just wanted to comment that the upgrade disc can do a clean install, but you have to restart the mac and boot into the disc. I don't believe it displays the clean install option if you just launch the installer from inside os x. And you can install this if you have tiger, apple has said that the disc doesn't check to see what version of the os your running, you just have to do the clean install rather than the upgrade.
Hey Dave great videos... i just bought the snow leopard upgrade dvd for my macbook the other day and it is installed on mine, my girlfriends and my uncles macbooks with no problems what so ever and this was done with the single upgrade dvd just like yours not the family pack so yes one can be used for many, we all used the same iwork dvd as well
i find it interesting that you were so keen to upgrade your os to a brand new one. i'd never do that with windows - that's how i managed to keep xp and avoid vista. seems crazy to jump so soon and effectively pay to beta test it. maybe apple is different this way, but how?
OS X is a more gradual upgrade rather than a massive shed load of changes all at once because they update it more regularly. Although with Snow Leopard they've done a lot of "under the hood" changes, tweeks and optimisations, so you actually get more speed and performance from your current system running the same apps you ran on the older version. Also with this version when things are written to take advantage of the new tech in it we'll see MUCH higher performance increases pretty soon.
Excellent video Dave, I must admit after installing Snow Leopard and doing a few tests I am really happy with the upgrade especially considering the price. All the best mate and take care
Those disks can be used on as many machines as you like, its just the license, but if your not to worried about breaking the silly little rules, do it.
Its like the family pack, its silly buying it, unless you go by all the silly rules xD
Dont feel too bad. Most core 2 duo's can't really take too much advantage of the open cl or grand central dispatch features. Well, ok, correction, they can, but as it is Mac Pro's and future Core i7 Mac's will notice much more sizable performance gains than those of us on the current crop of consumer based intel machines. Really all your missing on a day to day user basis is a few new UI refinements, which although are great to have, aren't going to make you much more productive.
Don't get me wrong, they've done great work here in making a super fast and slim downed NEW Leopard but most of the new technologies under the hood are not going to become essential until later in the game. 10.6 is a refinement OS, With 10.7 we'll have a new Feature based OS and then we'll see the new OS X technologies introduced in Snow Leopard really come into play. So Power PC is not dead and gone just yet. Just my humble view though.
i just installed it, you know what is annoying. When you press play/pause it launches itunes everytime. I tried everything. Lack may be you can help me. good video btw.
yes u have to buy the family pack, but u can install the same disc in your other computer's

macs are not expensive
muk546 2 years ago 3
maybe in your country, the exchange rate kills me here, and still, they ARE pretty expensive even for americans, 2000$ is not that cheap.
VitDavide17 2 years ago
ACTUALLY! ;
Macs are more expensive than PCs.
If you want the same specs in a mac and a PC you'll find that the PC is cheaper.
(NOTE: I did not say better, because mac DO have much better quality and a longer life time in most cases.)
