The sign of a good band is that no one can copy, the Killers etc. all sound like indie bands from the 80's but no one dares to copy the Smiths and the Cure because they were one off's truly orignal and excellent but you can't produce these kind of bands every year especially on X Factor but the record companys would like to try.
begbie73 ,you say youve seen them 6 times ,do you know what im talking about with the outer 3d projection lighting>>????? please i know someone has to have seen one of their shows like this atleast ,they dont do it much but they do it for special shows,,,,please comment back

one of the best LIVE bands EVER !!!!!! ive seen them 6 times and they never played less than 3 hours !!!!! and this for low prices....they play for their fans and not for money......outer space atmosphere and magic songs....remembering my youth...thx guys....ur still a great band and u will always be....keep on rocking !!!!!!!!
Awesome Mate, i've seen The Cure 3 Times and hopefully to See Them Again, My Fav Band Ever, and as you said, they don't play for money, they play for their fans.
The best 9 hrs of my life in the Best 3 Concerts Ever.
I was stuck, stuck STUCK in studying myself (like nearly 20 years ago) and all I would ever listen to was The Cure. Every single book/ calendar / diary I had was absolutely *full* of pictures of them, of Robert, lyrics or you name it. I love them dearly even today. (AND they sometimes remind me of long nights when studying just felt impossible). Good luck!
@shaneonya Not to worry,I feel just like you do about this very special one of a kind band, that can never be bested through out all eternity,I like every single song on Disintegration.Robert Smith is Genius beyond human description, for him to have the insight to know what these songs will sound like, the way the music and sounds are arranged together is truly brilliant,Ive never heard nothing the even dares to compare to The Cure.
I have been a cure fan since I was in eighth grade. I wish so bad that I could see them in concert. The closest they ever came to me was when they were in Toronto and that was 2 hrs away, I would have went but did not know they were there until that night and I had to work. I was devastated.
Well now I know why it's called the Plain Song. It's very plain. Good for putting people to sleep. I like the Cure but not too impressed with this (in case you couldn't tell).
this song is anything but 'Plain' - the title is supposed to be ironic and/or probably a reference to 'Plainsong' a type of chant or prayer sung in churches which this song is not dissimilar to with its slow rythm and dreamy melodies......but 'plain' or boring it aint!

So I listened to it again. I still don't think I'd call it a song. Sounds more like an intro or movie background music. No tempo changes, no lyrics (or was he singing very quietly?) just the same thing over and over. I kept waiting for "the song" to start. Very hypnotic, good for meditation or lulling people to sleep.
if you are more in the genre of people whose attention span cant outlast a puppys, then maybe you should go listen to the arctic monkeys or something similar.
plainsong isnt a radio hit song. it is a work of art that sets the brooding mood for the rest of the album
Thank-you very much for uploading this interesting footage!
'Plainsong' is a beautiful song. This is a good choice for a funeral song. But, I am going to have a hard time selecting one for my funeral. The songs that come into my mind are '17 Seconds', 'The Funeral Party', 'Plainsong', 'To Wish Impossible Things' and 'Bloodflowers'. Probably, it would be nice to have a medley of all those songs as well!
i want more

Robert Smith is not gay. I believe he is still with his long time love, Mary. They have been together since their early twenties.
