  • gotta give LOL for this.. .223.. its apparently tiger hunting rifle. jesus, do some research before broadcasting.

  • "You're making me think that it might be used as a rifle where you're actually trying to aim and hit something."

WELL NO DUH. That's what people do with rifles. ANY rifle. Whether it be a Mosin-Nagant or an M16.

  • They can cry about the rifle all they want, but the gun doesn't shoot by itself.

And no one cleans their weapons at 2:30 in the morning. That's just stupid.

  • This guy is a firearms expert? So what's the point of this story? What a joke. Antigun media BS sells and folks love to villanize guns. CNN looses credibility on this story.

  • I encourage Mr Austin to go elephant hunting with this "elephant gun".

  • Thanks for the laughs... this is a joke piece... right?

  • That "Expert" is a retard

  • weak.

  • What a joke, how this guy was ever considered an EXPERT witness is hilarious.

"This is a rifle you'd use to really hit what you're aiming at!!"

    Isn't that the point....?

  • haha, well said.

  • To continue, the Galil fires a .223 Rem bullet. They call it a poodle shooter for a reason. It's not even legal to use in many states on Deer because it's that low power. This is a VARMINT gun. Coyotes are really the best target for this bullet/rifle. The cartridge is essentially very similar to the US Military/NATO 5.56x45mm cartridge and in most firearms chambered for .223 Wylde/5.56 NATO they can be interchanged. The cartridge is meant to wound, not to kill. It's a hot .22LR.

  • I guarantee you I know 100,000,000 times more about any firearm than Mr. Dan "idiot" Austin.

  • Are you stupid? Seriously? Any gun is dangerous. Austin is an idiot. This firearm is no more sophisticated than any AK clone. Because it IS AN AK CLONE.

"Elephant gun"? What the fuck? Dan Austin, if you were to use this weapon on a tiger, lion, bear, elephant, or any other large animal, you'd have the animal take it from you, shove it up your ass, and then bite your head off. CNN, you should get some new "experts". Why don't you pay me $5,000 and I'll be your expert. cont.

  • Comment removed

  • Why are they targeting this rifle in particular? A person could purchase a semi-automatic AKM with the same license you need to own that .223, and the AKM will kill someone much easier. Also, you can't hunt fucking elephants with a .223.

  • I am very offended by CNN's implied assault on my civil rights.

I take very seriously my second amendment right to own and carry military weapons.

These "journalists" should be kicked off the air.

  • i agree.

  • More to show how un-credible CNN is. What a joke. You can't even hunt a whitetail deer efficiently with a .223. I have never seen anything so stupid since I saw CNN last time. CNN is a joke and their "experts" are a joke. This idiots understanding of ballistics are laughable.

  • If we sent that boy to Africa with that to hunt elephant, he would end up as the black stuff between an elephants toes.

  • Wow.....can you say "scare tactics"? Another reason I dismiss any "news" from CNN. Shame of it is, your average CNN viewer is hanging on his every word. I lost count of the BS and outright lies in this interview.

  • So CNN gets an "expert" to validate a point of view that they already have. What a surprise. Where did they find him? To anyone with even a slight knowledge of firearms he appears to know nothing. fail.

  • To call this "expert" an idiot is an offense to all the idiots out there. Of course, it's not like we could expect an unbiased type of reporting from a leftist rag like CNN or any of the other news organizations, right?

  • I've seen bad press reports about guns, but this is the worst so far. I don't know where they got this "expert", but he obviously knows nothing about firearms. Elephants? With a .223? The media wonders why they don't have any credibility.

  • I thought this was a goof. Are you sure that isn't a Mad TV bit? SNL?

  • The gun expert isn't an expert on guns, he's an expert on BS. The Golani is assembled in the USA from parts kits. The golani is not all that sophisticated, it's basically an Israeli high grade copy of the Kalahnikov design, with minor changes in the charging handle, gas sytem, and gas piston. the .223 is NOT a cartridge for lions, tigers, bears and elephants. A 22LR also breaks the sound barrier, why is that such a big deal with this false expert?

  • This guy is a fucking idiot. Moron. That the legal system sees benefit of his expertise only underscores the stupidity of the entire legal justice system itself. Obviously the reason why CNN called him in.

  • This video, various articles, and other media like it are why the word Expert has lost all validity.

I would like Fox, CNN, the BBC, and hell even the local crop report to offer a list of credentials with their "Experts".

