Remember Africans didn't have jails and capital punishment was a rare thing in Africa. In Dahomey there were only two crimes for which one could be killed. In England, there was 300.

The bottom line is, you need to study the slave trade in more detail.

The Asante defeated the British in all but the final war between the two and the Zulus handed the British one of the worse military loses in British history. Prior to colonization the Hutus and Tutsis lived together for centuries with no conflict. Second, it was a political genocide. Selling people as labor slaves was a common practice in Dahomey and Ethiopia had a form of legal servitude. But prior to British colonization, Bonny had their own laws regarding slavery. Africans enslaved other Africans before the Europeans and Arabs arrived in Africa. The Europeans and Arabs probably made it worse, but yes, the blacks started it in Africa.

The Asante defeated the British in all but the final war between the two and the Zulus handed the British one of the worse military loses in British history. Prior to colonization the Hutus and Tutsis lived together for centuries with no conflict. Second, it was a political genocide. All they had to do was appeal to fear and ego -- and of course greed. Rather than hire the economically impoverished of Europe to perform the physical labor, they'd rather enslave an entire group of people. I mean -- it makes sense when you get into the mindset of the lazy and dishonest one per cent. They made money several ways. Buy the slave cheap, sell it high. Sell its off spring (self seeing aspect of the slave). Have it labor to produce products to be sold at market. No maid to pay.

The system of slavery imposed by Africans on Africans prior to the European and Arab forms imposed on Africans were not of the same "flavor", so to speak. Africans warred with rivals over land. The winner would make slaves of the POW's. Some P.O.W's might have had at least a chance of becomming a citizen or freed at some point. Others were sold off. Those from whom Pan-Africans in the West are descended, of course, were sold to the Europeans and Americans.

I never said that the African wasn't greedy. So long as they were willing to fight over land and profit from the sale of another human being, they were operating in greed. But then again, consider the possiblities. If you were fighting to retain control over your own land, and had the ability to relieve yourself of an enemy who threatens to take it and kill your people, you betcha -- sell 'em. That's called removing a threat to survival. Surely, even you can see the logic in that.

And I do believe I said lets consider the possibilities. Neither of us have the luxury of having been there to know specifically "that". Again -- no one knew the form or function of the type of systematic slavery that would be put into play by this particular crew of European peoples.

I just choose to see that history has been so thoroughly manipulated -- usually by caucasian males among the upper crust -- that common sense and empathy must be applied.. Research of multiple sources of information must also be undertaken, considered and applied -- and less application of ego. Applying a "one-size-fits-all-occasions" approach to history -- especially that of the colonized -- is ineffective.
