This is a "man-made-up" rule and has no bearing on the persons abilities. Look at all of the greats in history who had long hair. Sometimes I think many of the guys with short hair have it this way because they are simply lazy! And yes, mother does not always know what is best except for one mother, that being Mother Nature herself.