  • First, this rifle is not that sophisticated, and it is not an assault rifle. It's semi-auto only. And this guy is suggesting to hunt Elephants and Tigers and Lions with this thing? Yeah go ahead and try... and when you shoot one of those animals, and all the tiny round does is PISS them off and get there attention, let me know how it works out for you when they trample or rip you apart. CNN and this commentator are reeking of douche here.

  • i say we send that asshat out on to the serengetti with that rifle and have him try to shoot an elephant. Lets see if he doesn't get trampled.

  • Expert??

Sounds like mostly a bullshit slinger trying to act like he is and his information impressive.

Wait it is on CNN what else could one expect

  • Wow. Has this guy ever had any kind of training in firearms? "A weapon can not go off from simply dropping it" BULL FUCKING SHIT! A firing pin is a mechanical device a sudden shock can damage or jar that device enough to strike and fire the round. I learned that in Hunter's ED as a kid. I hate to think what kind of evidence this idiot brought to those 300 cases and shudder to think how many innocent people may be behind bars because of it.

  • I don't know what I find more offensive...the extreme amount of utterly eroneous information this so called "expert" is spewing or the complete irresponsibility of CNN for running this wihtout doing their due diligence to ensure the accuracy of their reporting.

  • 223 kills elephants? Well shit, I never got the goddamn memo. Does my 22 lr also shoot down airplanes? Does this mean all those asshole buying ten thousand dollar rifles chambered in 500 Nitro Express are wasting their money, when all they need is a good 223?

  • Fuck the communist news network. I own one of these. This guy is an idiot! An elephant? Maby my FN 5.7 can slay demons... Fucking stupid

  • This guy is an idiot. Where did he get his "knowledge", out of a book that came in a Cheerios box? When he claims that this gun should be used for big game, he shows that he has absolutely NO IDEA what he is talking about.

The only thing he MIGHT be capable of talking about knowledgeably would be a cap gun. He knows nothing about rifles.

  • This is simply more ignorance from the media and this so called "expert" who knows nothing about the gun. What is so "sophisticated" about the rifle exactly? It's based off of the AK and is probably one of the simplest guns to use. I love how they demonize the .223/5.56 caliber rounds to make them out to be some super powered tank destroying round when they are one of the smaller rifle rounds around.

  • So, since I can't clean my Galil at 2:30 in the morning, which gun should I clean?

  • Is there a direct link to CNN's video so we can comment there. That "expert" should not be allowed to talk about guns, EVER. Uneducated mouth breather who likes to hear himself talk.

  • Is this guy mentally handicapped?

  • Incredible ignorance and anti-2a bullshit in the description of the round and the rifle. Good luck with the elephant hunting, dumbass.

    no idea about the case.

  • This is so full of FAIL . What a bunch of bullshit.

This so-called expert is a fool and doesnt know what he is talking about.

    Elephants? LOL.

    Tigers?

    Whats next? T Rex?

    What an asshole.

  • This HAS to be some kind of spoof video. They just can't be serious! I guess I can excuse the news "reader" since you can't know EVERYTHING and they do report [a version of] everything.

And the "Expert"? His experience clearly came from playing video games.

  • Expert? I don't see an expert. I see 300 cases at serious risk of being overturned.

He doesn't even know the gun laws! Presumes it needs an FFL? Just assembled stateside? (Century has to provide a receiver and barrel as the rifle is not importable a'la GCA 1968 re: sporting clause).

PSI for the trigger pull? This man... this STORY is pathetic.

  • Was this an SNL skit?

  • In addition the 223 caliber is hardly sufficient to use to hunt lions and tigers. It is really not even suitable to hunt whitetail deer here in the states.

The fact that this idiot is a so called "expert" and his ignorance has been allowed to spoil over 300 trials is absurd!

  • What a couple of idiots these two are. Can the scripting and anti gun sentiment be any more obvious? These two are nothing more than two political hacks with an agenda that think everyone else is stupid enough to swallow their unfettered bullshit.

  • Sorry to make it worse, but there are actually people out there that believe the bullsh*t that these morons are spewing.

  • you HAVE to be kidding me. This is pathetic. I'm at a loss for words.

  • "this weapon is for killing people" oxymoron?

Gotta love the "experts" media seem to find...I'm sure by pure accident....

  • "A GREAT WEAPON TO KILL TIGERS AND LIONS AND BEARS..."

