  • @Purple3xxx LOL it's actually:

"LORD, WHO MADE THE LION AND THE LAMB,

    YOU DECREED I SHOULD BE WHAT I AM;

WOULD IT SPOIL SOME VAST ETERNAL PLAN,

IF I WERE A WEALTHY MAN?"

  • @Purple3xxx "Lord who made the lion and the lamb, You decreed I should be what I am..." (with a thick accent)

  • This show is so awesome, that my sister's first words were "dooby dooby dooby dum"

  • 9:05-9:50 = EPIC!!!!!!!!!

  • thumbs up for tevyes funky dance moves

  • I now realize that Gwen Stefani based "Rich Girl" off this song.

  • best dance ever :)

  • I love is arm wiggle dance!

  • You have to love the irony of this song.

  • I think the song "if I were a rich man"is a niggun

  • If I Were A Rich Man is my fav song of this musical! Chaim Topol nails it!

  • @JBicks18 No, I'd say more the kind of woman when her feet hit the floor in the morning her HUSBAND says "Oh crap, she's up!"

  • 8:00 the whole world just stops and listens

  • I LOVE Tzietel and Hodel in "Matchmaker", especially Tzietel's "Yente"! XD

  • "Send us the cure, we've got the sickness already." Is this another way of saying, "She's the type of woman that when her feet hit the floor in the morning, the devil shakes in fear and says, 'Crap! She's up!' "

  • at part 9:21 he,s nuts

  • @haloreachlover99 hhaha i kept replaying it its hilarious!

  • "But what have got against my horse?!" Lol!

  • This movie just reminds Me how beautiful Jewish Women really are,

  • "If i were a rich man dubibubidam"

"If I were a richie girl nananananna"

    ANYBODY NOTICE THE!!!!!!!!

  • @1purpleweirdo wow. now i know where the song comes from xD

  • @singingforsunshine haha i just realized i misspelled it! haha im not a gr8 speller... :P haha and good luck on getting tzydle! haha :)

  • The way Tzeidel says "Chava" is hilaroius! It's really hard to say it like her, go ahead - try it. I dare you.

  • 3 nazis disliked the video

  • Wow! I can not believe I saw this movie exactly 82 900 times!

  • Gwen Stefani sample Dancehall artist Lady Saw's song Rich Girl and Lady Saw sample this song from Fiddler On The Roof. It was Lady Saw's was the originator.

  • I'm doing the junoir version, and well, I play Hodel.

  • I remember I did this play when I was in fifth grade. It was really different but I did do the jounior version teveye who was the main person had the best shimmy ever it was so funny.

  • I remember I did this play when I was in fifth grade. It was really different but I did do the jounior version

  • Tevye's three older daughters are really super cute.

  • ah... what a wife tevye has, i wonder though if the jewish communties are close to each other or are far apart from each other distance like wise

  • He's handsome! He's tall! That is, from side to side.

  • I wonder if there was any lineage to King David since Chavala has the red hair and ruddy face, just like David. I know they just cast her in the part but I wonder if they had that in mind????

  • the religious aspect of this movie is a great case/example as to why judaism and christianity(traditional christianity such as orthodoxy)both love god and should accept one another into good graces

  • @baseballgreekz

Indeed. Not to mention the fact the Jesus, the founder of Christianity, was jew.

  • Topol's voice is lovely in this part.

  • :48-:50 Chava has a look like a confused dog. Lol

  • The expected role of women and girls in this community makes me cringe everytime I watch this movie, but other than that this is a truly beautiful film.

  • I always liked how Tevye and Golde talked to each other

"You can die from such a man"

"In other words send us the cure we have the sickness already"

  • The animals will never make it through one Russian Winter in that ramshackle almost open air barn!

  • I'll see my wife Golde looking like a rich man's wife with a proper double chin lol

  • "Alright, he's sixty two." LOL!

  • lol gotta love his dance moves! XD

Also, he probably wouldn't love God as much (or pray as much either) if he were wealthy. Rich people generally (I say generally, not always) don't have the same reverence for God as those that struggle to make ends meet.

