really likely to come as I live in Europe... but thanks anyway.

  • prince paul kinda looks like kid cudi nowa days

  • Back to the High School days -- I bought this originally on tape but have bought it a couple of times on CD -- but lose it -- lol, wonder if it is at the big National record stores or if I should buy it online

  • @whereruyeezy i don't give a fuck how old you are just shut up and enjoy the music. sorry im just sorry of all these comments of people goin im 12 and i like this stuff

  • @whereruyeezy no one gives a funk how old you are and your reasons for.

  • @beatrockas Thank You. Artists aren't just writing music just for their age group, or time period. Music is meant for every age group, every time period. It all depends on you react to it.

  • @whereruyeezy: Good for you, young man. I was eleven when this album came out and it was one of those things you couldn't stop listen to if you tried.

  • @whereruyeezy Good stuff man keep educated on real hip hop like this and you'll turn out ahead of most of these mainstream cats

  • @whereruyeezy like wise, im 14 and i don't even Know whi lil wayne is. this is timeless hip-hop and rap, even with the orgasms.

  • Hello.

  • de la soul was da shiz

  • Wish hip hop had headed in the Native Tongues direction.

  • Native Tongues yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Mega chill fuck all the remixs, original is the word

  • say what? say what?? say what???

  • What happened to the black hippie movement? There has to be kids out there of a similar mindset making music. I'm sick of the materialism in hip-hop. How many times do the cristal poppers have to say the same thing before it gets whack?

  • @zcomecuca It might not be the same thing, but I think the Hip Hop Congress is a good place to start for making more happen (look it up, it's a non-profit organization).

  • U have the other version?

  • "...soft like silly putty." gotta love it, such a classic jam.

  • u ucud tell wen music 0is gud cuz im only 13 nd i luv dis song

  • Tho, I like De la Soul's song "Buddy", this is my 1st time hearin' da o.g. version of tha cut. I'm more familier wit da Native Tongue Decision verison wit Monie Love, Queen Latifah & Phife Dawg in it. :-)

  • exactly!

but this is equally s good

  • as*

  • I agree with everyone. This version is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy betta than the remix.

  • you know what, it really is...

Red Alert blasted this version on Fri and Sat nites, but during the day The Countdown @ 8pm garnered the remix.

I love this version though...great memories. Peace...

  • So much better than the remix/newer version. :]

  • "For the lap Jimbrowski must wear a cap

Just in case the young girl likes to clap

Ain't for the wind but before I begin

I initiate the buddy with a slap"

Funny shit and still positive at the same time!

  • This album is Hip Hop royalty! Was in Germany when it dropped. Brought it home and dudes was like...what the...but they was all over it. Just sold its 1,000,000 copy in 2007. Wow! The samples is crazy...even for now. Probably my favorite all time hip hop album.