Come the fuck on! Elephants? Shut the fuck up.

  • Dumb and Dumber.

    .223/5.56 exit between 2200 to 3500 fps.

We have to double tap hadji to get them to stop.

People use the .223 (low power) and 5.56 (high pressure) because it is lighter to carry so you can carry more rounds.

    Remember pounds equal pain.

Please liberals get someone on the air that actually knows about guns. All guns are dangerous to someone who is careless and/or untrained.

  • the "expert" on here needs to be flogged, both these people are idiots

  • Absolutely insane. I don't know the story behind the headline but it sounds like a negligent discharge issue. Again we have ignorant half wits who think they have all the answers blaming an inanimate object for the stupidity of some human. Using this mentality why don't we blame cars for vehicular homicides? Not to mention the utter lack of knowledge these two non thinking zeros have on the subject.

  • I've heard stories of people killing bears with .223.

  • This expert is a moron, if you attempted to shoot an Elephant with a .223 You are a bigger moron than these two idiots.

  • Fucking retards, both of them. <--And that's an insult to retards everywhere.

  • if I were to spout drivel this ignorant at my job I'd be lucky if I merely got fired, if I were unlucky someone would die due to my incompetence.

  • BTW, the military trains people to shoot in about 8 hours.

.223 won't even tickle an elephant, and will only piss off a tiger.

    This article is utterly pathetic.

This "Expert" knows a bit less than my 12 year old daughter.

  • Comment removed

  • Sophisticated? Kalashnikov style weapons like this rifle are the epitome of simple.

  • I'm not aiming at an elephant with anything less than .458 WM, this is stupid.

  • I wouldn't want to go shooting elephants with anything smaller than a .45, whether that's .458 SOCOM, 454 Casull, or maybe just a good ol' magnum slug.

    Sensationalist media at its worst.

  • holy crap, this guy is full of bs... shooting elephants or bears with a .223??? that's like hunting rabbits with an airsoft gun.

  • I....I don't even know what to say to this.....Honestly...I give up on Television as a source of news....Game over.

  • Yea, ummm news caster guy. When you shoot a gun, you generally aim, and you generally try to hit something. Thats the point.

  • Once again, the media trolling machine rears its ugly (and stupid) head.

  • I like the PMAG in the picture, and the 4 inch high scope mount.

  • How does one send a rifle in pots?

  • "this is basically a weapon that kills"

holy shit, a weapon made to kill things!?

  • .......I am officially done with any media coverage that includes firearms.

  • *Facepalm*

  • the media is full of idiots.

  • wtf?!? if you big game hunt with a .223 rifle, you are fucking retarded...who made this dipshit a forensic scientist??? you can't even take down a deer with a .223.

  • @jparish62

Hate to break it to ya, but I've taken a deer with a .22mag. It's all in shot placement.

  • ok, i worded that poorly. it's difficult to take one down with a .22

the point is that the .223 round's effectiveness has been debatable.

  • Ask a soldier currently serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, or elsewhere if they have any reservations about shooting bad guy with their 5.56/.223. It has proven effective, which is why since the 1960's it has been the cartridge of choice for military, police, and civilian gun owners alike.

  • I am a Marine vet of both those wars. I was a reconnaissance man with 3/1. I never had any reservations myself of firing the weapon at Iraqi insurgents or Taliban militants, but it is the weapon you have and what you have trained on. I was stating the general consensus that has been attributed to that round. I also own a personal ar now that I am out of the military and i love it. Point of the comment is that this guy is making shit up left and right to promote an anti-gun agenda.

  • To be fair, it's a popular choice not so much for one-shot effectiveness... but for a lack of recoil. Not the magic pill this TV moron seems to make it out to be.

  • I'm not sure which is more hilarious; the "weapons-expert" making .223 sound like some sort of space age super round or the anchor who thinks that there are firearms which aren't designed for really aiming and hit something.

  • 110 one-star ratings

    bravo cnn

Its things like this that make me glad that I watch MSNBC if i need tv news. But that doesn't even matter because I get all my info from the web.

  • I was asked once "Why I owned firearms, because all they did was shoot people" and I replied "I am not sure what guns you are using but my guns shoot bullets"

  • They have no idea what they're talking about. I could go on and on about all of the mistakes that were made in this video, but there's not enough space allowed in the comment box for anyone to properly list each individual one. Does anyone in the news industry do fact checking anymore?

