Besides the three exceptional front men, got to give props to Floyd Sneed, one of the best innovative rock drummers of the 70s! His powerful style is a BIG part of what makes TDN legitimate rockers!
The One Song on this LP "HEAVY CHURCH" for some reason did not make it as big as a hit as it should have been, I bought this LP for that song. Most bought this LP for the hit "JOY TO THE WORLD"
And still I have to ask....WHY AREN"T THEY IN THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME??? Just on their vocal harmonies alone....not to mention the star quality of their looks, combined talent of the entire group...I still listen to Three Dog Night when I am driving ( I take my favourite songs & make my own cd's)

It's funny. I allways remember what I was doing one time I heard this song on the radio, I was comming home back from school on my 68 Barracuda one night around 1970 or 71. I still have the Barracuda and I still love this song and the LP.
My first album ever,God what wonderful memories,,me and my late B.F. T-Bear just hangin out wonderin what we were bout to get into next,as the old turn-table was runnin down Naturally...RIP my friend
What a time to be 19 years old and play the Three Dog on your 8 track. I feel the same about this song; I miss it and glad it's over at the same time.
Love this song-haven't heard it for ages. When I saw them circa 1969, Floyd did a drum solo bare-handed - no sticks! Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)
They were my favorite band in 70-71 timeframe. Live at the Forum was the first live album I ever had (I was 10 at the time). Still remember listening to that, Golden Biscuits and my 45s of Liar, Mama Told Me and Celebrate. On one of the album covers either Cory or Chuck was wearing white pants and shirt with black boots and belt - I went to Robert Halls, got some white jeans, started dressing like that in the 5th grade. Nowadays I realize what a great band they were - back then it was the vocals
@slm1963 i totally agree, two of the most influential bassist & drummer in the world who till this day are underrated...as i stated before in one of my comments, [bassplayers & drummers never get divorce]..Mr. Joe Schermie (RIP) & Mr. Floyd Sneed were & still be in my thoughts the BEST tag-team musicians that always & 4EVER played in the "POCKET"!..God Blessed them both!
Try to find a rhythm section like that today....Nickelback? Jonas Brothers? I think not! I've been a professional bassist for over 25 years....Joe was a HUGE influence!!! Floyd could do things that made him sound like two drummers. Joe was so gifted....but a tragic story of excess. Glad to hear others still recognize their contribution!!!!
Thank you for listening! My piano thanks you, too. I have the album, but not what I need to transfer the recording. If Santa brings me what I need, be glad to share.
You can get a USB turntable that comes with software that allows you to convert vinyl and with a $10 cable also cassettes for about $100. I have one and use it frequently. You see I'm a dinosaur and I have lots of vinyl and cassettes!
I passed much of vinyls along, dumb thing to do. Still have a few. Guess I'll just have to break down and get technologically correct. (I couldn't keep a cassette for anything. They kept getting eaten. Kudos.)
Hey Martha, I love your piano recitals. I love how your piano sounds like a ragtime upright from the days of the wild west. It could be the recording but it sounds cool! Sorry I don't have the album anymore. This was a one off that I grabbed from I -Tunes.....Rick
Mlonster drummer with impeccable chops, the one and only Floyd Sneed...the human metronome...loved this song and the follow up "Out In The Country" written by the diminutive and irrepressibly charming songsmith Paul Williams.
We agree. I would also add that the three singers were able to harmonize amazingly well and play off each others vocal strengths. Too bad that Negron and Sneed beaved themselves out of the bands good graces or this would be a rare 60's-70's band that was still touring and was composed of over half of its original members.
Perhaps you could share how Sneed got "screwed" and who did the screwing. Lastly, please reveal the source of your information as my info is clearly in contrast to what you have heard.
You answer a questions with questions? I've read stories about the band's history on the net (sorry, it was so long ago, I won't be able to source it for you) that detailed the recurring drug lapses of Chuck and the attitude problems of Sneed. Now, it's pretty easy to confirm that Chuck was a drug fiend, and far less so to confirm that Floyd had attitude problems, but that is what I read in more than one place. Now, would you be so kind as to offer some details of your story and the source?
Deatails, details, details!!!!! I would place what Chuck Negron says with a grain a salt due to his frequent drug induced stupors, but Sneed's testimony I would find compelling. Where did you read it and what exactly did he say? Thanks.
Well, if that's true, Cory Wells should have his ass kicked repeatedly. What a prick. None of that appears on the internet, so I'll take your word for it.
You're gonna love this! I gotta reply back from a surrogate of Floyd Sneed after I sent him an e-mail to clear up this whole matter. Here's the highlight... "As with any members in families, some will go different directions. Chuck and Floyd have done that. Chuck has his own band, and Floyd not only has his own band but his painting that he enjoys, too ... However, whenever scheduling permits and Three Dog Night are in town, Floyd often joins his former bandmates and sits in on a song or two."
MORE from Sneed's surrogate: "Actually, the last time Floyd sat in with Three Dog Night, he was visiting friends in a whole different city. So, it's difficult to say where or when he might sit in with the band. As I noted before, it really just depends on scheduling, and whether they are in the same area at the same time.
However, Floyd is taking it easy at home these days as he recovers from recent surgery, so just keep checking his website for any future show information for his band."
Cory started out his music career singing doo-wop with his BLACK friends from high school. To say that he never wanted Sneed in the group because he is black is ludicrous.
First of all, don't let my age fool you....For all we know, Chuck could be lying about Cory being racist.....Call me naive, but why would Cory (born Emil Lowendowski) form a interracial singing group, while in the Air Force, if he didn't like black people. Not to mention the fact that he also was a HUGE fan of R&B music. So he dislikes the people, but LOVES their style of music? Seems to me like you bought into Negron's bullshit, son.
Cory must be your favorite.I will say he is also very talentedbut the fact is he and Danny were LIVID when all the songs chuck sang lead on went to no.1.you oughyt to give Chuck's book a chance and then form an opinon.
Chuck only had one number one song with the group: Joy to the World! Cory sang lead on Mama Told Me Not To Come...that went to number one. Black and White went to number one....and the lead on that was Danny. Each singer had a chance at having a number one single. Chuck did sing on some of the big hits, but so did Cory. Get your information straight and then we can discuss music.
They were pissed at Chuck because drugs were taking over his life. Danny and Cory aren't innocent though, either. They (Danny, Cory, Chuck and the rest of the band) are the only people that know what happened during those years, during their time together as a band.
don't listen to this guy.......Even though Sneed isn't in the band, whenever they come to the town Sneed resides in (probably Canada) he sits in with them for a few songs. How do I know this? From someone's comment on another Three Dog Night video.
Sneed lives in America's southwest (Arizona or Nevada, as I recall) and he paints professionally. Also, I have no reason not to listen to this guy as he is currently answering all of Floyd Sneed's e-mails. If you have have a compelling reason for me and others to disregard everything he says, please make your case.
well, I'll admit when I'm wrong.....but I don't if I'm wrong quite yet....maybe we should just drop the politics, get in the groove and listen to some damn good music.
I think it's probably because they didn't write their own music, but rather were great vocal talents &session musicians who knew how, with great producer, to put a song together. Production values were always high, & this keyboard opening is just one of many memorable openings. It's really interesting to see the YouTube videos of them performing with that orchestra, plus those signaure openings like the syncopated guitar riff on "Out in the Country"
My favorite Three Dog Night albums are "Naturally", "Harmony" and "Live at the Forum. Incredible band, incredible singers.
