This is just the best how-to video I've seen. I had so much fun watching it! Thank you by the way. Also if you wanted a better insulating foam I found another video that used "Great Stuff" Foam insulating sealant and instructed on how to fill the form with it. Just in case you wanted to make another for a friend or whatever. ^^
If you try the insulating foam, that will stick to the stand and newspaper/form. Other than that, I think mine is pretty much held up by the duct tape around the neck and bottom holes that attach it to the stand.
@vintagegarbage okay thank u so much! And I'm only doing one layer of tape and one layer of paper mâché and I hope that keeps it sturdy enough. But thanks again for the help and great video btw! :D
@bornthisway171 You should be able to do the actual taping in two hours, if you have your shirt/dress ready (ie. if you have to extend the shirt with fabric like we did, do that in advance).
Learn from our mistakes; regarding my arms going numb! LOL Do the body (both layers) first, and then do the arms and neck last, for the sake of your model. Those are the areas which she'll want to have covered the least amount of time.

I read on a website that you could use a foam raglan shoulder pad if the bust needs support, and fill the dress form with fiberfill, which is intended for toys or pillows. But newspaper is definitely cheaper :P
Thanks so much for this! I've been thinking of getting a dress form, but it's a bit pricey getting a srs bznz professionally made dress form. I'm glad I found this tutorial, and I really enjoyed watching you two have fun. :)
I made one of these using the insulation foam only. It works really well if your stand doesn't go all the way through the neck, that way you can cover all of the holes besides the bottom, so it doesn't fall out. Once it is full of foam, let it set for a bit and then put the form onto the stand. The foam will harden around the stand (I used a PVC pipe and an old computer chair base) and then you're done! I hope this helped a bit, as I tried newspaper and polyfill but it wasn't very sturdy.
@ReesesDelux45 Oh mybad. I'm really not the greatest speller in the world. But your tutorial is VERY well done :D. I shall keep this video in my favorites so I can make mannequin and not have to buy one lol
Great Tutorial! Never seen this done before...its very creative! Wasn't sure how the foam thing was going go but you worked it out in the end. Thanks for your hard work.

How do attach the dress form to the stand? Thanks for the great video!
nortonatf 1 week ago
Can you show how you made the stand...I'm so glad I searched this topic on Youtube.
TheGpmdesigns 2 weeks ago
@TheGpmdesigns It's just a 2"x2" piece of wood screwed into a 2" thick, 10"x10" piece of wood. Drill two holes in the base, screw into pole.

Hi I'm doing this for an art project..how much duct tape would I probably need?? My model Is a size 0 so she's very small
bornthisway171 2 weeks ago
@bornthisway171 You will probably need at least two regular sized rolls, if you're going to do two layers (which you should).
Good luck with your art project! :)

Awesome! I am psyched to try this. Any tips on getting the dress form to stay in place on the stand?

maybe you should've sealed up the holes, just leaving one part open, before using the insulation foam.