  • As the Good Book says, "Heal us, O Lord, and we shall be healed." In other words, "Send us the cure-- [whispers] we've got the sickness already." -_-

I wish I delivered that line when I was playing Tevye...

  • @OTownNews "money is a curse!"

Tevym: "may god spite me with it, and may me never recover"

  • 6:44-6:50.

    i gotta tell you;

that was the best dance i've ever seen. (:

  • man. he has got that "shimmy" down!

  • So THATS where Gwen Stefani got that song from!

  • @Charlenejl i hate u

  • @bdc03 Why?

  • Lol. What have you got against my horse?

  • "i realize of course, it's no shame to be poor... but it's no great honor either. sigh..."

  • I havnt seen this movie in over 10 years and i still remember the songs :) thanks for the upload! I love this movie but I'm not religous, all religion has ever done is cause problems, when really all religons are almost the same. I just don't get it.

  • lol singing and having a seisure???

  • You got to admit Topol has the greatest voice ever when he sings. Love 'If I Were a Rich Man'!

  • Thanks for uploading this! I actually have the DVD, but no DVD player anymore!

  • It's amazing how much people can be blinded by wealth, they think that because you have money that you know everything lol

  • I really like his dance ^^

  • 9:38 I love that look when he says his famous line in the song. :)

  • "Lord who made the lion and the lamb. You decreed I should be what I am. Would it spoil some vast eternal plan? If I were a wealthy man!!" I love that part. I love the whole song and I love the matchmaker song. Actually, I love most of Fiddler on the roof songs. :)

  • the real jew are africans from ethiopia.

  • @grandscale0101 not according to D.N.A tests !

  • TOPOL IS A BEAST OF A MAN

  • I think it's beautiful that he thinks the "sweetest thing of all" would be to have more time to pray and read/discuss the Holy book. He may not be able to remember that it was Moses that was "slow of speech" but his love of and devotion to God is pure.

  • @edefyinggravity It is a great thing to yearn for God, too bad when things are comfy we tend to lose that desire. Good thing we are not saved by how smart we are too. :)

  • Anybody else notice the strings of spit in Tevye's mouth there toward the end? No? Just me?

  • "when your rich they think you realy know" LOL so true !

  • Jewish culture is one of the most beautiful and reverent cultures in existence. God bless the Jews.

  • i think tevea's dance is funny lolzzzz!!!!!!

  • Jews practice the grossest belief. It's the only religion with the word "EW" in it.

  • @Labrynthiea you are absolutly disgusting.

  • @hazyshea56 JESUS i was copying 'Family Guy' give me a break you serious politically correct people are so BORING!

  • @Labrynthiea

Saying that Jews practice the grossest belief is like saying that all of us who believe in God are practicing a "gross" belief. I don't care what show you were "copying". Show a little respect.

  • @Labrynthiea you must be the pride of your family !

  • the reason why there is hardship in the world is because we are fallen from paradise and life is a test. poverty is a blessing since it keeps you close to Allah. horses go lame because everything in this world is defective and goes lame. we age, we lose hair, our amplifiers become defective etc everything is a disappointment in this world, but in paradise everything is fulfillment. so his complaining to God about his poverty is out of ignorance. he should go to the shul and study the books

  • "Let's see what kind of mischeif I can play on my friend Tevye"

    Haha love this movie!

  • Those are some bad-ass dance moves.

  • its great

  • Ya da dee da da | Ya da da da | Ya da da da daaaah best line ever

I remember getting REALLY drunk one night and doing that dance.

Ironic how many people knew where that dance came from.

  • @ 6:45 the besttttt haha

  • The dance is awesome lol

  • now we know where Gwen Stefani got her beat for "If I was a Rich Girl" lol

  • once again i say, no one can dance quite like topol! lol!

  • hahaha hes young well hes 62. hes tall - from side to side.