  • CNN, reporting emotion, not fact.

  • the first thing i thought was "is that a STANAG magwell adapter and a Pmag?"

also "This rifle is manufactured in israel and comes to this country in pots."

    also, calling the galil sophisticated.

also, making .223 remington sound powerful.

also, "it might be used as a rifle when you are trying to really aim and hit something"

also, "this is a weapon that kills"

also, killing elephants with .223 remington.

i can't say anything to make them sound dumber than what the said themselves.

  • Dear CNN,

You actually made me yell "What the heck?".

.233 Semi-Auto, compared to a 7.62x39 or 5.56 Fully Auto... I mean, we are talking bullet wounds and mutilation.

All guns should be handled with care, not one more than the other.

    Uggggggh

  • "It's an outright military assault rifle, I don't care what anybody tells me"

That's part of the problem, he doesn't care what anybody tells him, he just makes up stuff as he sees it and let the facts be damned. The other part of the problem is that thanks to the morons at CNN, there will probably be people listening to this nitwit.

  • I have a feeling this guy has never held a real gun before in his life. The shit coming out of his mouth...

All I hear is "Im ignorant"

3 pound trigger pull. Its significant. How the hell is that significant? I have a 3 pound pull on my glock! feels way better.

I had to force myself to watch this junk.

Im glad that the rating on this is one star

  • "To use this this thing you have to have some knowledge of weapons or use of weapons"

...as opposed to other guns with wood stocks and small capacity magazines. Those guns you can just play around with no firearm knowledge.

    Wow, this is an "expert"?

    FAIL

  • Is this from the Onion?

  • Wow. This guy knows NOTHING about firearms.

    FAIL

  • 1 - ALL firearms should be handled and cleaned carefully (not just scary looking ones)

2 - the Galil/Golani is based on the AK design, it is VERY simple, not a "sophisticated" system.

3 - All rifles should be used "when you're really trying to aim and hit something" Is there ever a time when you should shoot wildly without trying to hit something?

4 - "this is not a toy" - no shit, ITS A RIFLE!

  • Yeah I've got to agree with the rest of you guys, that this cnn guy has no idea about what he's talking about.

  • This truly retarded, wow.. Elephants. Word so what is a .308 used to shoot down taradactles??

  • Frick: Hey, did you hear? Dan Austin went elephant hunting in Kenya with his .223 Galil.

Frack: Really? When does he get back?

Frick: I'm not sure......but his funeral is Friday.

  • This is retarded. All bullets fire quickly. All firearms are deadly. Why is this thing any different than any other gun as far as cleaning it? This whole report is just stupid. Oh course you're going to use this rifle to shoot at something you want to hit and kill. It's a gun!

  • Dan Austin and Ryan Smith, you're fucking morons. There is no way to address all of the stupid comments you have made. WTF is your area of expertise? Your Ass? Because I have a feeling your head has spent a great deal of time there.

  • Look folks....these are not REAL American MEN! These are sniveling, quisling morons on the wrong side of our Constitution. "For this rifle to be in the hands of an average citizen..???" What kind of anti-2nd amendment statement is that?! Fuck CNN! Fuck the NWO! Molon labe!!!!!!!

  • Comes into the country in pots?

  • What a dumbfuck piece of propoganda.

Its a 50 year old design

  • Where did CNN find this flaming idiot? If you shoot a tiger with a .223, all you'll do is piss it off and it will eat you.

  • It is perfectly safe to kill tigers with a .223 (if they're chained up or in cage already)

  • Idiots...........

  • I don't usually comment on things like this, but I don't usually come across things like this. That is, complete horse hockey, fear mongering by a guy that claims to be an expert? He's an absolute idiot based on the grossly negligent inaccuracies about this rifle and .223 in general. How many hunting rifles, that happen not to be scary and black, are used every day and chambered in .223? Lucas McCain and his lever action rifle was more dangerous. This is yet another major FAIL for CNN.

  • oh my, i didnt know that rifle was good for hunting lions? wow, i have to get one or two. typical liberal assbags...

  • Take this crackhead off youtube this is NOT ACCURATE! This guy has his facts all wrong. DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM!! CNN take this shit off. Your spreading lies to the public that are not true!

  • What the fuck am I listening to? Galil sophisticated? .223 able to kill big game? A rifle you aim to hit something? Jesus fucking christ.

