There's a hundred-thousand streets in this city. You don't need to know the route. You give me a time and a place, I give you a five minute window. movie is good but i hate Ryan Gosling because i am not into his movies but i am into this movie but i didn't not like to match of his movies i think the notebook was crap and i hate him and his movies but this one is pretty good blood and gore i think he's good on this movie so in my opinion
Drive was only nominated for Best Sound Editing. If the Academy is going to give it that nomination then you have to include Best Sound with it. And no Best Picture? They now nominate 10 movies instead of 5 so you would think Drive gets in the group of 10. And where was Best Actor for Ryan Gosling? Wouldve been a long shot to win but still deserves a nominee. Drive also deserved a Best Score nominee, the soundtrack is great.
@Loyalty1269 Theres always one dickhead who likes to be the first at everything. In this case disliker no# 1 has identified himself as the first loser. Everybody clap for the "toughguy"
A MODERN DAY CLASSIC. LIKE ALL CLASSICS IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR WORD TO GET ABOUT, BUT WITH WORD OF MOUTH IT WILL. BLOWN AWAY. WHAT A EPIC. FILM AND SOUNDTRACK AS ONE. ENJOY I DID.
This seems to be an early version of the opening credits. The movie has a different color grading and the credit for music is different from the final version.
@Eugen2 Exactly. The music is not high-pitched here, and Angelo Badalamenti is only a placeholder name (as Cliff Martinez explained it to the L.A. Times)
I listen to this song in the car and try to act cool like this haha all I need is a bad ass car and a scorpion like jacket!.. Oh yeah and act chill like ryan gosling
@jewelfewel: I like to listen to this song when driving as well. And sitting down reading. And eating. And in the shower. And...well, this song makes doing anything even more awesome!
@Sotnas uhm look on rotten tomatoes, they gave all of the nominations that daniel radcliff announced and its up for best picture...check if u dnt believe me but its there.
Drive wasn't snubbed from the oscars idk why everyone is saying tht...its up for best picture and best editing...thts good so idk wat everyones talking about...
How was this set in the 80's with those new cars like the chrysler 3000 and the mustang he was in during a chase? Someone explainn is it actually set in the 80's or does it just remind people of tht time
@TheTainaShow It's not set in the 80's. Albert Brooks' character even says something like: "I use to make movies in the 80's. Critics said they were very European; I thought they were shit."
@fredisaking Lol dude there is genre called neo noir which this film heavily portrays plus those neon signs were very common in the 80s. GTA didnt invent it do some research before posting some random shit lol.
Wow that white Micheal Jackson thriller jacket is so cool and intimidating. And Gosh! That sweet yellow scorpion on the back just brings it up to "Scary as fuck" level on the bad ass meter. Talk about a really cool jacket. If only people wore jackets like this in real life, no one would ever mess with them!
Once the opening came up and the song started playing, I was sold on this movie. I love 80s-style music. I also must mention Ryan Gosling. I'll be honest, the only film of his I had seen before Drive was Remember the Titans (which he was very good in, though it was a minor role), so I have some brushing up to do. However, his screen presence in this film is electrifying, just as much as the likes of Humphrey Bogart or Clint Eastwood. Great film!
@44excalibur Um...both Clooney and Pitt were really good in their respective films. I do not think Ides of March should have got a screenplay nomination, but I cannot fault Clooney of Pitt for Drive's snubs. I blame whoever marketed Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and whoever decided the technical nominations for editing and sound for limiting a lot of its potential. The Academy is definitely not retro biased (look at the Best Picture nominees)
@jjzgamer I said the Academy was 80's biased. Sure they like retro, as long as it's from 50 years back or more. Most of the Best Picture nominees reflect that. And Tom Hanks' movie only got in because it was 9/11-themed. Pitt and Clooney are overrated; Pitt's range is so limited that he's only good when he doesn't have to stretch, and it took him 20 years in Hollywood to finally learn how to act. Clooney is a TV actor who got really lucky that Hollywood liked him so much. The Academy sucks.
Oscars are a bunch commercial shit who only cares about how much money a movie makes, it doesn't appreciate art like this movie, damn, one of the best movies of all times in my oppinion
The reason it didn't get nominated at the Oscars is because all the voters are stuffy old people, their taste is way to conservative. That's why masterpieces like Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas didn't win best picture.
The oscars are all about "The good story".. This movie has way too much gore and violence to be appreciated byt the academy awards. It's the best movie of 2011 imo, by far. But it doesn't fit in at the oscars.
When the Dark Knight didn't get a nomination for best picture it was a travesty. When Drive didn't get one, the Oscars entirely lost their credibility.
The fact that this film got snubbed for the Oscars on so many levels really makes me paranoid that it was simply because the main antagonists were Jewish gangsters. I know it sounds crazy and anti semitic but I mean cmon. Not even Albert Brooks was nominated.
So if someone makes a film about a cruel Italian mob family it gets a ton of Oscars like the Godfather. But if someone makes a film with a Jewish antagonist it gets nothing? Looks like stereotypes will always exist.
@maskedarcstrike We all know that the Jews run the Oscars and the media. If a movie ever portrays a Jew in an unkind light, it might as well not exist to them.
@maskedarcstrike That's ironic, because Robert Evans(who ran Paramount Pictures and produced 'The Godfather') once said that the reason most Italian gangster films in the 60's were unsuccessful is because they were made by mostly Jewish filmakers and actors, not Italians. And I agree, Albert Brooks not getting an oscar nomination was ridiculous, as well as Ryan Gosling, screenwriter Hossein Amini, and director Nicolas Winding Refn, not to mention the movie itself getting snubbed.
@maskedarcstrike The Jews run Hollywood and that's undeniable but it's not some conspiracy by the Jews. If anything there could have been some bias against the film for that reason but that's kinds expected, it's human nature to favor your own kind.
@maskedarcstrike theres a million italian gangster movies, they aren't all oscar winners. I also hope you weren't implying The Godfather doesn't deserve its acclaim and award. Wasn't Once Upon a Time in America about jewish gangsters? It got a lot of acclaim and award nominations. It didn't get an oscar nomination, but thats because the edited version that was shown in America was shitty and the actual version the director intended was shown elsewhere.

@TB492 It's just more reason why I don't pay the Academy and their self-congratulatory Oscars show much attention. The Oscars are whatever the Academy wants them to be. The Academy is a small number of people, and collectively, they have a business agenda, one ruled by internal politics. I still don't understand why people let the Academy so heavily influence what they watch. If someone's not part of the Academy, then I don't think they should really care about the Oscars.
@TB492 oh god you couldn't be more right. It just didn't get nominated because it doesn't have a some grander social meaning, but in terms of execution I haven't seen a better action movie in years. A true homage to the 80's right here people!
this movie is movie is the only reason I want a driver's license. that and...burt reynolds.