  • if i where a rich man with a wife with a proper double chin. XD

  • I got the part of Tzeidle in my community play. i'm so excited to sing this song!

  • "he's handsome! he's tall! that is from side to side..."

  • Money, it's a hit

    Don't give me that

    Do goody good bullshit

    Money, it's a crime

    Share it fairly

But don't take a slice of my pie

    Money, so they say

Is the root of all evil

    Today

  • Would someone care to tell me how its possible for a staircase just to go up, and not go down too? The first time I heard this song and that line I was like, wait whaaat? lol

  • it ends at the ceiling so theres no way to go

  • If I were a rich man!. lol my science teacher is "plump" so he was chosen for this guys part in his highschool play. HE SANG IT SO WELL. We saw it on video. It was awsome.

  • 8:00 SOOOO middle eastern! not even my rabbi can do that! :D

  • hava is my FAV!!!!!!!! shes awesome

  • nobody else can pull off a dance like that, and still look normal like he does

  • I don't know about that, the Tevye in the show I'm in comes pretty darn close...

  • gwin stephani so stole this song lol

  • which songs?

    im just curiouss (:

  • @SockEater555 if i were a rich man. there is a song called if i were a rich girl. listen to it and tell me its not a knock off.

  • I wasnt trying to mock or anything. I jus twanted to know wihch one so i could compare.

  • @SockEater555 its cool

  • If i were a rich man

  • This is such an awesome song, and an awesome video. Tevye needs to take dancing lessons though. He can't always fall back on waving his fists in the air.

  • His little dance:- I can't help it, so many years since I first watched this as a kid & it still makes me giggle every time!

    Love his singing @ 8:00.

I was fortunate to see Topol perform this show at the Playhouse in Edinburgh in the 90s. Chava was played by his real daughter.

  • all the beautiful hair!!!

  • If I were a rich man

  • oooooo, his voice!

  • aw I love how the two younger ones just come in and sing with them at the end xD

  • he could be rich if he was working as a singer! :)

  • hahaha proper doublw chin ahahah

  • looove that little dance he does!

  • this is just such a classic movie and i love the song if i were a rich man

  • this movie is classic. they just dont make em like they used to =)

  • 8:00, now that is called singing

  • I love this guy.

  • Love how he says "they will ask me to advi-hiiise them..."

  • omg thanks for posting i officially love this song

  • I'm not sure which one you mean, but I agree anyway.

    :-)

  • They don't make movies like this anymore... :( Love it!!!!

  • Poor Chava, Tzeitel and Hodel always pick on her. Of the three daughters I think Chava has the hardest time

  • I also think Chava has a hard time being the middle child. She is like stuck in between. Too young for Tzeitel and Hodel and too old for Shprintze and Bielke.

  • Tevye has a way of praying to God so openly and honestly that it's both raw and reverent at the same time. The great irony is that he doesn't see that he is wealthy in his poverty. It's through his humility that his generosity becomes so clear, eventually bringing him three unusually generous and dynamic sons-in-law. Most importantly, the most important men in town do come to fawn on him--namely the men who will marry his daughters, the richest man in town, and the Russian captain.

  • @analyst12 the one Hoddell marries isn't a captain he's a scholar

  • @Lunasa94. All of Tevye's future sons-in-law are included in the "men who will marry his daughters" section. Lazar Wolf is the richest man in town, and the Russian Captain shares a mutual respect with Tevye throughout. I wasn't implying that the Russian Captain marries one of Tevye's daughters, rather that the characters who are "most important" are the ones most central to the plot either by marriage or by political unrest.

  • @analyst12 "The great irony is that he doesn't see that he is wealthy in his poverty". That is a great observation. Thank you, I shall remember that. Great life lesson in a movie. TY

  • @analyst12 Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • @analyst12 Wow, I totally agree with you. The way he talks to God is so open and honest, he talks to him the way a man might talk to his father, and he acknowledges that God also has a sense of humor :)

    God Bless!

  • x] Lolz. i love this movie so fucking much