  • "You're making me think it might be used as a rifle you're trying to really aim and hit something"

That would be the point of all guns

  • @mrmaigo

I kill paper, Coyotes, and other varmit with my AR15, AK47, and galil

.223 cannot kill a lion a tiger or a bear let alone a elephant

  • Well it would take a while but the elephant could get an infection.

My point was the interviewer is a jackoff for even suggesting that guns are meant NOT to hit things

  • 1: You don't have to have an FFL to buy or sell one.

2: All modern cartridges break the sound barrier.

    3: .223 is a caliber, not a cartridge.

4: Elephants? Are you fucking serious?

    5: Assault rifles are full-auto.

6: Trigger pulls are measured in absolute terms, not psi.

7: No shit there was another round in the chamber...it's a semi-auto.

  • 2. well you can get sub-sonic cartridges... you just have to look for them specificly

  • This "expert" over sensationalizes everything, is misinformed or is deliberately lying.

  • Another reason to hate CNN.

  • There are so many things wrong with this "expert" I cant even start...

  • .223 for an elephant? are you fucking serious. it barely kills people and deer. this guy has his facts about as strait as the Mcdondalds arches

  • I love it when they trot out these ToysRus weapons experts. About the only he got correct was that the damn thing won't fire if it's just dropped. Galil took the best from the M-16 and AK-47 and produced this. The safety features are far better then both. This thing ain't dropping an elephant. Let's continue to scare the population with psuedo experts. LOL what an ass.

  • the average of 2,700 and 3,000 FPS isn't 3,000.

This guy is a fucking retard about math.

    ... and everything else.

A .223 for Tigers, Lions and Bears?

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAA

This guy IS a fucking retard and a troll.

  • "Gonna need an FFL to sell"

... just like any firearms dealer would have?

What is this shit, restating facts and being retards.

    : /

  • I can't see why they're paying either one of these idiots ...

"it might be used as a rifle when you're really trying to aim and hit something!" ???

    Well ... duh.

  • Did anyone else notice that aside from the gun bullshit that most laymen wouldn't get, this man missed THE SPEED OF SOUND by almost a hundred miles an hour?

  • These people were experts? He is shocked that .223 breaks the sound barrier? There are numerous BB guns that come close to or possibly even break the sound barrier. What is he thinking?

CNN: I hope you didn't have to pay this guy very much for his "expertise". Please ask for a refund. It seems apparent he has very little knowledge of firearms OR he is deliberately over-sensationalizing the entire topic.

Walmart sells rifles that fire ammunition that outperform .223 in every category! Walmart

  • This "expert" is a true bafoon. It wouldn't have surprised me if he described a barrel shroud as the "thing that goes up" (another famous Barbra Boxer video). Infintile knowledge of firearms at best. "A .223 is great for bear, lions, and tigers" ....please.... "This isn't a toy" .....so I guess citizens should only be able to own toys...not real guns?!!! I'm a cop.... LIBERAL EX-COP WHO IS ON-CALL FOR INTERVIEWS BY NOVICE CNN STAFF WHEN FIREARMS INCIDENTS OCCUR....Novice

  • I'm somewhat surprised he didn't have all of the gun's statistics written on his hand. They call an experienced person when they want an objective description sir, they call on "experts" when they want to skew the story.

  • What a maroon! He obviously doesn't care what anyone tells him, as he has no idea what he's talking about. Wow! It has a trigger guard! It must be truly powerful. About the only thing he said that is accurate is that it's not likely to go off hitting the ground. The rest. :D ---Simon

  • This guy is soo smart, he is able to describe what a rifle does. if he is an expert then im fuckin the smartist(intentional missspelling) man alive! I want a medal or something that I can wear around town that says I am smarter than this fuck!

  • I am a retired Marine and spent 11 weeks at the small arms weapons intructor course at MCB Quantico. I certify these guys as morons.

    Semper Fi,

    GySgt. DD Barton Ret.

  • I have a single-shot rifle that is chambered in .223 Remington. I assume that "forensic expert" Dan Austin would be equally terrified of my rifle since it also shoots that horrific .223 round. The sad thing is that far too many people are ignorant enough to be influenced by buffoons such as this.

  • Wow, nice "expert" what a freakin' idiot! Most rounds travel faster than the speed of sound, and an elephant is just going to laugh at a .223 unless you are an awesome shot!

Just goes to show that the people at the Communist News Network don't know jack!

  • Oh wow, a rifle you use to aim and hit something. Idiots! Just admit you are trying to promote a liberal gun ban policy and you have no intention of reporting facts. What a trash network. How far CNN has fallen!

  • This guy is a complete retard. OMG THE BULLET TRAVELS AT 3,000 FEET PER SECOND!!! WOW!!!!

  • CNN if you are paying attention to these posting, you need to fire your entire vetting department, your "expert" is clearly a pundit for, I'm guessing the Brady Campaign, or the VPC, hardly subjective reporting.

CNN you have FAILED to be a NEWS organization AGAIN, please don't become the left's Fox news, or you will continue to lose viewership due to your pandering and poor reporting.

  • Oh, Puhleeeeze.....

I have been shooting for 50 years, and a Mechanical Engineer for 30. This dip-shit "expert" is talking nonsense. That "Gee Whiz" description of muzzle velocity was really scary -ooh; the weapon is BAD!

I shoot a .223 and have tried several different rounds on paper, pins, plates, and I know about the impact energy.

My .308 is has a whole lot more punch; it is an anti-tank gun, I'm sure, from that loony's perspective

  • If Dan Austin is an Forensic expert the standards for experts are not that high.

  • A rifle too sophicasted to be cleaning in my house? What the fuck makes it anymore dangerous to clean in my house then every other firearm? The Galil is hardly sophicasted at all. Wtf, a .223 is a godamn varmint round! You can't take down elephants with that!

  • WOW!! I know whenever I use a rifle I try to aim and actually hit something. Isn't that what people call common sense gun control?

  • hell when i google "Forensic expert Dan Austin" i get 2 pages of ridicule.

  • hey CNN. just google the gun. You'll get much better info than this buffoon erroneously provides.

  • Both of these guy are booger eating morons. Of course most of the bullshit that CNN reports on about firearms is bullshit anyway. It is a Galil. Just semi auto. The difference is no different between the AR15/M16. It is based on the Valmet and the AK. The rifle is not that sophisticated. Danger Dan is a shit head. I clean my AK and AR in the house all the time. To own any weapon you have to have knowledge of firearms to use them safely. The trigger pull on this weapon is 6lbs not 3lbs fuck wad!

  • After listening to this supposed firearms expert, it's no wonder CNN's rating keep falling.

How about you put a little effort into finding someone who is actually an expert, and not someone who thinks only the police are "professional" enough for this kind of rifle.

  • Oh.... My.... God.... What a cock holder speaking outta his ass this is!

  • The fact is, it doesn't mater what kind of rifle it is. There a many many magazine fed rifles. I can't believe CNN gets away with this blatant FUD.

  • I would LOVE to see this idiot stand up in front of a lion or an elephant with a .223! He is an idiot! The .223 is a horrible round, underpowered as a military round, and is considered to be a "varmint" round. Best for shooting ground hogs, crows, and other light game! He is a complete tool!

  • Wow. The misinformation in this video is incredible !!!! CNN - you can do better than this can't you? The majority of this video isn't even factual let alone accurate.

Whoever the talking clown is, hopefully this video is used to free the people he testified against in court, because if the jury used this guy's "expertise" then I have a bridge in NYC to sell them.

  • omg CNN sucks, this dude have no idea what he is talking about

  • Average person watching this tripe will see the big, black scary gun and feel fear? CNN working hard to destroy America's Bill of Rights.

  • Lol---The bullet travels faster than the speed of sound, "HIt's you before you even hear it". Yeah duh, it's a rifle cartridge.

  • Galils take Pmags? WTF?

  • LMAO@ this guy shooting elephants with a .223 what a fucking retard i will never watch CNN again

  • Thank God no one watches CNN.

  • I can't believe what I just heard.

Throwing out those velocities without comparing to grandpa's .30-06 or 8mm Mauser makes the .223 sound like it's a rhino stopper. The .223 is a joke compared to most commonly used hunting rounds.

The Galil is a sophisticated weapon? All it is is a very heavy AK.

How is it any more dangerous than any other rifle? All firearms are dangerous if handled improperly.

It was designed to be really aimed and hit something? No shit.

  • If only hunting idiots like this bozo was in any way legal. I better not say that CNN would come after me for being a RIGHT WING RADICAL... In seriousness this guy is in no way credible. Especially when he says that he doesn't care what anyone says there is NO reasonable need for a civilian to own a "Sporting RIFLE". Ever been to Camp Perry. Seems like a pretty reasonable sport to me.

  • I can't even begin to comment on the wrongs and inaccuracies being spewed by this so-called expert.

I wonder how many people his "expert" testimony has wrongfully convict.

  • The "expert" is an idiot.

Trigger pull is not "psi" it's pounds. Period.

Anyone hunting an elephant with a .223 is probably a complete idiot. The bullet is far too light for that sort of application. Most likely result is that you make the elephant mad.

  • Yeah and the galil requires no special training to use. It works like an AK. Kids use AKs. This guy is a poser.

  • I don't think he said one thing that was factual. What a fucking idiot. Pull your head out of your ass, douchebag.

  • If Dan Austin is an expert on firearms, then the average hunter or target shooter must be a firearms God. I found NOTHING in this interview that was factual. CNN has a great business plan... Stupidity Sells.

  • I didn't think that it was possible to be as stupid as these two are. I guess I did learn something today.

  • Please tell me this came from Onion News Network. Guys, they got us surrounded. Poor bastards! Keep your powder dry, stock up in ammo, attend an Appleseed event, join your local militia, and train, train, train! And yes, use your rifles as this "reporter" fears we might be using them, "try to really aim and hit something", make all your rounds count.

And DO NOT try to kill elephants with .223 unless you are looking for an adventurous way to die.

  • Oh, and the reporter is even more of an idiot. The reporter needs to educate himself and the "expert" needs to be mocked and shunned.

Kills tigers, lions, and bears! Oh, my! 3 lb trigger pull is heavy? Advanced weaponry? Needs training to use it? Assault rifle? This guy is a lying POS with an anti-gun agenda.

.223 is considered UNDERPOWERED by our military. The model is EASY to use, as its based on a military rifle.

  • This guy is such an idiot. He emphasizes the speed of the bullet over distance to make it sound scary.....oooo supersonic bullets. So is a .22 short. I couldn't last past 2 minutes of this crap. If anyone was convicted by this idiots testimony, please appeal. All he did was take CNN talking points and regurgitate them.

  • Dan, have fun using these to kill elephants.

  • "It's an outright military assault weapon, I don't care what anybody tells me."

So I guess they sell it with a full-auto switch? I guess he really doesn't care what anyone tells him -- he's completely impervious to facts.

  • OMG! This is Cliff Clavin from Cheers! Listen to him; Boston-area accent, know-nothing blowhard who emphatically states his ignorance now we know Cliff's new job ("firearms expert" my ass). Please tell us again how "the cartridge that comes out of it is .223" and that bullets exit its muzzle up to 3700 feet per second (since when the Hell can any .223 Remington or 5.56x45mm cartridge launch a bullet (of any weight) at 3700fps?!?). What an idiot! This guy is so stupid he's comical.

  • @danielshawn83705

Actually, top muzzle velocity for .223 is closer to 3500fps (according to my reloading book).

But this guy is clearly an idiot. Anyone on the other side of a court appearance by this clown could easily impeach him by playing this video and then producing testimony by safari hunters regarding what kind of firearms they really use. Hopefully, he'd be out of a job for life.

  • The gun-grabbers are demonizing a lower powered round (5.56) so that higher powered rounds will be that much easier to restrict.

This is the way the Prograzi (Progressive) operates.

News flash CNN: The Declaration of Independence & the 2nd Amendment expressly states our natural, inalienable rights of self-protection from the yolk of a tyrannical Govt. Bolt-actions & muzzleloaders would not cut it in this respect.

FYI_the 1st militia member was Ben Franklin.

  • What an idiot...but why state the obvious?

  • How does this guy claim to be a Weapons Expert? Did he find a fake tatto in a Cracker Jack Box that claimed it?

  • If I was the lawyer for anyone convicted on this cretins testimony, I would use this video as evidence in asking for a new trial.

  • Now I want one of these.

  • *Facepalm* They actually AIRED this???

The .223 is barely a deer hunting round. Not something you would take on safari, except maybe for small game. Not too bad for prairie dogs here in the U.S. I hear.

Characterizing it as a dangerous military assault style weapon is sensationalizing at best.

Oooh kids, be terrified. It looks scary.

Be smart, be safe, watch your muzzle, and don't watch CNN.

  • What a f-kin idiot this guy is. It's a d a m n .223 - BARELY bigger than a .22 KILL ELEPHANTS? Tigers? you'll just piss them off with a .223!

    Idiots.
